People who say that **** aren't thinking hard enough. I don't know why everyone has such a hard-on for the Jill gets away with it idea. She would have had to have died off very early in Scream 5 and then your just back at square one.

Although somewhat predictable, I could see Judy being the killer in the next one. Based on her like of Dewey, and counting out her I guess new friendship with Gale, I could see her beginning a series of killings to give Dewey more to do, and prove himself as a better sheriff or something. Like have the town questioning if Dewey is really an effective sheriff or something, and have him always come out nearly unscathed when the killer is around, actually prompting mores suspicion on Dewey.

Judy was a red herring. Her being the killer would be as odd as Dewy being one. I think they shouldn't return to Woodsboro again anyway. Of course that makes it hard to get Dewy and gale involved and it just leads to square one which is....where do you go from here? Almost all solutions seem silly, in my opinion.

Well, this is one reason Dewey needed to be dead long ago. At least with Gale you can have her travel around to do reporting and research for books with Dewey you have to come up with contrived reasonings.

Since when a franchise has ridiculous things happen when you get to part 5,that's what they should do.Have a ridiculous motive i mean.Like have it take place 20 years after the first movie where Sydney is having her 20 year high school reunion.

Have Judy be the killer,but make her have a sex change where she use to be Stu.

The only time I felt Dewey's presence being contrived was when he was hanging out on a Hollywood set as a consultant in Scream 3. I think the others worked.

Being the Sheriff, and if the next movie is set in Woodsboro again, he can easily be in the thick of it again. But I still think Dewey needs to die. If you took him out of Scream 4, the story would barely be affected, if at all.

I thought Dewy's simple relationship with Sid and their brief scenes together made him more important to S4 than Gale. She just kind of ran around on the C-storyline (A and B alternating between Sid and Jill and her friends) that ended halfway through the movie at Stabathon. Dewy's importance to Sid just made him more memorable while Gale kind of faded to the back to me. Like when Dewy gets beaten with a bedpan and just his relationship with Deputy Judy gave him more memorable things to do. I like Gale a lot, but she just kind of does the same thing over and over to me. I guess so does Dewy, but I find his shtick more refreshing and unique in this genre.



It risks becoming what the beginning of Scream 4 was with the Stab movies within Stab movies. Just desperate meta ********, to paraphrase Anna Paquin in the movie.

That's exactly what I mean. The fact this is a fifth movie just it desperate and a cash cow. If they're trying to satirize something, in the end, it's still a fifth film.

Would have been interesting if he had been the killer in the third. It fits into Randy's trilogy rules where the past comes up from behid to destory you. Or maybe it diminishes Stu's whole character from the first. He said he did it because of peer pressure to going to the mastermind in the third would seem kind of a leap.

Is it true in the last draft of Williamson's script before the rewrites, Kirby answers a question about the killers in the Stab movies, and it's revealed Mrs. Loomis' first name is Nancy?

I feel that Dewey nor Gale really effected the plot in a major way in Scream 4. It was first about Sidney and then about Jill and co. Dewey fell to the background after the First Act and played mainly the "Sheriff' while Gale got taken out of the story in the second act when she was stabbed and could have easily been replaced by Dewey or even Judy in her appearance in the final scene.

The difference is that I think Dewey brings a lot of great energy to these movies. Courtney Cox is amazing as GAle, but her character's personality is not unique to horror movies....the fact that she lives is, but still. Dewey as essentally Barney Fife in a slasher movie is really unique and gives the Scream movies a unique tone and charm. I think Dewey/Arquette bring a really great energy to the films. That energy is why Wes decided at the last minute to bring him back to life in the final shot of Scream 1 and why they had to reshoot the ending of Scream 2 to include him alive after test audiences soured.

Even if Dewey isn't central to the plot, his presence and energy elevates the movies, in my opinion. I think Scream 5 either needs to not have any of the three back and focus somewhere else or will have to kill off one of the marriage and probably Sidney....which at this point I don't really want to see.

I don't how they could do this to Sidney again without her going schizophrenic. If anyone dies my guess it will either be her or Gale. Sidney's death would bring a jolt to the series but also they need a suitable replacement. After seeing a conclusive ending for the trio , twice , I won't mind if they focus on new characters.
I'm also surprised Gale made it through the fourth but if they keep bringing her back it's inevitable she gets it.

However, there is no such thing as the investigative reporter in every horror film. Gale is FAR more original to the genre than Dewey ever will be.

But Dewey is actually more interesting and likeable and not just one of the soon to be killed victims for the killer. He's a twist on that stupid cop character in every horror film, but the difference is he is still alive.

However, there is no such thing as the investigative reporter in every horror film. Gale is FAR more original to the genre than Dewey ever will be.

Gale is the super-motivated *****y, professional woman who steps on everyone. Kind of like Alison Brie in Scream 4 or Parker Posey in Scream 3.

Yes, her being a journalist is a bit different, but the presence and energy she brings is not. You're focusing too much on what they do and not what their characters bring to the movies beyond their occupations. While there are always cops in horror movies, how many are like Dewey? A cross between Barney Fife and a little boy.

Aruqette's performance and little quirks (eating an ice cream cone while trying to copy a sheriff smoking a cigarette, his limp underscored by dorky western-hero music) is an energy that helps give the Scream movies a distinguishability from other horror franchises. Even in the '90s with all the Scream copycats, it was this sense of self-awareness and humor that characters like Dewey and Randy brought to the films that helped them stand out compared to the melodramatic tripe that Williamson also wrote (I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Faculty, etc.).

They've killed off Randy, Tatum, Stu (they kind of had to in that case), and it appears Kirby as well who was the first sequel character to bring that energy. If they get rid of Dewey, I think it will become a lot more dull in a new serious tone.

Tbh, I agree with this. I'm a big fan of Dewey despite him being that type of cop character.

Gale should of died in Scream 4,Kirby should be the new Sydney,and Scream 4 showed that they can have a sequel with new characters.
