Scream 5 in Development

I'm kind of neutral on it. I don't love it, don't hate. I wouldn't have minded a 5 that quickly morphs to the S in the title reveal in the trailer, just to give a nod to it being the 5th. I will say that the Scream series is in a unique position to actually comment on that trend, so it could work in that sense.

And yeah, I mean "5 Cream" was an inside joke with the cast and crew, so I think they are embracing that this is the 5th film but probably didn't want to go that direction with the marketing because it does sound pretty silly and wrong haha.

:funny:

If they make another film after this, I was still hoping it would be called Scream 6 but I guess by this logic it wouldn't be. I just don't know if I'd want to see this series go down the "Scream: Subtitle" route though. I feel like if this movie successfully relaunches it, they'll have earned the audience goodwill to bring back the numbers.

They should just keep naming every one from here on out just Scream. So if it’s the start of a new trilogy you’ll have Scream, Scream then Scream which of course are all sequels to Scream.

I recently rewatched the first 2 Scream movies and really wish that Randy had stuck around. Would have loved to hear his thoughts on remakes, reboots, etc. in today's world

It's like a rule today for new installments of horror franchises to just have the title of the first movie again lol. We've got 3 Halloween movies called Halloween and now 2 Scream movies called Scream. I feel like there's more I'm blanking on.

I hugely hate that this sequel is unoriginal by using a dumb name that is Scream since this is the 5th Scream movie, not a reboot, and not a remake.
If they don't want to name the movie Scream 5 then give the 5th movie an original name.

The trailer showed a lot for 1 scene.

Random thought but theres one scene I’m really hoping for in this movie and that’s a recreation of the water fountain scene from the original movie (and the one that was weirdly deleted from scream 4 for some reason)

I would love to see the new cast sitting around the woodsboro fountain like old times talking about the murders. That would really give me the classic scream vibe

Also the fourth Final Destination was called The Final Destination which makes zero sense since adding "The" to the front of it makes it truly sound final, but then it wasn't and the next one was called Final Destination 5.

The Fast franchise really won the "naming sequels" game.
I mean look at this. Is both gorgeous and terrifying at the same time!

The Fast and the Furious
2 Fast 2 Furious
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Fast & Furious
Fast Five
Fast & Furious 6
Furious 7
The Fate of the Furious
F9

And yet somehow they all fit in their own bizarre way except for Fast & Furious, which should have just been called Fast & Furious 4.

I’ve been contemplating what to do this year and making a full Fremen Stillsuit (from DUNE) seems like a lot of work.

This popped into my head last night, found everything at one thrift store… other than my og Easter Unlimited mask, of course.

I have no issues with it being called Scream either. Most people can tell it's a sequel anyway.

I think is fine for the release if they wanna call it like that but I would really like for them to just name it Scream 5 afterwards in home releases and streaming platforms. Just call it Scream 5.

Well, I’ll be adding a 5 on my custom Blu-ray cover that’ll match my other 4.

It's lazy. I can get over it quickly but it's a little annoying gotta admit. Candyman. Halloween. Scream. Let me guess David Gordon Greene will call the new Exorcist sequel "The Exorcist". Lol like...just come up with a different title? It's confusing down the road and only convenient for marketing the film.

I was inspired by what you guys were saying regarding Scream 2 being awesome and I gave it another shot. I ended up feeling the exact same way as I did years ago. Just not a good Scream sequel IMO. Didn't buy the villain reveals for a second. The whole "she lost 60 pounds!" *eye roll* having the mom kill Randy is just dumb. Olyphant trying so hard to act as crazy as Stu. Not a good or even fun performance.

How stupid are Sidney and her friend during that whole car scene in the third act? These sequels always make the main character dumb as nails. I feel like Craven should have passed the torch in 97 because he watered down his own creation and the original characters.

The only stuff I enjoyed was the opening scene with Jada and Gail trying to get away from Ghostface in the school. I really wish that opening segued into a completely different movie.

If it was up to me I would have retconned every sequel and only kept the original. Randy's still alive etc. But after being so let down by Halloween Kills, I'm kinda getting over this whole nostalgic "bring back the old cast for a sequel and use the exact same title!". It's happening with the DCEU and horror now. All of these classic slashers only have one true good movie in their franchise and that's the OG. That's all I need. Let these properties die in peace. Their mythologies aren’t deep enough to warrant more sequels.

Also, I think it's important to keep in mind that while the Scream movies are "horror" movies, they are also clearly parodying horror movie tropes and the concepts of sequels, trilogies, etc. -- even in the first two films. Purposely self aware unlike other slasher movies.

In the first Scream, Sidney tells Ghostface on the phone that she doesn't like horror movies because they're always about a killer chasing dumb big-breasted bimbos who run up the stairs when they should be running out of the house. When Ghostface eventually pops out, she does exactly that and winds up running up the stairs. The movies play with things like this.

As for Sidney, she becomes progressively smarter and stronger over the course of the films, not dumber.

Listen carefully what he says during that scene. It makes perfect sense.

"Billy Loomis....what a rat lookin' homo repressed momma's boy".

The momma's boy part always stands out to me when you know its Mrs. Loomis he's saying this to. I did love what she said to Sidney in the finale when Sid started s*** talking Billy - "Randy spoke poorly of Billy and I got a little knife happy!".
