Season 6, Episode 9 "Battle of the Bastards" Discussion Thread

I think that by the end of the series, it will be the women who run the seven kingdoms.

and to get it out of the way.... Come on.... the arrows missing jon, the horses missing jon....all that obvious plot armor was crazy annoying but it was just ****ing fun to watch

where the **** is ghost though... i mean come on!

I'm willing to bet they had to make a choice. One Dragon and one direwolf or three dragons. They chose three dragons.

On the bright side Ghost lives...for now.

I was really hoping to see some Direwolf v. Ramseys dogs and have Ghost eat Ramsey.

Such a fantastic episode. Easily the best of the season and one of the best the show has seen. Practically on par with The Rains of Castamere and Baelor.

I didn't think we'd see the outcome of the siege of Meereen this week (much less see Theon and Yara show up there before the finale). Very strong opening scene with all three dragons finally letting loose as adults. I assume next week will see Daenerys [BLACKOUT]finally decide to make the move to Westeros[/BLACKOUT].

As for the bigger battle, it was glorious carnage. I had a bad feeling that Rickon was a goner and my fear was right. It wasn't easy watching that scene. Same goes for Wun Wun's death. :csad:

However, the most satisfying death in the show made up for those two. Yes, this was even more satisfying than Joffrey. At first I thought Jon was going to pummel his face in like the Yellow Bastard in Sin City, but when I saw him tied up in the dungeons I knew he was dog food.

My only gripe about the episode is that Ghost was nowhere to be seen. I know it was a CGI orgy with the dragons but it did seem odd that he was absent with Jon in so much danger.

That final scene though....

Not a huge fan by any means but that battle was one of the coolest things I've seen on TV

The battle was the absolute equal of something you'd see in The Lord of the Rings or Braveheart. Awesome production values, cinematography, and choreography.

And that unbroken tracking shot was awesome.

Even the opening with the dragons breaking the siege of Mereen was visually epic.

i mean they literally copied lord of the rings... the rohan thing... the final battle with the actual ring around the army... but it worked and i loved it.

My only complaint is it was a very well-done episode but also very predictable. I pretty much called everything ahead of time.

For a show that likes playing against tropes, it played pretty straightforward tonight.

The North does not remember

Did they really bring back Rickon without giving him a single line?

The other more subtle satisfying moment of this episode?

Seeing the Stark banner flying at Winterfell once again.

Rickon should have ran zig zag and not in a straight line. Those Reddit leaks were dead on. Altogether a very satisfying episode.

I liked the HBO GoT because it skipped the big battles and gave more time for the scheming; the verbal and strategic jockeying between big and entertaining characters. That was fine for Tywin, Tyrion, and characters that just grab your attention with their words.

But Jon Snow needed this. That minute or two when we went into "Jon Snow Vision" in the thick of the combat, that was amazing.

I thought it was a comeback episode for Dany. She ebbs and flows between being interesting and then being stale and robotic. I thought this was fine and she's benefitted from screen time with Tyrion and Yara.

We finally saw the dragons be the WMDs of lore. That was nice.

Everyone says this was a satisfying episode, and I think that's the perfect word for it. We had a few slow episodes and this was a tour de force of action. I'm not going to say this was an all-time episode for me because I think the show is at its best with the little moments between the characters.

Looks like my man Lord Baelish is going to make his move on Sansa to make himself Warden of the North while also controlling the Vale. But the show hasn't been too subtle in showing that Sansa is learning that game and may be one move ahead of Littlefinger. Speaking of which, what is Sansa/Jon's next move? It's got to be Walder Frey and...

I wonder what deal Jaime cut with Edmure to get him to surrender Riverrun? We're getting closer and closer to Jaime going rogue methinks.

I still want someone to take Baelish out back and make him disappear.

It was such a feel good ending I was half expecting Maester Luwin to walk into Winterfell having healed himself.

RIP Wun Wun. I really wanted to see you ride a dragon

Exactly, as satisfying and visually enthralling as Battle of the Bastards was, I can't rate it as top episode. But it was definitely a comeback episode. And what a tease it was to show us Lady Mormont and then not let her dress down Ramsay or get any lines!

Dany showed some of her underlying cruelty and madness tonight. If Tyrion hadn't pulled her back Essos would have been ****ed. I just hope he will always be there to keep her in check.

I would not have been sad to see Umber lead a turncloaking from within Ramsay's army.

I prefer this to nonsensical twists for shock value (I'm not talking about GRRM, but some of the sillier things this show has done this season...)

Basically a shorter Tywin working with a prettier Aerys.
