Gamora's exclusion was bizarre, but the AoU merchandise was odd as well for a range of characters. The main four always appeared, but it was hit and miss whether we got Hawkeye, BW, Vision, SW or QS.

It will be interesting to see the sales figures for toys that are specifically aimed at younger males if they include female characters. At the moment there is no data and its just speculation by fans that younger girls will buy these. But other merchandise aimed at a wider audience (e.g. Funko Pops) will include a wider range of characters without a doubt which is great.

I'm pretty sure Disney, Marvel and all the manufacturers and retailers have loads of data that the general public and the media do not have access to. :cwink: Though there are reports and articles from Forbes, Bloomberg, HR and Variety discussing the explosion of Avengers merchandise and which characters sell the most. Even among the main four there's a hierarchy and a different amount and variety of merchandise because of retail patterns. Individually, Iron Man and Captain America outsell the others by a significant margin, then the Hulk and then well behind him is Thor.

I'd assume though that Black Widow merchandise would be a popular seller over Hawkeye, SW, QS and The Vision though popularity can change with AOU. There was certainly more outcry over her missing from merchandise than any of those others so that property looks ripe for expanded product lines.

I think the biggest sellers for GOTG were Groot and Rocket with Peter a distant third. But Gamora merchandise should probably sell better or at worst as well as Drax so the lack of it was pretty glaring.

But we don't know what products didn't sell or were left on the shelves to be sent back to manufacturers and which ones came up short in supply for the demand. They know and as a business one would think they'd adjust accordingly.

I must admit that stereotyping is a pet hate of mine and the recent claims that all female fans want a specific product is annoying. But I do hate when a great T-shirt design is offered to guys but the ladies shirt is changed and is usually pink. Urggh! :whatever:

The stereotyping is annoying. I never buy ladies t-shirts because the colors are more fit for an 8 year old than a grown woman. And just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I'd only want a female character on my t-shirt. Just as I assume there are many male fans who'd love a BW, SW or Gamora T-Shirt.

I loathe the pastel pinks or blues that many women's shirts come in... I do like that some sites like WeLoveFine sell both ladies' and men's shirts, but only change the sizing/fit.

I know what you mean. Some ladies t-shirts should be re-labelled as they are not designed with women in mind. If we don't get a range of ladies t-shirts with Cap, Black Panther, Falcon etc. because some very vocal fans wanted Black Widow I will be annoyed. Just offer everyone a nice range of choices and we will be happy. Also, more colours than bloody pink!

I don't know I think women looks pretty in pink, of course I love them more in red with a little bit of a dark side to them to be honest.

What's in September?

Well if I say it I hope no one gets mad if I say it promise? anyway in September Disney will be releasing TFA action figures in stores. Now in the movie the main character is a female name Rey, the film will be focus on her now Hasbro makes the toys right? so she will most likely get the most marketing besides Kylo he's the villain. In other words the toys will most likely be targeted at both boys/girls the sales for Rey figures could go up since she's the main character, the hero, if that were to happen Hasbro may make more female Marvel stuff. Also let's not forget about Captain Marvel main female character, call me crazy but I just got a really good feeling about this, I like to stay positive. :woot:

Okay, how much was she? she did look amazing... Might put it on my Christmas wish list!

I want a cool t-shirt with SW on it!

She was like, $220? Ish? The glowing hands were done so well I had to snap her up.

Oh man, I'd love a SW t-shirt!

What? that is way too much for a action figure, I just keep on buying Hasbro action figures. I rather spend that kind of money on food/bills.

Clearly you've never owned a Hot Toys figure or seen one in person. They are incredibly detailed and made with very high-quality materials.

I seen pictures of them I don't care if there high-quality, to me that is way too much the price for one of them could pay a power bill, or pay for some food. I just don't have that kind of money for one of those action figures.

Ok, well, some of us do have the disposable income to purchase collectibles. Live and let live.

Well then I'm happy for you guys, :yay: off topic just check the box office records JW is the number 1 movie in the movies right now. :woot: You go Pratt! I hope he has a big role in IW, back on topic what movie is Olsen filming after this one?

I'd love to get some kind of figure of her in her new costume (the one at the end of the film).

The thing is, I've seen lots of "team shots" on various products that just exclude the female character. And it's dumb. Do they really think that boys won't buy a lunchbox, or poster, of T-shirt, or whatever that has the Avengers/GOTG TEAM on it, simply because BW/Gamora are on it (because you know, they're on those teams as well). It's just bizarre.

And then there's crap like taking one of BW's coolest moments in AOU (the motorcycle scene) and changing it to Cap in the toys.

There's a better chance for Nat and Wanda to be in group shots this time I think, since they still mentioned the Avengers playing heavily into the merchandising.

This time they don't have their "Big 4" to hinge everything on so there's less reason not to include the women.

I notice though when some people complain about BW not being in "team" shots they never notice that Hawkeye isn't there either. Poor Hawkeye. Ignored even in his absence.

I expect the merchandise for this movie to be #1- Captain America, #2 - Iron Man and then # 3 - Captain America vs Iron Man. Then team shots and team vs team shots and then individual stuff for supporting players and cameos.

I've seen some people complain about Hawkeye but even then he's generally made out a lot better on the toy front than any of the women, IIRC. Even in the non-movie lines like Avengers Assemble there's a lot of Hawkeye stuff. The only white guy hero who really got screwed in AOU's merchandising was Quicksilver, who got basically nothing.

I'd love to get some kind of figure of her in her new costume (the one at the end of the film).

Hopefully with Mark Ruffalo calling them out and more attention being paid to it now, things will be different with Civil War.

Yeah I've scene Hawkeye in MORE "team shots" than BW, even if he isn't as prominent as the "Big Four." And even he's made out better merchandising-wise than BW/SW have. It'll be really interesting to see what happens once the Captain Marvel movies comes out. It'll be kind of hard to justify excluding Carol from the marketing/merchandise from what is supposed to be HER FILM!! And if they, say minimize the merchandising for that movie, well then that'll just make the double-standard all the more obvious.

They could just make a bunch of Mar-Vell figures! :P

I don't recall seeing any team shots (basically the Big Four) that had Hawkeye in them rather than BW and I've seen less merchandise with him than BW but then I don't go looking for Hawkeye stuff (sorry Hawkguy).

Regarding toys though I could see why there would less a variety for BW. She has stingers which frankly are not as cool or as easy to translate into toys as the accessories the others have - even Hawkguy. Though SW and QS are even more lacking in that regard. I wonder if that's why they gave her batons for AOU - so they'd have something to sell beside stingers. [the garotte is out of the question] But then they turn around and give her motorcycle to Cap in Lego so maybe not.

BW appeared much more than Hawkeye, but this has been conveniently ignored. SW didn't get included much either and poor QS has been ignored completely. Nothing to do with gender - just character popularity and business decisions.

At the end of the day its about choice and availability. The best we can hope for is that sufficient choice is provided so everyone can get something with their favourite character. Anyone expecting BW or SW to be included in every merchandise line is going to be disappointed. This will be due to the business decisions of the companies producing this stuff and Cap and IM being centre stage.

Since Vision is in this I hope the directors continue the eye flirtations Wanda was giving Vision in AoU.

I know it's cannon and alot of people like the pairing but I don't want to see Vision/Wanda. Bettany and Olsen's age difference, plus the fact that he's not human just make it a pairing I don't want to see. Maybe I'd feel different if I grew up reading the comics they were in together but going by this incarnation I think it's an awkward pairing that I have no interest in seeing.

Well, they are both weird, so why not?

Your not the only one :woot: really Vision/Wanda isn't mains characters like the big 4 they can be killed off, and I don't think they will be in the Age of Pratt outer space is the endgame come and get your love. :ilv:
