Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 2

It's not fair to anyone that was portrayed in this movie. All of them were cliches to some degree with no visible satire to it.

Munn isn't perfect. And she filmed with Singer before MeToo and TimesUp happened. Even now she is at risk of being blacklisted for "problematic" behavior such as calling out a director who hired a registered sex offender, the very thing that Hollywood keeps failing to address (amongst the other -ism's it hasn't fixed).

So working with Singer was probably a calculated risk to her. He was questionable but she's an actor, they need to work to make money and this was a big deal movie so I can see why she signed on.

In this case though, she was not told about this guy's past even though Black knew it and hid it from everyone. Once she learned of it she was supposed to what, not call it out and be a hypocrite for knowing his past and not saying anything?

No matter what she said or did not say, someone was going to use this against her. She might as well stand by her convictions on this and take the heat rather than stay silent and accept that Hollywood won't change on its own unless people call it out every time.

I've seen this criticism levelled at Olivia Munn. Although what the detractors miss out is Bryan Singer (not from a rap sheet) hasn't been convicted of a sex crime as far as I know. Where as this Striegler guy (may as well been called Strangler judging by the scene they cut) had been convicted and is now a registered sex offender which was kept from her, the co-stars and the studio.

Also just highlights what's wrong with Hollywood. 'Jobs for the boys' and men just giving eachother a freepass (and probably a high-five as well) over such things. As evidenced by the very slow response from her male co-stars. Jake Busey even said she should've waited another month so as not to 'take away' the shine off the film (seriously?) - link.

Also As someone with Tourette's Syndrome himself, I found how they used it in this film was incredibly aggravating to say the least.

I can see where some would take issue with it but thomas jane had a charm to him where he didnt over do it. Its hard to club the movie on that when in the same breath the child with autism is the one an entire alien race wants because they believe he is superior to the rest of us

Just got back, I can't believe how ridiculous and tall this pile o'crap was. It's an immensely wasted opportunity, feels like the cast was dropped into the wrong movie and a very bad one at that. Everyone behind the scenes (looking at Black) was the wrong choice to take upon this property.

3.5/10

Haha, yeah, people love to ignore that Singer's been cleared on every case brought against him.

That's not to say he's innocent, seems there's probably something going on there, but there's a system of due process. It's not quite the same thing as Black's friend here who's been proven, found guilty, and done time for it. In a legal sense, Singer's clean so far.

Watching this tonight, though from the reviews I've read (here and elsewhere) I'm going in with moderate expectations. I don't think anyone truly expected a masterpiece, which is a shame - and it's a further shame that this isn't a masterpiece. If a 25 year anniversary film can't reignite the franchise, then it's not exactly going to get much in the way of attention moving forward.

Going in with low expectations is the right way to go about it. I wasn't planning on seeing this in theaters after the reviews were so bad but my girlfriend wanted to check it out and I think not expecting much from it allowed me to overlook most of its shortcomings and just have a good time.

I wonder how they will try to reboot this again in a few years. Of course Disney will own Fox by then so it may not even happen.

They need to pull a Halloween. Ignore the last couple Movies and follow it up with a real sequel.

The one last gimmick the franchise can pull is the long requested return of Arnold.

I know it's unlikely considering this film's press and performance, but I want to see the original cut of The Predator.

I think this Movie was pretty much the last chance to see Arnie return. He's now 71 years old and with The Predator crashing and burning at the box office, I think they will put the franchise on ice for another decade. And I don't know if people want to see a 81 year old Arnold on screen, when they decide to dust the franchise off again.

Plus they’ve exhausted all variations of the title they can use without giving it a subtitle.

Predator
Predators
The Predator

I guess they could call the new reboot Predatored.

Stop with the humans and have the Predators go to other worlds, like Asgard. Call it Predathor!

Shane Black did that thing that annoys me to no end these days. He makes huge sweeping changes to the lore/mythology with no regard to how it affects the previous films. Because this whole "the Predators take body parts in order to collect DNA to upgrade themselves with" makes no sense with what's come before.

-Why would the Predator want to "upgrade" itself using DNA from beings that it's already proven that it's stronger than/can kill easily in it's "normal" form?

-If that's what they're doing, then why did none of them ever come back to try and get Dutch again? He actually succeeded in killing one of them. Why didn't the Predators take Harrigan when he was onboard their ship and surrounded at the end of the second film? He actually killed a Predator in one on one combat, with said Predator's own weapon no less. And why didn't the Predators take Lex at the end of AVP (and you cannot say that AVP doesn't count since the spear from that movie appears in this onw). She managed to kill several Xenomorphs, earned a Predator's respect enough that he teamed up with her, helped to kill an Alien Queen, and the Predator marked her with his clan's symbol. Are none of these people worthy of having their DNA harvested, despite WINNING? It makes no sense.

-It makes the Predator's far less interesting and much more lame in-general TBH.

Just don't let Shane Black near any established franchises anymore. He should stick to doing his own original stuff.

The hybrid DNA thing was garbage and everyone knows it's garbage. To me it's proof that Shane Black hates this franchise and doesn't like it since he basically had to throw out everything that's come before and make his own new backstory, which not only contradicts what came before, it makes no sense.

Weekend Box Office Results for September 21-23, 2018 - Box Office Mojo

Movie dropped like a rock in its second weekend. 64.7 percent.

So, I avoided the spoilers and went in relatively dark here. What. The. Hell.

I was into the movie, two thirds went by and I wa enjoying myself. The CGI wasn’t great but I can still get through and enjoy stuff. And then that twist hit.
The Predators want to give themselves autism?!
And then I could just not believe what I was seeing for the rest of the film. People left my theater praising it, talking how much they loved it. I was just...in disbelief.

It makes no sense. Why do they go to the jungle or the city to hunt drug dealers, cops and soldiers? They needed to go to a school honors program or special needs school the whole time. It's ****ing moronic.

Actually had a pretty good time with this. It's objectively not exactly a great example of what a Predator movie should probably be, in terms of feel, but really felt it kind of stands on its own terms on another level.

*Shrugs* Not getting the complaints about the humor not hitting home, for one, personally thought like 8/10 of the verbal gags were goddamn hilarious. And the photography's pretty nice, even if I didn't dig the production design much, all the shiney/clean predator armor and stuff.

Very much a Shane Black movie, guess just depends whether you see that as a negative or not. It's his worst directorial effort, but still more or less worked for me. At least on an appreciated-what-he-was-going-for level - it didn't hit home all the time, even 3/4 of the time, but basically I enjoyed it more than Predators if only purely due to not feeling like a lazy (if really competent and more-or-less fine) rehash. Predators is the tribute band, a good time but you wish you were just watching the original/real deal, whereas The Predator's the crazy friggin' performance art act that's weird and laughable and probably not a good idea yet you're still grinning through half of it.

I didn't find myself grinning through it. I found myself asking a whole lot of questions and questionning the creative decisions of the movie. I felt like the humor was 50/50. Sometimes it was really funny, and others it felt like a pointless improv scene that had no clear goal for what it was trying to do. Many times during the movie, I found myself muttering "Get to the point!" or "Please move on!" I felt this same improv style in IM3, but the difference is I felt IM3 landed far more than this did. Many scenes here just got irritatingly pointless.

Well, I went, I watched, and I came out fairly satisfied. However, the last two or three minutes of that film just weren't remotely needed; what was in that capsule was a whole new level of stupid that for me, nearly ruined the film.

I wasn't overly impressed by the jacked-up Predator either; they could just as easily have used a more veteran Predator as the antagonist rather than the Super Predator, and those Dogs were a waste of screen time if I'm being honest.

I liked the humour [**** me in the face with an aardvark] and I found the characters likable, I just wasn't particularly a huge fan of the hybrid aspect, the hybridisation, and, as stated above, what was in that capsule. I don't think there was any need to imply the Predators were trying to make themselves better by gene manipulation either; they're supposed to be aliens, focused on the hunt. Lets keep them that.

One element of the film I wish they had explained a little better (or at all) is why Predator 1 stole that capsule and brought it to Earth for us in the first place? All we got was that the planet was warming up and was an invitation for more of them to show up, but why did Predator 1 go out of it's way to ensure we stood/stand a fighting chance?

So apparently the original script called for the capsule holding Predator hybrids. Basically think the Kenner Aliens toy hybrids...but with Predators.

So...why is that better?
