Scream 4!!!!! - Part 4

Yeah, but Ghostface is more believeable, lol.

No, he's not. Almost all his kills rely on everything going perfectly to plan What if Casey's parents came home 30 seconds earlier? What if Tatum ran out the house door in the garage when she knocked GF down instead of the garage cat door (or she could have easily fit through it) and warned everyone, including Sid, there was a killer in the house? What if someone was i the school and heard him stab Henry Winkler and call the police? What if more sorority girls came to stay with CiCi? What if the front door to that sorority house was locked and alarmed before she sneaked in? What if Randy hadn't stood right next to the van but went back into the middle of the quad while mocking Billy? She couldn't have done jack ****.

There are serial killers in the world, but slasher killers as elaborate as GF....not so much. Crackpots dressing up like superheroes sadly do exist. They're novelties of ridicule in the news. And the first act deals (hilariously) with the reality of the situation where he gets stabbed in the stomach and run over by a car on his first outing.

And at the end of the day who cares if it's realistic if its great storytelling? I mean you love the Raimi Spidey movies and those aren't exactly what we call dramatic humanism. Silence of the Lambs the Scream films are not. But they'r enjoyable.

BTW if we're arguing scariness...is anyone really scared by Scream 4 or really most slashers? The conventions are so well known the most it can do is make you jump. I don't think there was a scary moment in Scream 4, but the reason I liked it is because it was great fun.

I never really get "scared" with these kind of movies. With movies like Scream, where I care about the characters, it's more nervousness that Sidney is going to get it than actually being "scared" at anything going on.

I dont really get scared anymore with horror movies including scream. The only time I semi jump is in a theater and thats only because the audio is cranked so loud that when someone jumps out the noise just gets you. when Im at home its just another movie.

Good point, I guess.

I never said I think realism should be applied to everything. I'm actually against in most things.

Freddy downright terrifying when he first appeared. Same for Michael. Jason was scary to audiences to, but not as much I don't think (I love all the slashers pretty much equally). They may not make me jump as much anymore, but I still love them.

I'm sorry, but Paranormal Activity is an insult to horror films, IMO. It's a good example of one thati never got scared of, tbh. I'm fine with other people likeing it even though I wish they'd see the horror films below the surface. There are so many good ones that come out each year. Makes me scratch my head as to why they aren't in theaters. Espeically some like Trick 'R Treat (2007).

Oh, btw...the worldwide numbers? 67.3 million. This film is going to be considered successful based on international numbers alone.

Scream is more of a mystery and thriller for me. There are horror elements, but it's more self aware of the horror.

And these films make you think more and actually use your brain. You're a participant. They're so fun they don't have to be scary. There's thrills, kills and chills, but it's all fun as hell and mysterious.

PA wasn't an insult to horror films , you may not have liked it but that's a difference of taste. PA relied on real fears and was a nice change of pace from the gory films we are used to seeing. I wasn't scared personally but it got a lot of great reactions from people and good reviews . Also it was original compared to the 100 texas chainsaw massacres knockoffs that have come out

Yeah, it was something different in the horror genre. I enjoyed it.

I think slashers did their psychological damage for me many moons ago. I still get the irrational fear someone might pop out from outside my door and kill me. The best chance a horror movie would have on me is to reawaken a pre-existing fear.

As for during the movie it's only if someone blasts the audio that I might jump. When Kirby almost crashed I damn near jumped out of my seat. Also there were some other good jump scares. I view the Scream series as Mystery Thrillers. There is a lot of humor but that falls under black comedy

Well, to each his own, lol. I just don't understand what was scary about it. Some people called it the scariest film since Halloween (1978). Ummmm...what?! The Devils Rejects was original. I know some may disagree, which is fine, as I said, but it was original, if you were implying that it was one of the knockoffs. Even Roger Ebert, a guy who's known for criticising horror films (I like him, but I hate his views on horror) Actually like The Devils Rejects.

It got good reactions from fans of horror (somewhat), but mostly from people who haven't watched alot of horror films and that's saything something. People aren't used to anything scary anymore because half of the great ones aren't in theaters. They're always in DTV and things like that.

Blair Witch Project was more affective, IMO. I'm glad I never saw the second PA.

Like you said though, it all comes down to taste. I've been watching horro that is known as well as lesser known my whole life and I will say that I believe PA is one of the most overrated horror films of all time. It's all a matter of opinion though. This is just how I feel.

Well Devil Reject's I liked but a lot of horror falls into the trappings of being homage . Doesn't necessarily make them all bad but it inspires studios to keep doing the same things. There are some gems in the DTV market but also endless sequels. I think the Butterfly Effect is still going on somehow.
I think some of the best horror out there is actually in the foreign market. Stuff like Rec , Descent , Let the Right One In , etc.

Exactly Jones.

Personally, I love Scream for all those things as well. But I also love slasher films because they are fun. A while back, I used to pull all nighters watching them, lol.
