Season 9.....a Possibility?

I think they should shoot two different episodes (one a season finale and the other a series finale). I know Everwood did it and it turned out okay.

Babylon 5 did that also. At the end of season 4 they were not sure if they would be renewed. So they filmed a SERIES finale. At the last minute the show was renewed for a 5th season. So they shelved the episode and save it for the end of season 5.

Could you imagine if Smallville secretly filmed a series finale and then were renewed!!??!

If there were any possibility that TW wore the suit or even so much as took a step in a red boot the bounty on that footage would be incredible.

Fan boys and girls would be dangling from ropes within the CW offices like Tom Cruise in MI2 trying to get their hands on it.

There was a rumor several years ago that TW screentested for the McG/Ratner Superman movie. (Remember when he dramatically cut his hair halfway through Season 3). If there's footage from that, it has never leaked.

Interesting, I've actually never heard that one.

I would love to see a compilation of the screen tests (at least the better known actors) for Superman going back to the original S:TM up through all of the false starts before SR.

Yeah, that would be an amazing compilation to see. The confirmations of who actually tested would be great revelations, as would the sight of, say, the Tim Burton era stuff.

Hmm, I don't remember what the change in hairstyle looked like. I remember how big/long his hair was at the start of S3.

after seeing these concept drawings, i'd rather not see anymore more of the Burton era stuff. pleh. http://www.jamescarsondesign.com/project/Tim Burton Superman/img_01.html

Isn't there supposedly a picture in existence of Tom in the suit and Beyonce' as Lois?

Pat? Bueller?

Oh, I would. I definitely would. Morbid curiosity. Lure of the freakshow kind of thing. :p

Sounds like an urban legend... ;)

Beyoncé as Lois... ....... ..... blah.

Hmm... I know they've had a series finale in mind, I just hope they aren't forced to compromise it to make it work as both a season finale and a possibly-maybe-could-work-until-we-know-for-sure-if-we're-coming-back-or-not series finale. The series finale needs to be pure, bold, unadulterated. Being in a position of "Well, we have to tie up this season and... oh, dear, the whole show," in the one hour time slot wouldn't bode well, IMO. Yes, hopefully there'll be official word soon. 9 seasons would be a stretch, yeah, but I would rather them end this season knowing they were going into a 9th.

Absolutely, the ingredients are in place to create a fantastic series ending episode. The dramatic events leading to this season finale are forcing Clark into an increased evolutionary rate as a hero, that he HAS to 'make the leap' already. Otherwise, after Doomsday, how can it not get ridiculous next season as they try to top the amazing run they've somehow managed this year?

The CW I'm sure wouldn't mind another season, but that's totally up to them, I'm not sure Smallville would survive on any other station on primetime tv for more than a few epiosodes, the last thing we want is for it to move to another station only to have them unplug it after lackluster ratings (Compared to other big network shows). From a show perspective, I don't see why you would delay a finale, this is the perfect time to make their big bang be heard. The wheels are in motion, just steer this thing in the right direction and everyone wins. Syndication is already given, and the DVD sales of this season would be great with the positive feedback it's gotten thus far.

Who knows.... but they did talk for sure.

On NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly:

Welling said he talked to Brett Ratner when Ratner was attached to direct. Ratner has subsequently left the project.

"I actually went to Brett's house in Los Angeles and we sat down and talked about it a little bit, both knowing that scheduling would always be an issue," Welling said.

"Basically, if that movie were to happen, the show would pretty much have to go away, and I don't think that's what anybody wants."

"As least they've come to you," Daly said.

"They have, they have. Maybe just as comparison, but they have," Welling said.

Yeah... the show already feels, at this point, as though delaying the inevitable is just... well, ridiculous. So many Superman elements are in place that the prospect of another season makes me (and people I know that watch it, too) wonder... why or how are they going to justify holding him back yet another year?

I think the DVD sales of this season are going to be pretty good regardless. I know I'm going out to get it as soon as it comes out (unlike season 7, which I really had little interest in getting, and ended up getting as a Christmas present. Haven't even watched 2 full episodes... season 8 has me spoiled. :p)

The Shows GREAt i love it but the show is showing doomsday for cryin out loud and clark didnt face him untill well into his career as Superman. they Sholud either start calling it Superman and put Tom in the tights or quit while thr ahead.

So...still no word whether or not Smallville has been renewed?
I would have much preferred this to be the last season, but now I hope they get a new season to have a proper finale. I don't want them to have to take to the Everwood route and film two different endings. I loved Everwood(still can't believe they ended it for..what? 7th Heavens 100th season?) and while the finale was good, it deserved more. So point- I want there to be a season 9, just so they don't rush the ending. Maybe they'll bring back Lex(doubtful, still wishing though).

we will probably be hearing within the next few weeks since episode 15 have been filmed now and they have said by the time episodes 18-22 start filming they need to know for sure if its the end or not.

i doubt we will ever see a full on suit. i think the ending will be him just ripping his shirt open to reveal the :super: and maybe fly away !

i for one don't see the need for a season 9 and from what ive been hearing it may not be happening.

At this point I really don't give a rats ass how they end this series .

Nice idea Smooth that would be epic!

I hope the last scene of the show is Lois on a rooftop fighting some bad guy or trying to escape and the bad guy knocks her off the roof and she's plummeting. Suddenly a red-blue blur soars through the sky. People ask if it's a bird or a plane. Lois is screaming as she's falling and the last shot is a pair of hands with arms in blue sleeves grab her in mid-air.

They should just end it with Lois on the chopper and him catching her like in the movie. They'll proly never do that but for me that would be great.

If we get a 9th season I'd like the season 8 finale to end with Doomsday attacking Smallville and a space shuttle about to make a crash landing in metropolis and Clark flying off the top of the Daily Planet to save it.

My ideal Season 9:

9.01 - "Savior": Clark saves the space shuttle and prevents a massive crash that could have wiped out several buildings in metropolis, including the daily planet & lexcorp. Jimmy gets a snap shot of the "red & blue blur" catching the shuttle, only this time the blur isn't a blur but clearly a "man". Lois writes an article about the event and calls the mysterious figure "Superman". After Doomsday's rampage in Smallville, Clark Finally catches up with him and uses the fortress to send him to the phantom zone.

9.02 - "Shock": The "Superman" incident has all of metropolis buzzing but Leslie Willis, a DJ for a local radio station has some choice words about the "Superman" and "meteor freaks". An explosion at the station causes an electrical outage which leaves her paralyzed. Clark and Lois investigate the scene and discover that Bette (Plastique) might have been the person responsible for the attack.

9.03 -Chief: The Daily Planet has a new editor, Perry White. Jimmy attempts to earn brownie points with the new chief by getting some snap shots of the "Superman" and Lois joins him in an attempt to bring the camera shy hero into the spotlight. White challenges Clark to get the scoop on the "Superman" himself but he's hesitant that if he shrugs it off he'll either be fired or his secret will be discovered.

9.04 -Star: Oliver Queen builds a new laboratory outside metropolis called Star Labs and appoints Dr. Emil Hamilton as the head of operations at the facility. The Toyman, resurfaces and threatens to destroy the lab unless Oliver gives him the blue prints from a top secret file. Clark and Oliver eventually outwit Winslott, but the blueprints disappear and it is clear someone was using him to obtain them.

9.05 - Gang: Oliver and Clark attempt to find out who is behind a string of robberies at star labs and discover that an organization called "intergang" might be responsible. Lois and Jimmy are following the robberies themselves and get in over their heads when they discover that the blueprints taken from star labs are now in the possession of intergang.

9.06 - "Secrets": Troubled by publicity he's receiving as the "Superman", Clark goes to the one person who might be able to help him, Jor-EL. Green Arrow & Black Canary in the mean time are on the hunt to recover the missing blueprints taken by intergang. Oliver reveals to Dina that the blueprints are the only surviving copy from Lexcorp's old Prometheus experiments.

9.07 - "Home": Martha Kent returns to Smallville and is amazed by the progress Clark has made. He tells her about his visit with Jor-EL and decides that he's going to need to help distinguish himself between Clark Kent and the "Superman". Oliver traces the missing blueprints to Star City, where he's captured by intergang.

9.08 - "Mild-mannered": Clark come to the Daily Planet wearing glasses. When asked about them he says that his vision has been going and that contacts hurt his eyes. Lois becomes suspicious and attempts to see if there's more than meets the eye concerning Clark Kent. Dina and AC ask Clark for help after Oliver disappears.

9.09 - "Hunted": Oliver is taken to Africa, where he is left in a labor camp to die. A mysterious heroine rescues him and the rest of the captives in the camp. Clark and the league track down the warehouse where Oliver was taken. They find the Prometheus blueprints, and the person responsible for Oliver's disappearance: Morgan Edge.

9.10 - "Risk": Oliver returns to metropolis to face Clark. He tries to explain the potential good that could come from restarting the Prometheus project but Clark fears that it could once again fall into the wrong hands and destroys the blueprints. Morgan Edge is released from jail by a mysterious figure and in return Edge hands over a file folder containing a copy of the Prometheus blueprints. The Legion returns and pleads with Clark to come with them to the 31st century.

9.11 - "Conquest": Clark goes with the Legion to the 31st century, but it isn't what he expected. Earth has been destroyed and the Legion is at war with an army of kryptonians. Clark learns that at some point in his future, time was altered. The cause: Brainiac. Despite the Legion's best effort to reprogram Brainiac, he rebooted his systems and traveled back to the current time frame and sent phantoms from the phantom zone to the 31st century to defeat the Legion. Clark must return to his time and prevent Brainiac from destroying the future. As a parting gift the legion gives Clark the only thing they recovered from the museum dedicated to him on earth, his suit.

9.12 - "Naman": Clark returns to earth, but not the earth he knows. Interference with his legion ring sends Clark hundreds of years earlier, before he ever was born. The temporal transference shook him and his legion ring was separated from him in the forest. While searching for a way back to his time, he saves a native tribes woman and in doing so meets the tribe that names him "Naman". Clark realizes that it was he who would tell them his stories, in fact it was he who wrote his own destiny, later to be written on the cave wall.

9.13 - "Vixen"
Clark returns to his current time and begins research in an attempt to prevent Brainiac from sending phantoms to the 31st century. Meanwhile, one of intergang's smuggling shipments is attacked by the mysterious fem fatale that rescued Oliver. Clark and Lois decide to investigate intergang's smuggling operations. Clark and the heroine, now called "Vixen" work together to stop intergang. Vixen is reintroduced to Oliver and joins the league.

9.14 - "Parasite" An explosion causes chemical changes in Rudy, a janitor at Star Labs. He begins to absorb all energy from anything he touches and becomes intoxicated with the urge for power. Lois and Clark investigate the explosion while Oliver investigates a string of bizarre murders, all of which have ties to Lexcorp.

9.15 - "Reboot" Kara returns, or has she? Clark Welcomes back his cousin with open arms, until he starts to notice her memory lapses and he grows suspicious. Taking Kara to the fortress for help from Jor-EL, the truth is unveiled and she is actually Brainiac, attempting to use Clark to open a portal to the phantom zone. Clark forces Brainiac into the phantom zone, but not before Brainiac secretly imprints himself into a crystal in the fortress.

9.16 - "Livewire" Leslie Willis regains consciousness and metropolis is in for a shock! Using her newly found electrical abilities to attack meteor infected citizens using the Isis database. "Livewire" then seeks out the "Superman", threatening to destroy the Isis foundation if he doesn't make an appearance.

9.17 - "Force" The police force unveils a new experimental suit that is expected to increase strength and agility. Clark notices the design appears oddly similar the Prometheus suit.

9.18 - "Lobo" Coming from parts unknown, Lobo, an alien bounty hunter seeks out the best earth has to offer and terrorizes metropolis asking for its "Superman". Clark realizes that he can't keep his identity a secret much longer and considers putting on the suit.

9.19 - "Empire" Lex Luthor returns out of hiding. Clark keeps his distance as Lex absorbs all the media attention. Lex later requests Clark to visit him and it appears that Lex has no memory of Clark's abilities.

9.20 - "Invasion" A beacon from the fortress alerts Clark and he discovers a portal to the phantom zone is open. Clark destroys the console preventing Brainiac from sending phantoms to the 31st century, but now he has a lone phantom zoner to contend with, Zod.

9.21 - "Suit" After sending Zod back to the phantom zone, Clark returns to the farm in Smallville and discusses the choices he's made with Martha. The time has come for him to fully embrace his destiny. Clark dons his iconic suit for the first time.

9.22 - "Destiny" Four super powered masked individuals break into a federal bank and they appear to be Green Arrow, Impulse, Cyborg, and Aquaman! Clark investigates the robbery and discovers that they were wearing different variations of the Prometheus suit. Clark interrogates Lex about the suits, leading to a show down between the four Prometheus suited thugs and Superman. Lois finally gets her exclusive interview with Superman.

whatcha think? :D

Wow. You went all out!

Some stuff I really liked:

-Bringing back Martha, Perry, Morgan Edge, and Lex.

-Establishing Intergang & S.T.A.R. Labs!

-The whole concept of the Naman episode. Brilliant.

-Bringing in Vixen, Livewire, Parasite and Lobo.

-Clark taking the final steps to becoming Superman.

Love bringing Brainiac back, that's always fun, but I think it'd need to be something other than taking over people's bodies or trying to release Zod. Plus, I think that the lost city of Kandor could make a VERY interesting debut in Season 9. Also, I think it'd be great if Lex came back and pulled a Birthright by not even acknowledging his past friendship with Clark. Lastly, I think that maybe Clark gets only a brief glance of his suit in the museum and then uses that as the basis for his suit back in his own time.

You've inspired me, I think I may do one of these myself!

thanks! Decided to give the idea its own thread, would love to see your version!

Fantastic job TW4S.

I pretty much agree with everything, and all seems plausible by using elements and events that are happening this season.

Though I would replace the Zod coming back with Darkseid. Just because Zod has been done before and Darkseid would be nice.

some cool ideas and things i would love to see though some we could likely not get due to budget reasons.
