That was weird.

I decided to go a third time.

Very good reaction from the audience. Some applause at the end (in my experience this is relatively unheard of in Aussie cinemas). Nothing but positive comments on the way out. Could hear multiple people crying in the third act.

Strange.

Both of my theater experienced got light applause but lots of chuckles and then sniffles.

But I can totally see where people didn't clap or whatnot. The film is serious, tonally dark and the ending is somber. It's not what you'll get from the typical feel good; fist pumping movie so most audiences will probably feel a little heavy in the heart. That's the way the movie is designed. Not everyone will like it. Most people want to be happy walking out.

I'm glad DC push ' s that envelop.

I'm going to go a third time as well soon. I think this is the most interesting thread on the forum right now. It tells a lot where the GA is heading. Different reactions from different crowds is a good thing. DC just doesn't go out if their way to put out instant crowd pleasers so I like hearing this stuff lol. It's fun.

Just heard feedback from 2 people who are not DC fans and prefer Marvel movies. One thought it was just okay and the other one tore it apart; hated it. Said Batman Forever and Ant Man were better and the JL introduction reminded him of the Amazing Spider Man franchise. Said it was lazy storytelling.

Another person on my FB feed didn't like it either, big Marvel fan. Said he's going to watch the Avengers to get this taint smell out of his mouth, but he did like Affleck.

Another Marvel fan on my feed really liked it and was surprised he did, but thinks CW will be better. Most of the other BvS I see on my social media outlets are positive.

A Batman friend of mine just FB'ED me. He liked it and said he likes where all of this is going, but likes TDKTRILOGY better so far overall. He likes Affleck a whole lot, though.

I think that's fair enough, I mean TDK trilogy is a trilogy I hold in high esteem but I think there are films I like more in the genre. But even so, like it or dislike it I think we can all agree TDK Trilogy is something special

Absolutely. No arguement there. The buddy above worried me. He was one of those fans who was too attached and didn't want to give a new Batman a chance, especially Affleck. He was down on the casting so for him to like it and really enjoy Affleck is a good thing coming from his types.

Its one of those things, I think sometimes when people say something is better but you don't agree you can't always argue or make a case either way. Its like a fair enough thing. If that makes sense lol

Yeah that is a good thing, tbh I haven't heard many say anything bad about Affleck.

Agreed. Even the scathing feedback I posted above and who hates this film did say he liked both Cavill and Affleck. He said Eisenberg needs to go back to theater school to learn how not to be an insufferable dbag lol.

Audience I was with last night seemed to like it. Cheers for Batman and Wonder Woman. They laughed at a lot of the dry humor.

Went on Thursday and Friday. The audience mix was about the same on both showings as were the reactions. A few chuckles during the one liners. A couple of gasps in certain areas. Big applause when Wonder Woman hit the scene both nights. Thursday had some light applause at the end but nothing on Friday. I've never been in a movie where there has been overwhelming crowd reaction so this was expected. Leaving the theatre both days I didn't really hear any negative remarks. The occasional "I didn't like this or I liked how", but nothing horrible.

The only annoying thing in my second viewing was some guy behind me said words like Kryptonite, Doomsday, Robin (costume), Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman etc when they appeared on screen for the first time. It was like yeah we know buddy.

Have a friend who's a huge Marvel fanboy. He is a massive Iron Man fan and said Man of Steel didn't do anything for him. Not because he thought it was bad, but because he just isn't into Superman. He told me a couple of days ago that he was going to see Batman V Superman, but that it had such bad reviews that he was not even looking forward to having to go and sit through it. He saw it last night and texted me afterwards...."I'm kind of aggravated at how much I enjoyed that movie...". Haven't had a chance to talk to him about it anyone further, but I thought his wording of his reaction was interesting.

I was around a group of about a half dozen people afterwards and all they kept saying was how 'dark' in tone the film was and how it was not what they were expecting.

Also most of the audience waited for an after credits scene and there was some slight moans of disappointment when they didnt get one

Just went last night. First I want to say, this was a very good movie, not great but very good. I don't care what critics are saying about it. As for reactions, the theatre I went to was a packed house and it seemed like everyone was enjoying the movie. I was surprised to hear a few sniffles of tears when ****** passed away, to me that meant the film did a good job by having his death an impact on the audience. The audience loudly clapped when Wonder Woman appeared, and the also the audience clapped loudly at the end of the movie. Overall it seemed like the audience enjoyed the movie, despite critics deterring people from going to see the movie and enjoy it.

Maybe it was just me but when Superman is getting the beatdown by Luthor's goons in Superman Returns made more of an emotional impact to me more than watching [blackout]Supes getting impaled by Doomsday,[/blackout] did anyone else feel that way?

Neither felt affecting tbh... In Superman Returns I was already irritated by the story, the stalker Superman, the waste of Spacey etc etc...
In B v S, the big throwdown spent more time on a light show and heroes being tossed away to convey the idea that all alternatives had been exhausted by Superman (even despite the nuke).. He jumped to the "we gotta kill him" option too soon...
.

Dead silence throughout the most of it. There were a couple mutterings of "B.S." and four or five people applauded when Wonder Woman showed up.

But as it ended... no, my theater didn't seem to like it. As I left the theater, I overheard a woman who saw it with her husband say the following:

"That movie was choppy, dreadful, and pretentious! I don't even like superheroes and I felt bad for people that do!"

People were talking to movie theater staff about it. "You're charging people to watch this?"

Crazy.

Not sure all that actually happened :o I'll say that it was quiet after the showing I saw. I couldn't hear if people were saying negative stuff, but didn't get the big applause. I do remember some were laughing when Superman was flying with the spear, I guess visually some felt it was silly.

I'm pretty sure that I'm not lying. Nice of you to insinuate that, btw.

In my first showing on Thursday the reaction, atleast as far as I could tell was pretty positive. I was probably one of the ones who enjoyed the film least. When we got out a lot of people were debating aspects of the film. Not like whether or not it was good, but was Bruce's dream meant and whether or not Superman was dead
Jokes were laughed at there Batman's action scene towards the end of the film was well recieved. Cheering for WW. Not much was said during the fight. I think it was one of those fights that a lot of fans thought they wanted, but didn't. Especially since there were atleast 20 people wearing Superman shirts while waiting in line and I only noticed a single Batman hoodie.
The second time there was laughing during the jokes, but less. Not as much clapping during scenes. I did notice this audience seemed to be more affected by Superman's death though. I noticed several people, one of them a big bald biker type of guy was crying. Though I'm sure some in here are going to tell me it was because the movie was bad. I don't know if they enjoyed the film less or if it was because it was a late showing and it was less crowded. I do know the people in my immediate vicinity seemed to like it a lot, minus one of my friends who gave it a six.

I called out certain scenes specifically so I put it in spoilers. As an aside a lot of people who were at the Thursday showing with me were fans of MoS. I mentioned it above in the spoiler box already but a lot of Superman shirts were there. When I brought it up to the closest one to me he brought up becoming a fan after MoS. The conversation kind of extended to other people but a lot of the viewers, especially in their twenties and teens didn't even like Superman until they watched MoS. One even said he had always been a Batman fan but converted after MoS. He didn't realize the character was so relatable before. It's a little off subject but I thought it was interesting.

Not a general audience reaction but I did go with my sister who is ultra casual

After the film I asked her if she liked it. She said, "I'm going to have to say...yes. I dont agree with the rotten tomatoes score of 31%. It should have been 60%. Its no worse then all the other action movies."

There you have it. She didnt like Man of Steel btw

I feel like no one knows how Rotten Tomatoes works...
I'll admit it's not that I don't understand I just hate having RT and Metacritic being the ultimate resource for movie reviews. I've gotten used to the thumbs up/thumbs down or the star rating.

And also why do just the opinions of the United States critics matter?
