Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings General Discussion and Speculation thread

I still hope they'll get some legends like Jackie Chan or Jet Li.

With the casting of Tony Leung, you can tell they're trying to make a big-time appeal to China, probably more so than in any other film.

No clue. Don't think they've announced it yet.
If i were to guess, it’s going to be Shang Chi’s mentor or Yoda like figure to Shang Chi’s Luke

Was reading some comments on the internet, some comic die harders are already hating this film since Mandarin must be in Iron Man and nowhere else would make sense. I was like: I’m pretty confident over 90% moviegoers would give jacksh about that if by some 1/14m chance they are even aware of it. I’m just intrigued and glad at the same time there is no announcement of Jackie Chan involvement because I can’t stand that man.

They can just say Mandarin was in hiding when Tony Stark was alive. I would have preferred real Mandarin and Iron Man encounter but they just didn't want to do it. I consider them tied together but that was because the old cartoon and video games. I am not sure how much they are tied together in recent cartoons. Most may not even know, and the Disney shows will may introduce him Mandarin as Shang's main villain.

They've already got Donnie Yen and now Tony Leung, they don't need any more Chinese superstars imo. Just balance it out with solid unknown actors and they're good.

But they're not as internationally known on the same level as either Jet Li or Jackie Chan. Yen or Leung are more if you know Hong Kong cinema, and a lot of the world don't.

Tony Leung is a legend and that title is amazing. Not familiar with the guy playing Shang-Chi but I trust Marvel (when it comes to casting I do).

I can't help but think of all those MCU fans who spent so much time defending Iron Man 3's Mandarin. "The original is a racist caricature! He had to be changed!" And now we're getting the real Mandarin. :hehe:

Iron Man 3 is the worst of the MCU by far. Absolutely horrible film. A simple honest portrayal of Mandarin here can turn the character's GA perception easily.

I wonder if we could get an Iron Man 4. Since we're getting Black Widow, which is set around the time of post Civil War, we could easily get an Iron Man film set in the 5 years post snap. Maybe during that time he could go up against the real Mandarin. I don't know when Shang Chi is set, but they could set it at any time.

Otherwise it's sad that Tony Stark never got to go up against the real leader of the group that held him in captivity in 2008. It's something that he never was able to resolve.

At the moment I wouldn't mind RDJ making a cameo for a flashback to tie the Mandarin in with his character.

I wonder if we'll see any reference to All Hail the King and Trevor Slattery and how the real Mandarin is not happy.

I like Iron Man 3 a lot but the movie is far from perfect and I hated how dismissive certain people were towards fans who didn't like it and especially those disappointed by the Mandarin.

I still remember the meltdowns over All Hail the King. :hehe:

All Hail the King was a while ago now. I had given up hope we might see a more accurate Mandarin in the mcu.

I think the twist worked in Iron Man 3. Killian was just boring overall. But he will always be the villain of Iron Man 3 and the guy who fought Iron Man. Adding the real Mandarin doesn't change any of that. That said, I am glad that they're doing this and very excited to see him.

Personally, the main thing I care about is that they are finally continuing that old plot thread. I love when old plot threads are dug back up again.

Speaking of which....when the heck are we gonna get the Leader?

I just hope Awkwafina isn’t playing a Darcy like sidekick. It would be lazy casting.

I don't expect Awkwafina is playing a character like Darcy. More like Luis? Most likely. What would be a real surprise is if she's playing an actual character from the comics.

The first Canadian lead in a MCU film! As a fellow Chinese-Canadian, I can't be prouder. :ali:
