It's not an emotional thing. Like I said before, a 14 year old can have sex with another 14 year old and it's perfectly legal.

That's because they are on 'equal footing'. They're equally immature. Equally underdeveloped psychologically and emotionally and equally unable to make sound judgments. But when you pit a minor and an adult, one is at a 'disadvantage'.

They just made the legal seperation between minors and adults cause of physical reasons. 14 year olds aren't that physically mature yet.

Looks like we'll just have to agree to disagree on that.

Please...some of you...stop the generalizing. It's situational. You don't know if the kid was ready or not. There are plenty of young people who don't get messed up emotionally by having sex with older people, and there are young people who do. And there are older people who get messed up, and older people who don't.

There's no such thing as a 14-year-old who can walk into a bar and order a beer because he was mistaken for an adult. A 14-year-old can pass for a junior or senior in high school, but definitely not a 20-something.

I once met a guy and he asked me how old I thought he was, I swear, he genuinely looked at least 20, turns out he was 14. Scary world.

What's the difference? Based on your post, I'd say there is no difference. Like smoking and drinking, sex between consensual adults are legal. I do wonder why though, if one is considered an adult at age 18, is drinking not allowed until the age of 21.

That, I can agree with. Not everyone is the same. My posts are just to illustrate why I can understand the law that prohibits adults from having sex with minors.

I totally agree. But we kinda moved on from that. We were talking about laws. I think a 14-year-old (a/k/a a high school student) should be mature enough to make these decisions. But since physically, most of them aren't THAT physically mature it's a good way to catch pedos. If someone is into 14 year olds then they're probably into 11-13 year olds as well. Which is an age group of kids who shouldn't be having sex with each other let alone an adult. So, that's why I said these laws were more based on physical things than emotional ones.

Yeah, that was me. I was an early bloomer. I ended 5th grade as a typical 10-year-old and started 6th grade as an 11-year-old who looked 13 or 14. And from then on till I was a senior in high school I always looked 2 or 3 years older than I really was. Thankfully in college I stopped aging.

But haven't you read some argued that the CHILD is WILLING and if the child consents, it is not wrong and therefore shouldn't be a crime because the child knows what he's doing, knows what he wants and is very capable of making sound judgments that has nothing to do with his raging hormones and sexual curiosity?

I still consider a 14 year old teenager to be a child. Just because 14 year olds think about boobs doesn't make it right for a 28 year old to have sex with them.
