Falcon and Winter Soldier SEASON 1, EPISODE 4: The Whole World is Watching (SPOILERS)

I'm thinking it's almost going to be cathartic. I don't think it has to do with death. Maybe more like moving on? Sam taking the mantle and the rest of America accepting a black man as Captain America. The writer said it gets real so that's my take away.

Don't want no more trauma.

So perhaps Spellman said that when we would cry, it would be more tears of joy?

I'm going based purely on conjecture, but there are still the scenes from the trailer with Sam practising with the shield, Sam and Bucky in Louisiana on the boat, Bucky telling Sam that people need someone to get behind, etc etc that we haven't seen yet. Granted, this could all happen in the 6th episode, but I feel like 5 is where it comes to a head with the shield and Sam accepting who he is. Whether it's given to him by Walker who gives it up in an emotionally charged scene or it's taken from him is what remains to be seen.

Plus, who is there left to kill off that would have such a huge emotional impact to the entire story?

Yes, they did kill off the black man, but the good news is that he wasn't the only black character on this series, so it's not a big deal.
I liked Battlestar. There was a good chance he was going to die at some point although I would have liked to see him past the series, but it makes sense. I guess I was still in the comfort zone after episode 3 and thinking anything like that would be saved for the last 2 eps. At least he added a nice touch to the show in the screen time he got.

I think the SHIELD will be taken away from Walker once his actions from today go viral and the American public turn on him.

Probably yeah. Or I guess they could go the other way and try to spin it like he does what the situation calls for or whatever. I doubt they’ll go that route but you never know. Depends on whether this version of the U.S. government is willing to admit they ****ed up.

Notice how Walker was adored by the public in episode 2. Well that's all going to change in episode 5 and its going to force the US Government to take the SHIELD and Captain America name away from him. He can react to the public and government turning on him in one of two ways: either be defiant about it and refuses to give up the role or he gets a moment of realism and realizes he messed up big time and volunteers to give it up.

I think so, too. But I don't think Walker will object.

They might if the viral video goes global and their allies have a say about it.

I feel like this show has a little bit of a tone issue. Falcon/WS can be really charming and funny together, but I feel like they haven’t had enough of an opportunity to play off of each other like they should be able to. There was some of that in episode 2, but the rest of it has been so serious and a little bit bland.

I also think the story is kind of all over the place. That first episode had some good character-building story set up that I feel has gotten lost in favor of the “super soldiers” plot. I’m interested to see how it’s all going to tie together in the last two episodes.

I’m still enjoying it and it has great moments, but these are just a few of my thoughts.

Anyone else find this show slow and kinda boring?

It would be so much more powerful if it was Steve holding his shield covered in blood. Captain America 3 should have dealt with Steve struggling with the serum, whether he did the right thing taking it, the public image of Captain America contrasted with the brutality of what Steve actually has to do, and him dealing with modern war. Tied in with Zemo trying to tear down the symbol of Captain America, kill Steve, and destroy super soldiers, the remnants of Hydra, and Bucky.

Yeah, disagree. The point of the serum, made by its creator , Dr Erskine, in Cap TFA was that it enhances what's already in you, which is why he chose Steve who was a good person to his very core. Steve wouldn't have had the same problem as Walker, so right away that storyline has some problems.

Also, the issue of Cap dealing with more modern warfare was at least touched on in Cap TWS,when he rebukes Fury.

That closing shot with the shield. Wow.

Pretty good build to Walker's inevitable heel turn. I like that it was tempered with his legit wanting to do good, vulnerable between his past and the impossible shoes he was too willing to fill and partly being an insufferable pratt.

The last shot tho.

Wow, that was intense! It did start off a little slow but really picked up. Zemo continues to be the best part of the show and I'm really invested in Walker's storyline, but I can't help but think Karli, the Flag Smashers and everything with that is just not all that interesting.

Seb really sold that opening scene too. I could feel his pain there.

I do wish we saw Walker take the serum on screen but wasn't needed.

Wow. Episode 5 is going to be a doozy.

Most characters would be screwed going up against a Thanos type threat, even Thor.

Well, technically Thor came closer than anyone to actually defeating Thanos in IW but this does raise an interesting question: why are all these people so obsessed with recreating the Super Soldier Serum when there are so many better super-power-granting chemical formulae around in the MCU?

Like the Extremis serum. Those guys were casually ripping apart Iron Man suits like they were cardboard. Or the Pym Particle, which is just ridiculously OP. Compared to those, the normal Super Soldier Serum looks a bit weak.

Like, if I was a wannabe supervillain in the MCU, I wouldn't bother with the SSS and instead would put my resources into getting ahold of one of those.
