Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 2

You do know how you sound though, right? Not exactly like someone who doesn't have a chip on their shoulder over this.

Critics Consensus: The Predator's energetic blend of black humor and fast-paced action hits just hard enough to nudge this oft-waylaid franchise back on track while setting up sequels to come.

The consensus sounds more positive than you'd think looking at the ratings they have. I just can't imagine this being worse than AVP or AVPR considering the director, but then again a year ago Ridley Scott angered me in ways I couldn't have possibly imagined with Alien: Covenant so anything is possible.

I actually liked Alien Covenant more than Prometheus. But it was similarly flawed, and I found it only ever so slightly better. So that is not saying much. Both films are criminally boring and full of stupid.

I was actually enjoying Covenant a little bit more than Prometheus for the 1st half of the film. Then the 2nd half revelations happened, with the Xenomorph origin reveal getting me really angry really fast.

Sounds like based from the reviews the action and humor save it but Im curious if your obssesed with the predator lore and mythos like I am do you get more in that area because if so I may end up loving it then. Just hopefully not the mytho expansion like last years alien did to that franchise

I honestly think the ending pretty much killed the Predator franchise as we know it. I fear to see the sequels this Movie wil spawn. This is the first time I actually want to see the series rebooted. Or maybe they can pull a Halloween and ignore all the past sequels and give us a "true" sequel to the first two Movies.

Honestly some of these alleged problems don't really surprise me. Because even in Iron Man 3, which I'm not that big a fan of personally, I noticed some of these same things and they didn't really work their either imo.

I dont understand how how hard can it be make solid Predator movie. Movie about alien who comes to Earth with a few days to kill and hunt. Put it in different setting, maybe somewhere during feudal Japan. Just make it unique in setting with simple plot. And make it all about skill and respect.

Basically expand Predator mythos they come to Earth for long period of time. Basically it would be prequel to original Predator. We dont need Predator dogs, we dont need stupid humor and jokes.

Because according to some people, we can't rehash the premise of an alien hunter who comes to earth, to make thophies of men. We need to expand, we need to increase the stakes. We need to ruin the premise of the hunt and turn the franchise into something it's not. And apparently the direction they chose is to try and compete with the MCU.

I think there is a happy medium somewhere. We don't want to see the same movie 100 times. I can agree there. But at the same time, you don't want to go too far outside the box. I think both sides can be satisfied if done right.

Take the jeepers creepers route possibly where its open to different interpretations and time periods but stays within the universe and mythos setup

For me, the 2010 PREDATORS is still a fun watch.

Agreed, they should have a sequel to it IMO.

Well I think so, but I can't speak for any one else. I re-watched it pretty recently too and while I do still prefer the first two over it it's a solid entry in the franchise in my opinion. My biggest gripe with it is probably the Predator's getting taken out a bit too easily, but other than that I do enjoy it for the most part, especially because of the more serious/darker tone. Not saying there's anything wrong with humor being in a Predator movie, but I keep hearing everybody describe this as having MCU type humor which just sounds horrible and that's coming from someone who is an MCU fan.

Agree a lot with this

It's getting reviews added like mad, and it keeps spiraling down. I am thinking this is going to dip into the high 30s eventually.

Don't know if I'm seeing this anytime soon but I'm curious about the movie's ending. Can someone PM me the ending? Vile?

Just saw it. Way better than I expected. Stop posting these bulls**t ratings and percentages, guys. Why are you so obsessed with them? I didn't read any review or check any rating site so my expectations were totally unaffected and I'm glad for that. I'm starting to avoid these sites like the plague.

From promo materials I read about this, the whole concept sounded totally dumb to me, but the film is actually very different from what I imagined based on that marketing nonsense. I'd say it's the best Predator sequel.

The expanded mythology actually made sense (or at least from the perspective that you have to come up with something because you need to make sequels). There were very funny moments, I mean so funny that I don't even remember the last time I laughed so hard in the cinema, (loool, just recalled some scenes :lmao: sooo good). I loved the crew, Shane wrote nicely peculiar and eccentric characters. The pacing was great, no boring moments whatsoever. There were some shaneblack-isms other directors would not put into a Predator movie, IMO, but... well duh. The action was solid, thanks god it was R-rated, some takedowns were really gruesome.
But, don't expect the atmosphere of the original film, like at all. While Predators still feel awesome, it's a very different kind of feel than what McTiernan did.
And the end, I of course don't want to spoil anything, so I won't say anything too specific, but for those who don't care or 've seen it already...
WhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaDAFUQ was that MCU techno-bullcrap???!!! That was really bad.
Like Shane gave us a very nice sequel, but if this is the general course this franchise will follow then some miracle has to happen to make it worthwhile.

Agreed. It's called "Predators" and it came out in 2010. :P

Consona, was this good movie or good Predator movie?

From what I am getting from your review and critics this is exactly fun comedic R-rated movie with some Predators in it. But that doesnt make it good Predator movie.
