Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 1

Ok my memory is getting foggy a bit with this one so someone please remind me. So is this film taking place after the original? After the first 2? After 1&2 and Predators? Is it just a soft reboot or a full reboot? I totally forgot what the plan was with this.

According to Black it's a present day sequel, in continuity with the first 2. I think Predators is set further in the future, so it doesn't matter.

This new reimagining of |The Predator will be set in |Present Day -- which is to say, 2018; and so the futuristic events of Predators have not yet occurred. |We're on earth, the time is now...

All the solo Predator stuff has been very good in my eyes. I can easily pop in either sequel blu ray and have a fun night.

How many action films on their own come close to Predator? It's not many.

Predator 2 has only gotten better with age. At the time it was criticized for being too different from the first movie, and that's what makes it work.
We get everything flipped on us right away. The Predator is involved from the first 5 minutes. The traditional hunt has been abandoned. This hunter goes nuts on everyone instead of the traditional hunting of one prize at a time. You also have nice little time capsule of a movie, from the hard copy satire, to the growing fear in the early 90s of the escalating urban crime rate.
On TOP of all that, you have prime badass Danny Glover who is completely believable, intense Gary Busey, and prime Bill Paxton chewing the scenery and being as *****ey as we can expect him to be.
Despite the different setting, the urban jungle is also very eerie when accompanied by the new motifs that Alan Silvestri provided, ditching alot of the military motifs from the first movie and adapting jungle and tribal motifs.
It also has some excellent suspense, the aftermath of the subway scene, the meat locker, and the pursuit of the Predator undergound. It also expands the mythos of Predator, it's been a shame nobody has been able to build on it worth a damn. It's very different from Predator, and that's what makes it a good watch!

I don't think Predator 2 is bad and unwatchable. It feels like watching Alien after watching Aliens first. I agree with the points you've made but if I had to pin point why the movie feels like a downgrade to me, it would be probably be the nineties-centric setting when compared to the timeless feel of the original and Danny Glover winning in a hand to hand fight against City Hunter who was on home ground on a Predator spaceship.

C'mon mother****er, LET'S DANCE. :woot:

:woot: Cheers my man, it's all good. Predator 2 still has the coolest ending in a Predator movie so far with the Elder and all those other Predators (even though I still wonder why they were there..were they even hunting?).

Perhaps in other parts of the west side while City Hunter was in L.A.?

As a kid, I assumed that City Hunter was doing some hunting during no hunting season and the others came to capture him or something LOL.

What about, given the trophy case, some kind of guided tour lol.

One of the odd things about keeping Predator 2 canon, is it also means the xenomorph skull in that trophy case is also canon.

It was that skull that led to the birth of the whole idea of the Alien vs. Predator comics.

I love Predator. I like Predator 2. I was on board with the concept of Predators but ultimately I didn't like it. I'm not a fan of any of the AVP movies.

Jake Busey being cast is interesting. He has a very strong resemblance to his Dad. I wonder if they'll use this as part of the storyline (is his character the son of special agent Keyes?) or if it's totally unrelated.

Agreed, have liked all 3 so far, the first one obviously being the best of course. But i have enjoyed the sequels also.

I know this is a Predator thread but it grinds my gears that Fox hasn't been able to make a good AvP movie. Like the story for the AvP2 game could be adapted and it would be a solid entry...i don't get it. You have the Colonial Marines by the POV of the story and write the Preds and Xenos around them.

Edward James Olmos Joins Shane Black's 'Predator' Reboot

The movie is shooting in Vancouver with Boyd Holbrook leading the cast.

Edward James Olmos is suiting up for The Predator, Shane Black’s reboot of 20th Century Fox’s sci-fi action franchise.

The movie is shooting in Vancouver with Boyd Holbrook leading a cast that also includes Room breakout Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Alfie Allen, Yvonne Strahovski and Olivia Munn.

The movie once again features unsuspecting humans who slowly realize that fierce hunter-aliens are in their midst, this time in a suburban setting.

Olmos will play a military character.

Cool, I'm thinking that he'll have a role kind of like R. G. Armstrong had in the first film maybe.

Also having seen Logan recently, I'm pretty darn confident that Boyd Holbrook will make a good lead in this film.

I have no prejudice about the cast but the kid, so far the only kid I was fine with in this kind of movies was the one in Robocop 2.

The guy has charisma and is the type of actor who has been utilized correctly, unlike Jai Courtney (who got ****ed over in SS) or Sam Worthington.

Holbrook could be the next great leading man.

Yeah Arnie you've been blessed with such great scripts' in your career that you're crapping on a Shane Black written screenplay.

"They asked me, and I read it, and I didn’t like it — whatever they offered. So I’m not going to do that, no. Except if there’s a chance that they rewrite it, or make it a more significant role. But the way it is now, no, I won’t do that."

My guess is he wanted to have more than just glorious cameo or being just referenced in way it ties to original. Just from his words, he likely wanted an actual role in the movie.

Yep that's how I see it too. Shane Black isn't obligated to have you in there anyway.
