This felt like the equivalent of "The Next World" following up on "No Way Out" with how light hearted it was since it a pretty focused episode. I like how Ezekiel saw right through Carol's BS act- the people of The Kingdom are at least smarter, it seems, than the people of Alexandria- and was upfront about who he is and how he pretty much had to take on this role after being raised to near god level by the people.
But, at the same time, he's not a pushover like Gregory and is willing to fight, even if he would rather not. He's like a more proactive Morgan. He may not advocate violence, but he's willing to fight if the time calls for it, even if long term by giving poisoned pigs to the Saviors.
