well he didnt really physically beat him, he basically tricked him into grabbing Jor-El's medallion which I guess is similar to Superman II when Supes reversed the effects of the de-powering device in the FOS

No, I agree. I meant physically.

Are you Gancos from Bluetights.net?

Well this episode just had so much in it, and I cant quite put my finger on it, I'll need to watch it a 3rd time, but there was just something different about how they got from step one to step two. Whatever it was I enjoyed it thoroughly and hope they keep that theme up for the rest of the season.
I thought the pacing was fabulous in this episode. Maybe that's what you noticed?
I know all the guys, and some girls, out there in our fandom just eat up all this punching each other stuff. And several have already remarked on how it wasnt enough in this epside, but I can only handle one or two punches before I'm saying enough already. I would rather watch the intellectual and emotional side of the characters.

That's the greatest strength of this show, IMO, the balance of Clark's human and alien sides.
Four pages of reading everyone's posts, and I'm waiting for someone to say this and like you I've come to the same conclusion.

:D Although, as someone pointed out, perhaps he was talking about the Phantom possessed kid. That would make sense too.
Hmmmm..... I'm no special effects specialist, but I thought that close up shot was a real shot from Vancouver's China Town.

I did too. That's where they did the shots for Sacred, so it makes sense they'd use it again.

Speaking of Lana... first, I was struck again by how really beautiful KK is. I figured she was alive, but was surprised they showed her so soon. Do you think she really didn't tell Clark what she was up too? Wouldn't that be beyond cruel to let your friends think you are dead? Since we left her and Clark talking in the barn, with her spilling everything to him, I thought may-be he helped her with the plan... but apparently not. She HAD to have help from someone.

I've been thinking about Lana's "faked death" and I'm wondering . . .

I've been suspicious all along that they are in this together. She came to him to say good bye but would he just let her deal with Lex alone? They finally have a shot at a real relationship for the very first time now that Lana knows his secret and he knows it doesn't matter to her. Could explain his seeming lack of grief???

I think Clark's reaction was spot on. He was holding back on the tears, and not giving into just breaking down because firstly, he has a job to do and secondly because he's realised that at some point he is going to lose everybody in his life. He cant allow his emotions to take control of his life.

Well, that's what I think they're going for.

I can't wait for the full explanation about what happened with Lana. It's hard to imagine that she pulled of the ruse all by herself. At the close of last season, I was convinced that Clark and/or Chloe were in on it, and called in Ollie and company to carry out the plan of whisking Lana away. But now, I'm not so sure. Her final words to Clark about how he'd never be safe while she was around keep ringing in my ears.
If she did pull this alone, and she's letting Clark and her friends think she's dead, it better be for a good reason - like she's convinced it's the only way to keep Clark safe and to get herself away from the Luthors.

And avid, ITA that *if* Clark is truly in the dark about Lana, then he was suppressing his grief because there were other more important things to attend to (which were probably a welcome distraction to keep him from having to face the devastation of losing her).

Pretty much. Her character has easily become my least favorite part of the show. Is it me or did her acting actually degrade over the years?

KK was amazing in season 6. Perhaps you are letting your hatred of the character cloud your opinions of her acting.

it was a cool episode, can't wait to see more of Supergirl. she's hot.

but, can someone please explain to me what the deal is with Lana Lang?? what the hell is she doing in Shanghai, and wearing that blonde wig? keep in mind, i missed the last couple episodes of last season, so please catch me up to speed.

thanks :)

I'd like to take this opportunity to plug Smallville - The Complete Sixth Season now on DVD! It's got all 22 episodes of Season 6 in beautiful high definition with 0 commercials. Special features include some ish about the Green Arrow and a couple poorly animated cartoons about said man of green.

Buy it today. :)

Whos the one who flew after Bizarro got punched by Clark? Was it Martian Manhunter or Supergirl?

Awesome wrapped everything up in one episode again.

Now just 20 crappy episodes until a great strong finish.

is it just me or did the SFX on this show get more kick ass..

I honestly was really quite wowed by the Visual effects of this show... sometimes its been very dodgy but this episode was off the hook for TV visual effects..... I loved Clark's stopping the wave with his heat vision, it felt intense, unlike other superman related entertainment products

Thanks:) I don;t get the gripe of so many that Clark needs to leave Smallville, when the show is called Smallville, its not like he's bound there, he can travel.
Why do people like Bizarro as he;s depicted in the comics so much? is it because its just what they're used to? I'm not being critical, just trying to understand the appeal. I've always hated Bizarro in the comics and I do love how SV takes DC characters and makes them more approachable for everyone. I don't know if I could have stood him talking backwards and just being a general buffoon.

Its a nice review overall though, thanks for posting.

case and point on the quality of smallville production right here:

the bathed in sunlight bit. I mean honestly, to half of us it makes no sense. To the other half of us, who worship the show without question, they think its cool, without trying to figure out that the whole concept does not make sense

this is something they should have dealt with 6 months ago, when the epi was being penned. Someone should have just criticized that the whole sunlight thing, in the way it is used in this episode, is problematic, and still doesn't make sense.

at that point in production, they could have defined bizarro's weakness as anything. Anything would have worked better, air, water, earth, whatever. I mean honestly, how is a cool bad guy like bizarro supposed to survive for a decent amount of time in the series when he can't even go outside: SMALLVILLE PRODUCTION TEAM - TERRIBLE PLANNING.

The sunlight doesn't kill him, I'm not really sure why you have such a huge problem with it. He's the opposite of Clark, Clark gets his strength from the sun, so Bizarro should be weakened by it, which he is, which is why he sought kryptonite. It makes perfect sense to me. Direct, concentrated sunlight weakens him faster, just like direct exposure to kryptonite weakens Clark faster. I think it was used well.

I thought that the ep was good but i wanted a big long fight and i got two uppercuts and a kick into a tree. It just was kinda silly. I love spending time on Lois and Chloe but this is CLARKS show so they could have showna bit more of that. In any case the episode gets a 6/10 considering they left us last season with so much potential for this season opener and kinda just dropped the ball a bit. I forgive them though. I thought the evaporation of the water in the beginning was really cool and where alot of the money might have gone. In anycase it wasnt anything groundbreaking but it was fun.

If I had one nit to pick, it would be this:

How did Lex know to refer to Bizarro as a Phantom? As far as Lex is concerned, the wraith he was tracking across the globe was an alien being. How did he know to refer to it as a "Phantom?" Is it just a coincidence?

So you'd rather have him as a rehash of Red K Clark? :whatever:

I didn't think he was like RedK Clark at all, he was a lot more viscious and menacing, but if given a choice between RedK and ugly dude talking backwards, yes.

Great attitude. Hate on an entire season that you haven't even seen yet.

Although, you do get point for a great avy.

No time to read it now, but I will later. I read a phenomenal breakdown of this episode yesterday, perhaps I can get permission to repost it here.

I thought they did an adequate job of showing Lex figuring out it was the phantom since he did know that particular phantom was a body jumper.

I think that's such an easy criticism to make, but I don't think it's really valid at ALL if you really compare the two. There were marked differences in RedK Clark and Bizarro, both in actions and reactions.

As cool as this Bizarro is, I'm still waiting for the big, purple, ******. There's a very Frankensteinish nature to him that I like. He'd switch from bad to good on a whim because of how confused about the world and himself he is. Maybe even team up with Clark against Brainiac or Brainiac with Zod. Smallville Bizarro was just out and out evil (and that was awesome but hey so is regular Bizarro).

Right, grabbing Lois's bum. Vicious. :oldrazz:

Evil people are very, VERY horny. If this show was on showtime he'd have raped and impregnated half of Smallville.

What's even more ******ed is that Lois actually thought he was in shock when he did that.
