Cracker is a term for the "crack" of the whip, basically calling me a slavedriving bastard.

****** is a term that near as we can tell is based on the color of a person's skin.

Historically speaking? Which one is worse? Doesn't matter because there's only 1 of them that's going to be blacked out and beeped out and censored and made a fuss over.

i think mostly because there is an obvious difference between the manner the two people were using them. kramer was clearly being malicious about it. chapelle uses that term light heartedly as part of a comedy routine, people know its just a joke (thats not me condoning it, just saying). but i think whats clear is there's a bias, not only in the media, but in the general public. most people dont equate cracker as a racial slur, or at least nothing like they do with n***er.

To be fair, a lot of white actors in comedy have gotten away with saying it, but no one ever brings it up. Shaun of the Dead, Ed says it, Clerks 2, Randall gets away with it, and there are a few more where it's done in such a way that it ain't malicious. Those times most people overlook because they're not calling someone a ****** in a hateful manner.

no, i agree,a white person using the word during a stand up comedy routine probably wouldnt go over too well (depending on how its used). which is why i included my second point regarding the social bias between the two words. i think there is a general belief that you cant be racist against a white person. or white people arent allowed to be offended by racism. i dunno, its weird.

and why does that give black people today more of a "right" to use it? so far, you've only given more reason as to why black people, more than anyone, shouldnt want to use it. a black man being enslaved over a hundred years ago does not afford a black man today, who was not enslaved, any right to be racist. i mean, by that logic, i should be apologizing to black people because white dudes from over a hundred years ago enslaved black people from over a hundred years ago.

For what purpose do you intend to use it? Or do you have no intention on using it, and you're arguing because of the principle of the thing? In your original post, you didn't specify that you were speaking generaly of society. You made it sound like that was YOUR opinion. And if it is your opinion that it is perfectly acceptable to call a white person a name that is specificly meant to be offensive to him....then you can't deny that you have racist tendancies.

The point of my post was simple....no one should think that it is perfectly acceptable to call anyone a name that is meant to be offensive to them.

Now....do I think that most of the world's populace will anytime soon stop hating the person next door....no. But it would be nice if today's younger generation at least tried to stop the hatred from continuing. And a good way to do so is to stop calling other people derogatory names.

I think any form of racial abuse is disgusting, I was just pointing out that in society a white person calling a black person a ****** is deemed much worse than a black person calling a white person a cracker.
