Season 6, Episode 9 "Battle of the Bastards" Discussion Thread

finale preview

I'm trying to figure out who the fast walking mystery man is at the :32 mark. Looks a faith militant with the chains over his shoulders. Is he going to carry out an execution or is he moving quickly after maybe assassinating someone?

Baelish can't be trusted, and he's going to stab the Starks in the back the first chance he gets.

Lancel?

Sansa can marry him then throw him out the moon door and take the Vale for herself. That will solve the Baelish problem.

I just hope that the showrunners don't have Sansa suddenly trust Baelish, and that Jon doesn't trust Baelish at all. I feel almost certain that in the end Sansa will have the Vale and the Vale Knights. The knights and lords of the Vale will respect Sansa more than Baelish...I hope.

I think Sansa is quite aware of Baelish and his intentions. Let's not forget that he killed Lysa and had a hand in Jon Arryn's death too. She could very well have him up on charges and sent to Robin for his trial.

Great action in this episode. I was surprised they didn't do a cliff hanger.

Shouldn't Jon be furious at Sansa? If she had told him the Knights of the Vale were on the way he could have saved a thousand lives.

I do hope they decimate every house who sided with the Boltons.

Marrying Baelish and then killing him wouldn't exactly give Sansa the Vale.

Yes he should.

She's still being manipulated by Baelish. She played right into his hands yet again. Somehow, I don't see that happening.

Anyone in her situation would have done what she did. They need Winterfell, and they needed him to get it. Not winning back winterfell, getting slaughtered, Sansa having to run, Ramsay taking the whole North, and slaughtering the Night's Watch and claiming the Wall would have put her and the whole of Westeros in more danger than allying with Baelish to win back winterfell.

My only complaint is it was a very well-done episode but also very predictable. I pretty much called everything ahead of time.

For a show that likes playing against tropes, it played pretty straightforward tonight.

These writers are so vicious (or is that writer, since Martin told them how it would pan out).

I was hoping they would finally give the Starks a break. But nope.

She already testified that Lysa killed herself. Jon Arryn's death was ruled natural and no one outside of dead people like Ned and Cat even dispute that. And Baelish's role in killing Joffery isn't really meaningful since Tyrion was convicted and is a fugitive of justice.

The best Sansa can hope to do is seduce Robin, then she will have the Vale, the North, and possibly the Riverlands if Edmure cut a good deal with Ser Jaime.

She probably didn't know they were coming yet. It's not like Baelish RSVP'd. It would have been worse for her to get Jon's hopes up, only for the army to not show up making them look like utter idiots on the battlefield (more so than they already did).

All of which still gives Baelish every strongest advantage possible to strike. This all plays into Baelish's plan.

Sansa could easily send ravens to every lord in the Vale retracting that testimony, telling the truth and even embellishing it by claiming that she was forced or manipulated to do so, adding that she was pawned off by LF to the abusive Boltons. One of them took exception to that fact IIRC. She still has that card to play.

Littlefinger schemes don't matter much when the Walking Dead are at the gates.

What do you guys think Sansa's endgame is? It's kind of interesting that you have this growing duality with the pure-hearted slaughtering-machine Jon Snow, who really just wants to make a defense against the Night King, and then there's Sansa. Sansa who wanted revenge against Ramsay and now she's falling into the power grabbing game of Baelish.

Does she have her eye to the north of the wall and the white walkers, or is she now playing the game of thrones?

Who cares about Littlefinger's secret plans anymore? There are ice zombies coming to destroy everything! :funny:

Edit: Someone beat me to it. :oldrazz:

Oh she could definitely seduce Robin all she has to do is flash him one of those boobies. I still think she could plea to Robin that she was coerced to lie for fear of her life. It is pretty much the truth. sorta.
Another thing that might be cool is that they are meeting near the Wierwood tree. Would be crazy if Bran could see it and warged into Littlefinger and turned him into an idiot and all he could say is "I killed Lysa" over and over. (yeah I know)

I wonder why they showed us the white eagle or falcon whatever that bird was.

I think she just wanted Winterfell back and will want the Freys destroyed next. She doesn't strike me as the ambitious schemer.

Uncle Peter owns the Vale because he has The Lord of the Vale. Sansa sending ravens borders on meaningless. She had no credibility in her own country, her own bannermen rebuked her, she was married to Ramsay and a Lannister at the same time.

She's still damaged goods, and her sending ravens retracting her own tearful testimony, making herself a perjurer on top of everything else, I don't think would be received well.

the people thinking Littlefinger is in control, Sansa is becoming a player.

In all fairness, that wasn't consummated and therefore doesn't necessarily count.
