Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

If Dwayne Johnson is in the film, they'd be foolish not to use him in the marketing unless it's just a post-credits cameo.

Then again, if he keeps making bombs like Skyscraper and Baywatch, maybe they shouldn't, lol.

For every Skyscraper he does, he gives us Jumanji :oldrazz:

Don't forget about the most iconic singers/actors of the 90s...

OMG how did I forget that one? Days of 10 y/o girls dance like Spice Girls shirtless in their sport bras during Lip Sync

Could be, or ^ (bottom left panel) just a fun nod to the crazy SHAZAM glifs, on in the original train.
I agree that train should totally read like a horror movie, wish they had gone a bit further with it, and had it transform a bit more, but I like the way they pulled it off with the sign, and windows frosting over.

Although it's hard to tell from the trailer, I do hope we see the 7 Deadly Sin effigies at the Rock of Eternity.

I hope the Seven Sins are in this in some capacity.

They'd be great to see, both visually and an opportunity to cast some great character actors, who could really play up these roles, to hysterical effect.
Thing is these seven would be such eccentric personalities, if they'd been cast we'd likely know about it.

I almost wish they could pull off this level of "secret" casting , so we could be surprised by their appearance.

Unlikely as it may be there is the possibility that they could mocap the characters and get the VO cast later. Again... Unlikely but possible.

... mocap the characters and get the VO cast later.

As outrageous as they look, several do still have very human faces, and bodies, I imagine they'd want more than just VO, best would be having the actual actors delivering all the facial expressions and mannerisms too.
And then a mix of actual actor performance and expressions, enhanced with CG, and mocap performance.

But I guess they could have started with CG template first, and insert the (still un cast) actors performance later?
Hence we haven't heard any casting for them? Is that what you are suggesting?
Either way, I'd love to see them, if not here, hopefully for a sequel, cause these characters do have great potential.
I love the updated look for them.

There is so much yet unmined potential in the Fawcett universe.

Yeah. Pretty much. It's been done in the past. Doug Jones did the mocap for Silver Surfer and then Fishburne did the VO. Again though... I think it's unlikely if only because I don't think this film has that level of budget. I would be happy if they showed the Sins still captive at the Rock just so they are established and could be used later.

The trailer was quite bare bones despite most enjoying what was shown so I am sure there are more surprises in store once we actually see the movie.

They really didn't show anything in that trailer that we hadn't seen in BTS and official pics for the most part.

For sure they didn't have a lot to show us that included SFX one would expect to be showcased in a trailer.

That's pretty good. Then the cure is Billy sharing the power which turns them into the Lt. Marvels.

In DC's New 52 comics, Doctor Sivana gets his powers when (from Wikipedia)

In September 2011, The New 52 rebooted DC's continuity. In this new timeline, Doctor Sivana first appears in Justice League #7, depicted as a respected scientist desperate to save his family from an unknown plight. With science having failed him, he turns to magic (specifically the legend of Black Adam).[9] Dr. Sivana's team finds what he believes to be the tomb of Black Adam; while attempting to open it, the scientist is half-blinded by magical lightning to the face (which has the side-effect of letting him see magic).[10]
But Shazam wizard gave Black Adam his powers from a different source, that is Egyptian gods.
S for the stamina of Shu
H for the swiftness of Heru
A for the strength of Amon
Z for the wisdom of Zehuti
A for the power of Aton
M for the courage of Mehen

In New 52, version
Sivana mentions that Black Adam was a slave who was teleported from his prison cell to the Rock of Eternity and granted his powers by the wizard. Adam then went on to save Kahndaq from the Seven Deadly Sins before vanishing.

That^ was a later retcon, there has been some discrepancy and revisionist retconing from the original.
I don't see that there's any conflict.
He could have later channeled those later deities to regain power.
He was still a previous champion of the Wizard, which is what maters.
His original hero name was Mighty Adam, and he was consumed by power.
Refusing to ever revert back to his original form, and we all know where that led him.

Which deities he channels, really doesn't change much either way.

Just because that is the original doesnt mean that is what they are using. The New 52 version seems to be what they are using so that is more relevant than the old story.

The original (posted above) makes no mention of those other deities, when saying SHAZAM, the implication for Adam was the classic deities same as Billy.
And Johns' and Franks 52 reboot makes no mention of those other deities either.
That's my point.

What Micromind is referencing, was a retcon. That can easily be ignored.

It can be but it doesnt mean it will be.

Yeah, if they are making a Black Adam movie, then the whole back story of Black Adam as a slave in Egypt and getting his powers from Egyptian gods will be addressed.

The wizard just channelizes those powers from various deities into BA / Shazam.

I wonder, no pun, if there will be references to the story of how the Olympian gods fell as we learned about in Wonder Woman?

So Black Adam will be another Dwayne Johnson Egyptian movie? Interesting

I have no idea what you guys are talking about but it sounds new and rich, hopefully all these play out in a franchise and make people fall in love with it

So who will play the Rock pre wizard or will they Steve Rogers him like they did with Chris Evans. That would be weird to see but cool.

I'm not sure that's a necessity. Teth Adam would have been living in a time of warring kingdoms etc. I think, but don't quote me, that he's usually been portrayed in modern tellings as a warrior king in his own right even before the Wizard granted him power. So Dwayne would fit the mold of that easily. Like, think of the Scorpion King. That's Adam back in the day pretty much.

Adam did have another ID, a mortal whose body he inhabited sort of as well who transformed into Adam's body but wasn't like the modern Shazam/Capt Marvel where Billy is in control and is the personality. But that guy didn't look like Adam per se, though with some comic art that's sometimes hard to make out.

Yeah, I prefer the version given in DC Comics' New 52, which is (from Wiki) -
In Black Adam's subsequent pursuit of Shazam, Billy is shown the beginning of Black Adam's origin. It centers around the story of Aman, a Kahndaqi boy who was thrust into abuse and slavery long ago. Thinking that he can surely relate and connect with another boy who has suffered like he has, Billy (without hearing the rest of the tale) rushes to Black Adam and tries to reason with him. To his surprise, Black Adam simply grabs him and tells him he "knows nothing".[20] Black Adam shows Billy the rest of his origin, which reveals that Aman had an uncle (who helped Aman escape slavery), whose name was Adam.

Adam was injured during their escape, and when Aman was chosen by the wizard to be his champion, Aman shared his power with Adam to heal him. Afterwards, although Aman wanted to use his new power to help his people and cure his former slavemasters of their evil souls, Adam only sought vengeance against those who had enslaved them. To this end, when Aman called down the lightning, Adam seemingly killed Aman so that he himself was the sole recipient of the power.

However, the details of Aman's "death" are not shown, leaving his fate open to speculation. Black Adam refers to Aman's "sacrifice", and tells Billy that he will go to any lengths to "free this world from those who enslave it
This explains why Adam never changes back to his original non-superpowered form, as in absence of Aman, he would never get to his super-powered self ('Black Adam') and would become as simple human, which in present day would age rapidly and turn to dust.

I a have a question, someone on TVTropes said that a character from Light's Out will make an appearance in this film, making that film part of the DCEU. is there any truth to that??

I think I saw a comment that said the social worker that was talking to Billy about his adoptive family is supposed to be the same character from Lights Out. But I looked on IMDB and there is an actress that was in both Shazam and Lights Out but they have different names that they are credited for. Also there is an actress credited as Billy's mom and an actor credited as a younger Billy. So I guess there will be a Baby Driver style flashback showing how Billy became an orphan.

Dwayne well Rock I can see him showing up in the post-credits assuming Shazam has one then he will for sure be there to build up his appearance within the DCEU well Worlds of DC as it is called now
