Should Luke Cage get his own on-going?

Yeah I just realized that it said Wonderman. I didn't read the entire word. I just saw the first two letters, and I already pressumed it to say Wolverine.
Speaking of Tossing Wolverine,....

He needs a serious butt-whooping.

I'm sorry,.. but no matter how sharp his claws,.. unless we are talking a one molecule thick edge,.. he's not piercing anyone with invulnerability..... and if he does,.. He's gonna get stuck.

I mean,.. based on his feats,.... Wolverine has Super Speed, He has Super Strength, He has SERIOUS durability BEFORE you get to his Healing Factor now mutated into 100% regeneration.

His fighting skills are so inconsistant as to be irritating to even the casual reader.

EVERYTHING he's supposidly been thru should produce a better fighter WITHOUT CLAWS than Captain America.

Ain't happening.

He needs to be beat down decicively so that he can legitimately hesitate when facing a Namor,.. or a Thing.

TSK.

I'm going to say it, even though it doesn't belong on this thread,.. or on this board:
IMPO the reason why the Panthers sales are ALWAYS so low is that it steps on too many toes to consider that a Black man can out prep time their favorites, out money or out tech their favorites, in too many cases out fight their favs,... all who happen to be white,..

It doesn't matter if it's understated,.. or not drawn overly into the Marvel Mainstream - just think back to the howling when BP beat Captain America,... or when BP beat Iron Man THREE TIMES in THREE FIGHTS that Tony Stark STARTED.

Tack onto that that the character is difficult to relate to with a large portion of the reader base being able to suspend belief on Norse Gods and InHumans on the moon,.. but these same readers goggle and argue that an african nation made up of high tech black folk can't exist in any world,....

For some strange reason,... it's not palatable for the majority of readers that someone they can't relate to can do what the panther can,.... and he's what would be classed a "street-level" hero.

All that Keeps the Black Panther from taking off.

Luke Cage is relatable IMPO because the character resonates with those who are lower middleclass to upper middle class, who have Blue and white collar level jobs, who tend to prefer to want to do the right thing regardless of what the concequences may be.

In my mind his closest equiv on the white side remains Ben Grimm,.... followed by Captain America.
(Waiting for the flaming to begin.)

Man Varient. That's pretty impressive.

I don't know, I kinda wish he was in the 95 ton range. I mean, him suddenly being able to shoot lasers out of his eyes would be stupid, but he should at least be as strong as the other strong and durable guys.

Agreed. The only thing that permits Cage to be easily dismissed as a real player in the marvel universe is the fact he has been limited to marginally higher than street level abilities. Adequately powered he doesn't have to be liked but he would damm well be respected.

He's already respected, isn't he? He's a lot stronger now than he was to begin with, too. I wouldn't want to see him all the way up at the 90-100+ range, myself. I don't want to see "super-strong" become synonymous with "mountain-juggling." I'd say around class 50 or 60 should be the highest he gets to.

It is litereally nothing to voice an opinion here.

I find myself on this particular soap box more and more often as people tear down w/o realizing how far these two have come as far as viable characters.

Seriously,... Leave color out of it and leave me my Squirrel girl one shots and you won't hear my opinion.

Dismiss Cage as an "Uncle Tom" because he married a white woman and slam the panther cause you don't personally believe blacks could pick up a screw driver let alone have a wakanda,...

And make yourself have to scroll past pages of my irritation with you.

Sigh,.. Sorry corp,.. almost went off again,....

You said soap box. Huey Freeman couldn't have said it better (yes I meant Freeman not Newton).

What are you apologizing to me for? Ranting about race is a perfectly acceptable hobby in my book.

Hey he's a real intelligent ten your old, who just so happens to voice the opinions of a man in his late twenties. These children characters in comic strips seem to be awesome vehicles of insight...just like Calvin & Hobbes. But Huey is easily the Calvin of the new generation.

He survived a fall from several stories without a scratch. Yeah obviously he needs more strenth.

Having an unbreakable body (or unbreakable skin as it is more often phrased) doesn't mean he is too over powered. He seems to only have roughly Spider-Man (class 10) level strength. Spidey's strength appears underwhelming all the time (considering how hard he hits some foes, with no effect). But at least he has other powers. Luke Cage is the basic Superman analogue. They might as well give him some sort of boost.

I already corrected my statement, because on the Superhuman scale of things, Beast is pretty weak (I think maybe 3 tons, which is what each of Doc Ock's arms can press). So I altered my statement, be more on par with Spider-Man...which in the grand scheme of things, is still dwarfed by the likes of Strong Guy, Juggernaut, Thor, Hulk, Colossus, The Thing etc etc.

?
Mr Immortal or Wolverine could survive a fall from that height (with scratches),...
How does that equal strength?

On the real,...I wasn't going to address it because he has survived falls from 30,000 feet,....

He still appears to be on the light side of 25 ton strength on average.
I wouldn't mind if he were stronger,.. I'd like more "I don't think so" moments with Cage giving the smackdown like he did with Osborn.

Who's that? Luquishia Cage?
I wish.

It's from an old What If,... There were Wonder Woman and Power Girl in the Marvel Universe.

Luke Cage is a severly underestimated character. He is no Batman, but he is a fairly capable detective and he can speak multiple languages. I think too many writers get caught up in the "black and street wise" image, and tend to revert him to the idea of blaxploitation, rather than capitalizing on a really terrific character.

I don't see what the big deal is. Not every strongman character gets to hang with the likes of Thor and the Hulk. They're the best of the best, and they have actual reasons to be up in that strength class. Luke's proven himself very capable and badass with the powers he has. Upping him to the top tier of strength at this point would strike me as Marvel going, "Look, a black guy who's as strong as the Hulk! We deserve a pat on the being for being oh-so-progressive!" It's self-important. The character's never been about uprooting skyscrapers or anything. He's a street-level brawler, and his strength is already practically in the stratosphere compared to just about everyone else at that level.

Oh yeah, I read that What If. There were some funny bits in there.

He's easily stronger than Peter. people like the green goblin and the rhino were never a real problem for Luke,... and he doesn't have webbing,..........

Or the ability to bounce around and avoid everything they throw at him with minor precognition. The fact that he's taken down those types of guys by standing his ground and straight-up brawling has to mean that his strength level has gone way up, regardless of what those outdated Handbooks say. I'd say he's at least class 30 to 50 by now and, again, that's way more than the vast majority of street-level heroes have.
