Scream 5 in Development

Geez Billy really couldn't get over his mother leaving him. He killed Maureen already but I guess the abandonment from the affair warped him to lump Sidney into that.

Killer analysis dude. (sorry)

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned or not, but do we have any idea of what runtime this movie will have? I haven’t heard anything about it but I’m really hoping for something similar to scream 2’s length. That was perfect imo

Probably around 90 minutes. All killer, no filler, literally.

According to ViewerAnon, it's 107 minutes without credits.

For context, Scream is 104, Scream 2 is 113, Scream 3 is 110 and Scream 4 is 103. So that would put it right in the middle of the pack if true.

I loved Scream when I was young, but I have not seen the films in sooo many years.

It was time to rewatch them. Watched all 4 in two days, with two films back to back.

Scream - Fantastic. The beginning. That opening scene is pure brilliance. 8/10
Scream 2 - Disappointing. For me it is a major disappointment compared to the first. 6/10
Scream 3 - Even worse than two. This is going downhill. 5/10
Scream 4 - Wow, this was actually not bad. I really liked it. Great kills, and the reveal was great and clever. 7/5/10

It got me pumped for number 5. But I think some majors must die now. Can't wait for January to see it.

Aw that sucks you didn’t enjoy scream 2 or 3, for me its actually scream 4 that I have issues with. But you inspired me to make my own list:

1. Scream 2 - 10/10. IMO the best movie of the series, the main trio are given alot more to do, gale who is my favourite character is at her best here, the balance between comedy and suspense is perfect, the chase scenes/kills are super inventive, I love the setting of the college and the mystery/reveal is my favourite of the 4 movies.

2. Scream 1 - 10/10. The original, its classic and I absolutely love everything about it, not much else to say.

3. Scream 3 - 7/10. I used to not like this movie much at all but it has really grown on me over time to the point where I love it now. It’s just so much fun and I find the added backstory and history behind the murders really interesting. Sidney IMO is at her best in this movie and I find her arc and journey to overcoming her fears really powerful, including the ending shot which is probably my favourite ending of the series. I also LOVE carrie fisher’s cameo as the film archive clerk

4. Scream 4 - 5/10. For me this is the opposite of scream 3 in that I used to really love it and over time I’ve become more and more critical of it. First of all the look of the movie is just ugly and IMO has aged the movie terribly, it just looks old and dull and its only been 10 years. Sidney’s character here is the weakest and basically does nothing for the entire movie except look and act exhausted. Neve’s acting is still great its just that the character seems so checked out of the movie, up until her final scene. Woodsboro doesn’t feel like Woodsboro to me, the movie doesn’t have Red Right Hand and there’s not really one great chase scene. The one plus about this one is I do love Emma Roberts as Jill and I thought that aspect of the story was handled very well

Hoping scream 5 sits at the top with scream 1 & 2!

Why Scream 2022 Is Not Called Scream 5 According To Kevin Williamson

I get that he's trying to appeal to new audiences but I still don't understand his logic. Calling it "Scream" again when it is by all accounts the fifth film and not a reboot or remake is pretty lazy. I loved the 2018 Halloween but I still think they should have called it "Halloween Returns" or something to differentiate it from the original. I assume that influenced the decision for this one to have the same title as the original too.

Agreed. I hate the title being the same (Halloween as well) since they’re actual sequels. And kinda funny the, “what are we going to do, name it Scream 5 in this day and age!” F9 called lol

Exactly. And everyone is going to call this one Scream 5 anyway, so why avoid it?

If they make another film after this, I was still hoping it would be called Scream 6 but I guess by this logic it wouldn't be. I just don't know if I'd want to see this series go down the "Scream: Subtitle" route though. I feel like if this movie successfully relaunches it, they'll have earned the audience goodwill to bring back the numbers.

Not that important ultimately I suppose. Anybody pick up the 4k yet?

Curious, how do you all feel about this relatively recent trend of giving a sequel to a movie the exact same title as the original? I’m not sure I like it; it can be a little confusing. We now have three movies titled “Halloween;” an original, a remake AND a sequel. There are also three films named “Shaft” which are all part of the same series. And now we have two films called “Scream” in the same series. Cheesy as it is, I feel like they missed an opportunity not calling it 5cream. Then again, 5cream could be misread as “five-cream” which… sounds like something else entirely lol.

I don't like it, and I'm not a fan of putting "The" in front of sequel titles either like The Predator or The Final Destination did, although at least that differentiates them better than just being the exact same title. I'll excuse The Batman in this case since that's a complete reboot and doesn't have anything to do with previous Batman films.

As someone who’s had to refer to Tim Burton’s Batman as Batman 89 whenever it comes up, I’m just not that bothered by the whole title thing.

Man, that's what I hate most about it. I remember when watching it the first time that for me it was obvious that the the reporter woman is the killer (one of them). She was so out of place in the whole movie. And Mickey had this huge killer vibe, he was my number one suspect. For me the reveal was weak. Scream 3 reveal was worse of course.

What I really liked in Scream 4 was the reveal. I suspected Rory Culkin's character to be a killer, but the reveal of Emma Roberts was unexpected. She was fantastic.

Still, for me the first scream is a masterpiece of the genre. The first murder (opening) is pure brilliance. Written very well, directed with suspense, very well acted. I love that scene so much.

Overall, after seeing the 4 films, I am excited to see Scream 5 (um, sorry, Scream).

I'm kind of neutral on it. I don't love it, don't hate. I wouldn't have minded a 5 that quickly morphs to the S in the title reveal in the trailer, just to give a nod to it being the 5th. I will say that the Scream series is in a unique position to actually comment on that trend, so it could work in that sense.

And yeah, I mean "5 Cream" was an inside joke with the cast and crew, so I think they are embracing that this is the 5th film but probably didn't want to go that direction with the marketing because it does sound pretty silly and wrong haha.

I have no problem with the title, especially since the film itself is going to comment on and mock this new trend. Otherwise, makes total sense from a marketing standpoint and will bring in new viewers who otherwise wouldn't be interested in seeing "Scream 5" if they hadn't seen the previous 4.
