^^ I dislike Saw for other reasons as well. I just don't see how he can be put on the same pedestal as Myers, VOrhees, Kruegar, Leatherface, or Ghostface. They are in different league, IMO. A better league than Jigsaw, IMO.

I agree , I just found the "no story" comment rather strange.

If the lukewarm box office makes them reconsider doing a Scream 5, then I'm all for that. I agree with those who say Scream 4 should be the last. I think they've really exhausted all possible avenues as far as story goes.

The pit fall most slasher franchises fall into is they don't know when to stop. Something they very correctly point out regarding the Stab movies in Scream 4.

Too true. Although it is kind of ridiculous that this movie is the fourth one with 4 attached to it. I think that was the point though. It addressed a couple things with that.

Scream 4 did about 7 million this weekend . Bringing its total to only 31 million . This is going the same way as Kick Ass . Good feedback but doa Good News the dvd blu ray should be out sooner than later now . And a proper send off we got .

This will be the last film

^^ I wouldn't jump to conclusion that fast. However, id this is the last film, I'm satisfied. I really wish we'd get a 5th film though.

For the last time. This is not a flop. It's under-performing, sure, but it's not a flop. There was barely any advertising done for this film. So the advertising budget can't be much. Overseas it's already made 9 million past it's budget and it's still got weeks left in theaters.

Horror movies don't flop. They under-perform. It's because they are made for cheap.

^ Horror movies rarely flop. This is true. However, it is also worth mentioning that most movies people on these forums (and others) brand as "flops" are simply underperforming as well.
People are quick to yell "flop" as soon as a movie doesn't make a gajillion dollars.

So it made a little over $7 million this weekend. With a domestic total of $31 million. Worldwide $49 million.

Meh.

-sigh- I'm done with the box office drama. It's not a flop. Not a bomb. It's just underperforming. It'll be fine in the end. If Scream 5 does get greenlit. It'll just be like the Riddick sequel. I think one of the problems with the 40 million budget is they used the CGI on the damn knife blade.

Finally got to see it today and it's not a bad movie but clearly it's time to stop the Scream movies before they really get stale.

Was a bit disappointed that there were no clues for the audience as to who Ghostface was and when the big reveal I was like "that's it?", the killings were kind of tame I mean how inventive can you get with a butcher knife anyway, right?

And it probably ran 15 minutes too long, otherwise it's a good time well spent.

...........I don't think it costs THAT much to cgi a knife blade that only gets seen a split second on screen lol.

You'd be surprised. It's odd the budget is 40 million when none of the cast surely cost that much and the filming location was picked because it was cheaper than any other place.

I wouldn't call it a "bomb" but it is pretty much a box office "dud". Stop living in denial. $31 million domestic? Scream 3 made more than in its opening weekend, and it suffered more critically than this latest installment did, AND that was back in 2000 with cheaper ticket prices.

Scream 4 has the same budget as 3 and it will still not make as much money. And Scream 3 was considered somewhat of a financial failure at the time! Sorry, folks, no Scream 5, and I think it's for the better.

The series would only become what it just parodied in Scream 4...

Scream 4 has indeed underpreformed. But isn't at all a failure. Its directed at a whole new audience. Scream 3 did well because it didn't come out 10 plus years after the second. Scream was well known and had a big following. Scream 4 has been said to be sort of a start to a new trilogy. And will likely make about 70 million total. 30 million more than the budget. Along with dvd and blue ray sales, this movie will be a financial success. If they choose to make a Scream 5, if its well made, the studio would be looking at a similar profit, if not more. While it wasn't as good as the first 2, it was miles beyond the third. Here's hoping for a fifth. I know I'm not alone.

I can honestly say I blame Rio and other competition for Scream 4's box office performance. Animated movies will always dominated R-rated pictures.

I don't buy the Rio taking away from Scream 4 argument. Their target audiences are so utterly different that I doubt that Rio is responsible for Scream's performance in any way.

But was a single kid who went to see Rio going to see Scream 4 if Rio wasn't showing? The target audience for the Scream movies is teenagers and fans of the original, not kids or parents.

The parents of the kids who are seeing Rio? Mostly like were young in the 90's and watched the Scream franchise. I can guarantee unless they grew out of the horror genre. They must certainly would have went to Scream 4. There are also teenagers who will buy tickets to Rio to see Scream 4 despite the inflated price for one being in 3-D.

^^ That's true. But don't forget that parents go with their kids to see animated films as well.
