O_o to the comment the movie wasn't marketed.

Everytime I saw a commercial break there was a Scream 4 teaser. the week of realize the pop ups were all over moviefone, fandango and movietickets.com

It was a flop. And rightfully so.

Buck this movie. Hard.

Anjow, I really know you're a Scream fan, but once you kind of express the opinion you hate the movie once? Aren't any further comments kind of just trolling the people who did like the movie?

Finally got to see it today and it's not a bad movie but clearly it's time to stop the Scream movies before they really get stale.

Was a bit disappointed that there were no clues for the audience as to who Ghostface was and when the big reveal I was like "that's it?", the killings were kind of tame I mean how inventive can you get with a butcher knife anyway, right?

And it probably ran 15 minutes too long, otherwise it's a good time well spent.

Not to single you for being critical, I just wanted to say that none of the Scream films ever gave you clues for a motive of who would be the killer. The only one that had clues at all was Billy in the first, but that was because he was written to appear as an obvious red herring (as in the audience thinks it's too obvious to be him) and there was no evidence for Stu at all. None of the sequels ever provided mysteries which is kind of what prevents the Scream films from being genuine mystery stories, because audiences have to judge characters and whereabouts without ever knowing for sure the truth about most of them.

Also, Scream 4 was roughly 10-15 minutes longer than the other 3 Scream movies and I personally would hate to see a Scream movie that ran under 90 minutes. This was the right length and it's fun pace is why it is better than so many of the Saws and other torture porns that barely crack 80 minutes and are full of gratuitous violence. Scream may be long in the tooth, but it is still the best horror franchise film to be released in years, in my opinion.

Trolls will be trolls. Simple as that, and it really is annoying.

Flop means that it didn't come close to making its budget back. It's less than 10 mil for it to make it back domestically. It will come very close if not passing it domestically, and adding it international numbers, it will pass that. Then factor in later dvd sales, and it will not be close to a "flop".

Are you 12?

The movie underperformed and (likely) won't do well enough to warrant a sequel. However, it will make back its production budget domestically (it'll tap out I bet around $45-$50 million, above its $40 million price tag) and cut into its marketing budget overseas. By the time DVD/Bluray sales, which as a horror film are likely to be strong, are factored in on top of the TV rights TWC will have turned a profit. A negligible profit, but they'll be in the black.

That means it did not flop. Hard.

I know you hated this movie, but don't act ridiculous. BTW I rewatched Scream 3 for the first time in probably 8 years or something on Showtime last week. It still is a mediocre, if not completely terrible, film. Yeah, it did a nice job of completing Sidney's arc from victim to hero/bitter adult. However other than that and some nice wink-wink meta humor at Hollywood's expense, that movie was an utter failure. I find it funny if someone can love that movie so passionately despite its flaws, that they can be so bitter about its superior sequel. Thematically it did not have to do anything with Maureen Prescott, but it was a better movie. Scream 3 turned Ghostface into a slapstick character for most of the film.

So.... I'm a troll because I didn't like the film and thus have forfeited my right to post about it? That makes no sense.

You guys can kiss each other all you want rallying for another film and I can't root against one? You guys can blame marketing and remain delusional about why the film didn't perform well and I can't argue against it?

And for the record the blind love that I feel you guys have for this movie is equally as annoying.

All you have to do is say you don't like it once or twice, not 500 times. We know you don't like it, so let it be.

Also - I'd like to point out in a Twitter trend right now - #DissapointingFilms is a trending topic: One of the top Retweets: Scream 4.

Scroll down... Scream 4 pops up several times.

I'm sorry, I know you guys all see something in this movie that apparently the rest of us don't and while you may be a majority on this forum... in the general theater going public... you're the minority. I'm not trying to be a d*ck. I'm just saying... the rest of us didn't think so much of it.

Its a flop and I loved the movie. It just didnt live up to expectations. Sure the budget was 40 million but what you dont see is advertising cost in u.s and overseas as well as flying in critics and put them in hotels for the day to interview the stars, stuff like that. This is by no means a Gigli or Pluto Nash bomb but its bomb and dead on its second weekend simply by bad word of mouth. I mean the audience was laughing in the theater when Jill was beating herself up at the end and and the crimescene at sids book signing. Just one of the rare occasions where the GA gets there message across that there done with a certain franchise. Noone really factors in DVD and Bluray sales when movies hit home, they just dont, they only remember what a movie did in theaters. Do any of us really know what Titanic did when it hit home on vhs in 1997?

Really? I can go to the Tumblr and Twitter hash tag and actually find MORE people who actually enjoyed the movie than people that were disappointed by it, but nice try though. I'll even take screen caps if necessary, but ultimately I feel that's very silly.

At this point you are just trolling, and bringing down the mood of the thread. I have nothing against you leading up to this you posted some quality discussion in the thread, but if you can't really add anything productive or positive to the thread why post in it?

Austin Powers got count them TWO sequels, because of DVD sales. Family Guy and Futurama returned to TV after being cancelled because of DVD sales. DVD sales of Firefly are the reason the Serenity movie exists.

My thoughts exactly.

And I know you guys DID like it. Why don't the rest of you stop posting as well? Why doesn't the thread just die with the dwindling people who stop in real quick? I have every right to come in here and argue for the cause for there not to be another film. I mean, Marxx even cited "let's see how next weeks box office results show". A lot of you did - assuming there was going to be a word of mouth buzz that would push this movie into glorious success. And so.... not so much. Didn't happen. Granted, I'm gloating, but still - I have every right to come in and defend my viewpoint as any other. It's not like I showed up at random and started hating on the movie. I was here long before it came out. Long before it was official. All through production. I love this franchise. I was bitterly reading negative reviews of the film and blindly defending it to myself saying "These critics don't know jack ish."

I'm sorry my different and (currently being proven correctly) viewpoint of the film is being backed by general audiences.

^^ The majority of people who saw the movie liked it. So, overall, you're not 100% right. You're trolling now, man.

Also, who says you can't state your opinion? As I said, state it once or twice, but you kept doing it so it's considered trolling.

Again, "flop" and "underperforming" are two different things. It's already made three quarters of its budget back, and made it back fully if you count in worldwide sales already. That is not "dead" either. It will still have several weeks left in the theaters to make even more. And if you think that dvd sales don't factor anything in, then you're very mistaken. There have been many times over the years that films got sequels or considered successes due to those, because yes, those are a part of how the film is sold, and they clearly bring in money to the studios for it, so yes, they do look at how lucrative those are in wanting to invest in possibly making more of it.

Burlesque flopped hard and is a laughing stock in the film community, but it's already made 20 million in DVD and Blu-Ray sales alone. You don't think the studio appreciates **** like that?

Also, who says you can't state your opinion? As I said, state it once or twice, but you kept doing it so it's considered trolling.

I can understand the disappointment (I loathed Wolverine when I saw it), but at least temper it with respect. Jow, bud, we get that you don't like Scream 4 -- but please don't troll. I don't want to see you banned.

And the fans that will wait for DVD/Blu for Scream 4 will see it on DVD via Redbox or something. I think it might have a bigger following on video.

The Facebook page for the movie has an astounding number of people who still haven't seen it according to the polls they've done. I'm thinking it will either see a random burst in theater attendance here or there or many people are legit waiting for the DVD.

What Marvelman is trying to say is, it doesn't cost $20 bucks to market a movie. Hell, sometimes a marketing budget for a film is bigger than the production cost. Now, while I don't think the cost of a couple of critics in a hotel room for a weekend really affects the overall over/under of the film.... the marketing does.

And as far as DVD goes... this is gonna be one of those movies that comes out for like $25 on DVD and $39 on blu and never go on sale just because they're trying to recoup costs as much as possible.

OR - they'll add a crap ton of Bonus features to the originals and then *only* sell a 4 piece box set and jack up the price.

- Jow

Where the hell do you live that a DVD is 25 bucks and a Blu Ray is 39 dollars?

Connecticut - the Best Buys around here are quite pricey for films that flo... i mean... "underperform."

There was some subtle hints for Mrs. Loomis. When you look back through the movie you see some hints to her peppered throughout it. Like Debbie Salt saying "It seems to me if the killer is repeating what happened in Woodsboro, then it's possible the killer could be from Woodsboro".

The Stab clip they show with Tori Spelling and Luke Wilson as Sid and Billy is of the scene where Billy tells Sid he had to accept that his mom abandoned him and his dad.

Finally you have Randy and Dewey discussing possible suspects, and Randy saying female killers are perfect because it's sort of against the rules but not really, and cites Mrs Voorhees, a serial killer mom out to avenge her dead son, as being a terrific killer.

It's only when Mrs. Loomis is revealed these little hints become more apparent.

Yeah, I've never seen a 25 dollar new release DVD in a Best Buy. I see 19.99 for DVD and 29.99 for Blu Ray though. Plus there are places other than Best Buy to buy movies you know. :p
