Scream 4!!!!! - Part 4

Has Neve, Courtney and David expressed any interest in doing a fifth one?

I think they all are obligated to do Scream 5 and I know Neve and David at least have commented about they'd be excited to go back again. Though Wes has said one or two of the three will probably most definitely die in Scream 5.

I just want to know if we will get a Scream5 or not! Hope we find out soon.

When Scream 4 premiered in April, Neve Campbell was at the Toronto premier and someone asked her if she'd return for a Scream 5. She said yes :)

Yeah, and that doesn't really surprise me. I definitely expect a major character to be killed of.

I think Courtney Cox dying in the opening scene would have the biggest impact on the characters.

I'd actually rather Dewey go first. Judy can replace his function. Gale's kind of a difficult side of the story to replace in that you need that element of the reporter/writer trying to get the scoop in there.

Or how about Dewey?

In order to continue this story, they need to take the focus off of Sidney. Which doesn't mean she can't be the main character in the movie, but it doesn't mean she has to be the main target.

Perhaps Dewey is killed in the opening. The sherrif is dead. "I shot the sherrif" could be written in blood all over the walls (LOL). Maybe it was from someone working closely with Dewey on the force? Another cop? Someone next in line after Hicks?

Maybe this has nothing to do with Sidney at all, but more so about Woodsboro. The killer is trying to establish order in Woodsboro (possibly someone running for mayor?) by creating fear and setting everything up to look like the hero (after the authorities have caught the "killer" (but really framing someone else........maybe Sidney or Gale?).

I'm thinking outside the box here. I think for them to continue they could make it more about Woodsboro as a whole instead of specifically making it all about Sidney. But like I said, it doesn't hinder on Sidney's involvement on the story.

I don't know if it has to be central. Honestly, if you removed Gale from Scream 4 (and overlook it being really short in how much time was dedicated to her) the movie wouldn't have been affected in any major way. I think Dewy is more important. However, I think Sidney would go before either because literally...just how many times can this happen to Sid? To paraphrase David Arquette on the S4 Bluray, "Poor Sidney. Always so many problems for Sidney!" It really got absurd in S3 and even more in S4....her going through this a fifth time with no more formula's (sequel, trilogy, remake) to lampoon.

Honestly, these movies work because they always have something to say about the genre and/or Hollywood conventions. S5 would just be another sequel unless they leave the main trio behind....but then they are throwing away the other part of Scream that makes it stand out: a cast of survivors/heroes who are the protagonists (as opposed to the killers who are in most slashers) and who grow from film to film.

Ok, how about this :

Opening kill. Let's change it up and have a guy and his girlfriend. Boyfriend is killed, girl is injured but gets away. Her parents decide to sue the makers of the Ghostface costume and halt further production on it. Lots of debate whether this would actual stop someone from committing murders or not, parents say that's not the point, etc.........

So it ends up that the Ghostface costume has been banned. Customers are no longer able to buy it anywhere due to its damaging rep. The owner/creator of the costume comes under fire trying to stop the ban. It makes big news. The ppl of Woodsboro are relieved, however. Everyone with masks are told to hand them in over to the cops.

Unfortunately, more murders start happening. Dewey has his police force sweep Woodsboro and make it clear : "Anyone harboring a Ghostface mask or costume and hasn't turned it in yet will be apprehended by police and named a possible suspect".

The story escalates from there, but that would be the first act I assume. They could have a whole theme about consumerism and merchandise and how companies can make a profit over something so heartless and tragic.

I finally picked this up on Blu Ray, can't wait to give it another viewing.

I'm all for another sequel if they're up for it.

If someone's gong to get knocked off in the next one, my bet would be on Courtney. Not sure exactly why, just seems to make sense over Sidney or Dewey.

I know I've said this before but Sidney and Dewey are very similar to Laurie and Dr. Loomis from Halloween. They have that type of a relationship. That being said, there's something special to be said about having a horror franchise with two female leads that always manage to beat the odds like Sidney and Gale.

I don't think they can ban a costume from being made and they certainly can't arrest people who already have the costume. Honestly, I think any sequel should avoid Woodsboro. They had it in the first and the "Return to Woodsboro" in the second and that worked. But it shouldn't become like Haddonfield or Camp Crystal Lake. It should be a real town and having it repeat again and again there would just get stale.

I think they honestly should just focus on new characters in Scream 5. If they are to make a new one, I really can't see where they can take Sidney anymore, much less Gale and Dewy. Unless they plan to kill them off, in which case it will feel kind of like an arbitrary thing to do, simply so as to make more movies (coughLaurieStrodecough).

I think people are looking at this wrong. It shouldn't be about what the plot of Scream 5 is. It should be what about the genre and filmmaking in general is it satirizing and deconstructing (1=slasher/horror movie; 2=sequel; 3=trilogy; 4=remake). The story can organically grow out of that, in my opinion.

But the question is, what else is there to be satirized?

Long running horror series that don't know when to stop? By the time most horror movies get to their fifth installment is when they start getting desperate and doing silly things. They gave Michael a curse in Halloween, they replaced Jason, they had Freddy trying to come back into the real world through a baby, they had already started doing that with Child's Play 4, but went one step further with not only a bride, but a transgendered son for Chucky and placing it in the real world, they add a useless tack on like they do in Final Destination 5. There's always something they try to do to bring the glamour back to franchise. They can satirize stuff like that. I think that's a bit of where Kirby might come back in too.

They can also touch on the 3-D trend a bit, lampoon the under-performance of Scream 4, by maybe having the next installment of the Stab franchise having a similar problem. Maybe the killer would go after Kirby or another new girl and you could have Sid just be there for the ride or being threatened with the idea she's the reason Scream 4/Stab 8 underperformed. The killer thinks maybe the Stab needs the new blood as the heroine.

There's quite a lot left they can lampoon.

Honestly I still say Dewey is not all that important to the franchise anymore. Gale figured out everything last time as per usual and all Dewey did was run around Woodsboro the entire film like a chicken with his head cut off. Now that Judy's around he's even more redundant kill him off in the opening and have Judy attempt to take his place. Then if you want get a next gen Sidney in there (if they don't bring back Kirby), and go with it.

Dewey and Sid are a faux brother and sister.

Gale is the third man out.

I'd argue also that the Weinstiens would rather have Courteney than David as her name has more outside draw than his ever will.

I agree about Dewey. He was really forgettable in Scream 4. If any of the main trio were to die I think it should be him.

I always preferred Sid and Gale over him anyway.

I think they should end up with the 4th one. I know people have said this before but I feel like if you kill of one of the main characters after surviving these things 4 times, it could get meh. Think Laurie dying on Halloween:Resurrection.

If they do come up with something fresh and innovating (which I think is what this franchise needs -- they need to think outside of the box this time) then they should do it.

If Gale is killed, then that gives the story some meat to work with because Sid and Dewey are so close that the drama of her death would be a pretty good topic for the two throughout the whole movie.
