Sharon's comic cold shoulder suit reminds of Emma Frost's suit.

Look at that face.. could she be any more thrilled to be in that movie?!

At least Portman was posing for a photo, from what I've see that's how January Jones' face always looks.

nah, she was perky, charming and adorable in Last Man on Earth (at least where I saw up to), didn't know she had it in her

I guess just playing a personality-deprived hot woman in a 60's setting makes her grumps
understandably

I would love to see that kind of scene in the movie :woot:

Steve and Sharon banter was so fun in vol.3 !

Which run is this from?

Also, is Sharon still presumed dead in the current run? I picked up issue 1 of Spencer's Sam Wilson Cap, and I love it. But wondering what they have in store for Sharon?

She was in Dimension Z and came back during the Sam as CA run.

Thanks, TR!

I need to catch up on that stuff on Marvel Unlimited. I kind of figured the uproar about fridging her was premature.

That never made any sense since it happened in Dimension Z and well you'd think people would have been more upset about them having her shoot Steve's child in the throat. :o

LOL true!

Since my son is also an Ian, that scene got to me. I thought Ian was still alive, though?

But this begs another question: why do they always have Sharon shooting Steve and/or people important to Steve?

Like, really, Cap writers?!?!

He was dead to Steve then voila we find out Sharon raised him and then he came back with Sharon as an adult (and she's aged in Dimension Z unlike Steve) and then he died again (I blame Sam) - maybe.

Steve needs new friends and a functioning serum. I'm tired of him being 95 yrs old. Though now they're having him lead the Uncanny Avengers because I guess he's good enough to lead them and not the regular Avengers or still be Cap ... for reasons. :loco:

I have to admit, since I missed most of the whackadoodle Remender run (I did like what I read...) that I don't, maybe, have all the background about Sam!Cap! that I should... But I really, really thought Spencer's first Sam Wilson issue was pretty great, specifically in the ways in which they explore the political/racial stuff with Sam becoming Cap. i don't want Steve sidelined for long, but I like this iteration of Sam Wilson for now...

(I'll just have to pretend someone else is playing him in the movies, after numerous WTFs from Anthony Mackie last week!)

I wish Marvel will at least make Steve Rogers young, but without his powers from the SS serum, and let him lead other SHIELD agents like Sharon Carter, Mockingbird, and Hawkeye as the Black Ops arm of SHIELD. Making him a 95 year old just to let Sam Wilson keep the title of Capt. America is rather lame.

I don't have to agree with Mackie's views to enjoy his acting.

Good for you. His views bug the **** out of me, but I'm not boycotting anything with him in it.

I'm just not searching for him anymore. That's all. He's a great actor who thinks and says stupid dumb things alot.

If you're wondering why Ian's death wasn't as upsetting it's probably because he was a character introduced by Remender only eight issues earlier and to a rather tepid response. And he was confirmed to still live before the same arc was over.

Meanwhile Sharon stayed dead for over a year. When she 'died' it was treated as being something terrible that happened to Steve, even by people who knew Sharon personally. That's textbook grudging.

Since she's been back she's been in two or three panels in two issues.

Incidentally she was brought back a few months after the massive internet outcry against Remender.

Sharon's been gone before for long stretches and presumed dead, so it wasn't new and I didn't doubt she'd be eventually be back. Everyone's been dead before and everyone but Uncle Ben has been back.

But Remender had her shoot Steve's child in the throat before she "died" and I think that was far more damaging to her character. Which is why when they undeaded her they tried to rehabilitate that by revealing she'd then raised him like his Mom.

Remender's fridging of her was overkill and made no sense because was I supposed to believe that Steve would be in more pain because Sharon died than because the child he'd raised for 11 years was dead and had incidentally been killed by Sharon. Come on.

Even in runs I've liked, Sharon's always seemed to be treated as a plot point of angst for Steve... Given just enough to build her up as Cap's love interest, and then have her fail (or the writing for her) fail Steve spectacularly. The only writer that I've read that seemed to do okay by her was Waid, and that was a while ago.

Honestly, I want the writers of the comics to treat her with some agency and power like Sam and Bucky have been treated with. She should be respected more than beyond a murder-fridging device for Steve. She could be an amazing character on her own, built up especially after this movie, but... Oh well. I'm at least glad that Marvel's increasing their books about women though. I just think a writer could do a bang-up job with a Sharon-centric mini. Maybe have her chase down something from one of Peggy's old missions.... Something that eluded her aunt, and really go in-depth onto her own childhood, her relationship with Peggy, her attraction to Cap, etc.

So are we to abolish the term and concept of fridging?

The last time it took seventeen years, until a different writer brought her back. Do we really to wait that long?

If you're saying that having Sharon shoot Ian was damaging to her, then yeah, and fans did find it objectionable.

They focused on the fridging because at least when a character does something heinous and stays alive, they can be redeamed.

I find fridging as pertains to women offensive not because it happens but when it's all female characters are set up and used for - when they have no purpose beyond being fridged.

But fridging is something that happens to male and female. Bucky was initially fridged for Steve. Uncle Ben as well as Gwen was fridged for Peter. Ian as well as Sharon was fridged for Steve. When Steve died wasn't that fridging for Tony, Bucky, Sharon, the Marvel universe at large etc? Character death is always used to elicit emotion, often for the loved ones left behind.

I think the biggest problem with Sharon as a character and how she's been used over the last decade is that her two major defining moments are 1) being brainwashed and pumping multiple bullets into Steve's chest to "kill" him and 2) shooting Ian in the throat and "killing" a child. Her relationship with Steve is currently like a bad country song and she doesn't have much to do outside her relationship with Steve.

Now that she's been aged up courtesy of her years in Dimension Z it will be an interesting age reverse when Steve is eventually de-serumed (because he needs to be or otherwise he's going to die soon - he's freaking 95!) and younger than her.

As Suzanne said in order to revive the character she probably needs some kind of solo adventure.

I hate the term fridging. I don't think it adds any value- I think "killed off" does the job adequately. "Fridging" reminds me of tumblr users who declare certain storylines "gross"- basically passing judgement on something using too few words for a valid discussion.

Fridging is fair, though, when discussing whether a specific female character's purpose is only to serve giving the man angst, either in death or life, and she's given little to no agency or purpose outside the plot herself. And I don't blame Sharon Carter -- it's the writers' faults for not figuring out how to make her a better, more developed character outside of the angst her death(s) and/or betrayals give Steve Rogers. Killing off characters is a normal narrative trope, but fridging is a particular insidious development that is specific mainly to females.

Like I said, her character really could do with a reboot. A small reboot, or at least a more thorough examination in a mini-series form, one that could turn into an ongoing if written well.
