Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings General Discussion and Speculation thread

Marvel should have asked Sony to release the Spider-Man trailer earlier. The two weeks before Shang Chi release and everyone is talking about that instead of this movie.

Guy Pearce was amazing in my opinion. He was intimidating af.

At the time, I thought Pierce was just fine and did a good job as Killian. Strictly speaking, I still think that.

However, based on later information about how the movie was originally scripted? I can't watch it without clearly seeing how Maya Hansen was *supposed* to be the Big Bad, and would work better as the Big Bad thematically. Its just not something I can unsee.

I agree with ya. I still like Iron Man 3 more than most people probably but I just wish we we're able to see what the original intention for the movie was. I feel Maya would have been a much more fleshed out villain than Aldrich was.

Especially since "I was overlooked and ignored, but realized that this could be a source of power" works *much much better* as Maya's moment of villainous enlightenment than Killian's. Probably because, like much in the movie, it was a late stage rewrite.

Anyone feel like the NWH trailer stole all the hype from this movie?

Sure it did but at the same time I think Shang Chi could really benefit from it. NWH isn't coming out anytime soon and a lot of those guys will want their MCU thirst to be quenched, so Shang Chi will give them that.

I think it'll be like how Ant Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, and FFH all benefitted from the post and pre Infinity War/Endgame hype.

There's What If, Black Widow, and Loki for that, and that's just recent stuff.

They were stupid to do the world premiere so far in advance. Should have been this weekend. It’s hard to sustain any momentum for more than a couple of weeks.

All the red carpet premiers have been 2 or so weeks in advanced. This is no different.

Spider-Man is a worldwide top tier character with recognition that spans 60 years worth. No matter when the trailer got released it would be big news.

If Spider-Man or any Mcu trailer didn't get a splash to the public, there's something wrong.

I don't think it outshone Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings. Are the people planning to watch that film changed their mind when seeing trailer for Spider-Man No Way Home. Also Eternals will also come out first before Spider-Man No Way Home. Don't tell me they are going to skip two movies after getting eXcited for the trailer of Spider-Man No Way Home. If I were uninterested with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the trailer of Spider-Man No Way Home probably would have convinced to watch the other upcoming mcu films that will come out before Spider-Man No Way Home, as they are part of a cinematic universe.

With Wong being in both for a bit it shows a connection, Dr.Strange just get an extra huge push from Spider-Man. He had a great performance in Avenger movies, now Spider-Man right before his movie comes out.

Shang Chi being a Westcoast character may impact more of the Ant-Man and Black Panther since he opened that spot in Oakland. I think Val will make an appearance in Shang Chi regarding Abomination.

But What If is a cartoon series that has no impact on the MCU, Black Widow was 2 months ago and it was enjoyable but takes place in the past, Loki ended June so still a gap besides Kang I didn't think it would fulfill a lot of MCU need.

I haven't bothered with What if but I am assuming it is just fan service and nothing from it impacts movie. It may still be a good watch but for me I just don't have much interest in it, now if it was a video game form I would play it.

Based on some rumors for Multiverse of Madness, it seems a certain character from What If..? may pop up.

Okay if true I will probably check it out and if it is a significant add. It would really show the MCU connection if even the animated stuff could impact.

What If? is as skippable imo as Agents of Shield, Agent Carter and other live action shows that are already canceled.

I’ve been pretty bored with What If. I haven’t been looking forward to weekly episodes like I did with WandaVision, The Falcon & Winter Soldier, and Loki.
