Should it still be called a racial slur?

Yea it's double standards.

"NO!!! You can't call a black person a ******!! But it's perfectly acceptable if a black person calls you a cracker!!"

Exactly. Stuff like that shouldn't be tolerated because it's racism.

um..its NEVER acceptable if a black person calls you a cracker. words against both sides should never be used.

Cracker is a term for the "crack" of the whip, basically calling me a slavedriving bastard.

****** is a term that near as we can tell is based on the color of a person's skin.

Historically speaking? Which one is worse? Doesn't matter because there's only 1 of them that's going to be blacked out and beeped out and censored and made a fuss over.

calling you a slavedriving bastard is bad. but think about it, which was worse at the time? being the slavedriving bastard or being the actual slave?

this is why if you had to compare the two and pick which was worse the answer is easy. but that doesnt mean any of the words are right to say.

Are you seriously offended if someone calls you a cracker?

well people shouldn't have to like it. most people would be offended by it. the only time a person would laugh it off is if one of the wannabe white-chocolate guys said it against them ha ha

So tell me why it's national news when Kramer says the N-word but Dave Chapelle can say cracker all he wants?

This isn't that time though.

It's easy to compare the two? So you're saying that being called a ****** is better or worse than being called a cracker? That is RACISM.

He means a ****** lover.

i think mostly because there is an obvious difference between the manner the two people were using them. kramer was clearly being malicious about it. chapelle uses that term light heartedly as part of a comedy routine, people know its just a joke (thats not me condoning it, just saying). but i think whats clear is there's a bias, not only in the media, but in the general public. most people dont equate cracker as a racial slur, or at least nothing like they do with n***er.

I don't think a white comedian trying to jokingly use n***** would go over very well.

It just has far worse connotations to me then cracker does. Cracker, to me, just sounds like a dumb insult. I get its' origins, but the word is not offensive to me.

To be fair, a lot of white actors in comedy have gotten away with saying it, but no one ever brings it up. Shaun of the Dead, Ed says it, Clerks 2, Randall gets away with it, and there are a few more where it's done in such a way that it ain't malicious. Those times most people overlook because they're not calling someone a ****** in a hateful manner.

Over the source of a single sentence, no less.

It's disrespectful to the memory of any african american slave. Don't use. My black friends were calling me the N-word and I told them to stop, they asked why and I told them and eventually they stopped too.

Yes the N-word is a racial slur...I can't believe anybody would ask this question. Ofcourse it freakin is!

And you may not like it and see it as a double standered but if you are white you shouldn't be refering to any black person as the N-word. End of Story. I'm not saying that black people should use the word but they have more rights to it than white people because um....SLAVERY!

And the general oppression that still thrives to this day. Saying it's not as bad as some black people think, still doesn't change the fact that it is real.

no, i agree,a white person using the word during a stand up comedy routine probably wouldnt go over too well (depending on how its used). which is why i included my second point regarding the social bias between the two words. i think there is a general belief that you cant be racist against a white person. or white people arent allowed to be offended by racism. i dunno, its weird.

I'm not saying that black people should use the word but they have more rights to it than white people because um....SLAVERY!
thats ******ed logic.

^No it isn't. It was a word used by white people to insult inslaved black people. Then semi freed black people. And it's still used to this day as an insult to black people from racist white people and other races to be fair.

If a black man calls you a cracker, you can call him a ******.

If a white man calls you a ******, you can beat the **** out of him.

:hehe:

Honestly, I'd be shocked if a white person (or a person of any other race) called me the N-word to my face.

and why does that give black people today more of a "right" to use it? so far, you've only given more reason as to why black people, more than anyone, shouldnt want to use it. a black man being enslaved over a hundred years ago does not afford a black man today, who was not enslaved, any right to be racist. i mean, by that logic, i should be apologizing to black people because white dudes from over a hundred years ago enslaved black people from over a hundred years ago.

If a black man calls you a cracker, you can call him a ******.

If a white man calls you a ******, you can beat the **** out of him.

this is also stupid logic. a black man calling a white dude a cracker, does not afford the white person any legit reason to call him a n**er. also, responding to a slur with violence is not justified either.

It's a bad word. Stop saying it or I'll tell my mom on you.

To the white people in this thread asking why they can't say the N-word, I gotta ask:

For what purpose do you intend to use it? Or do you have no intention on using it, and you're arguing because of the principle of the thing? Because if it's about principle, you should know that pretty much no one should be allowed to use that word, and the African-American community dies a little inside every time one of us uses it.

I don't believe it's perfectly acceptable if a black person calls a white guy a cracker....because I believe that trying to belittle and offend anyone of any race by calling them a name that is purposefully meant to offend them is a wrong thing to do.

I'm talking about society as a whole. You can't deny that what I say is true, no one can.

In your original post, you didn't specify that you were speaking generaly of society. You made it sound like that was YOUR opinion. And if it is your opinion that it is perfectly acceptable to call a white person a name that is specificly meant to be offensive to him....then you can't deny that you have racist tendancies.

The point of my post was simple....no one should think that it is perfectly acceptable to call anyone a name that is meant to be offensive to them.

Now....do I think that most of the world's populace will anytime soon stop hating the person next door....no. But it would be nice if today's younger generation at least tried to stop the hatred from continuing. And a good way to do so is to stop calling other people derogatory names.

Wha...?!?! How could anyone think I meant what was said in the "qoute"? That was my comment on how society is, I thought that was clear. I think any form of racial abuse is disgusting, I was just pointing out that in society a white person calling a black person a ****** is deemed much worse than a black person calling a white person a cracker. Is that right? No of course not. But is it true? Yes, yes it is.
