Should Marvel Studios Consult with Fan Favorite Writers on Scripts and Screenplays?

More comics writers need to be brought in for the movie scripts-- go straight to the source..

Not so much from them because they are the soup of the day....but imagine a Hulk script written by Peter David and Greg Pak; an Iron Man Script by Bob Layton and David Michelinie; Captain America by Ed Brubaker; Daredevil by Frank Miller; X-Men by Chris Claremont; etc....

Imagine them being involved in the casting...

Actually, I would love to see one (or more) of the iconic writers being heavily involved in writing a film adaptation of one of their iconic stories.

While the Avengers movie and the Iron Man movies were really good, I would still like to see a great adaptation of an iconic story because, I was disappointed with X2 and X3.

Chris Claremont actually studied acting in college. According to old interviews he wanted to be an actor and originally just intended on writing Uncanny X-Men temporarily. So, he might be able to write a movie script. Though, he might need a co-writer to tweak it. But, imagine a much more faithful adaption of the Dark Phoenix Saga, or, an adaption of the Mutant Massacre storyline.

I would also love to see a Giffen and DeMatteis style Justice League America/International movie. Their Despero storyline from JLA #38-#42 could work for a movie. It shows them (Giffen and DeMatteis) at their most serious, but, at the same time has some of the funniest moments from their run. Also, the news story intro from issue #38 could be used to create an abbreviated (and very funny) intro to the characters.

J. M. DeMatteis has actual television script writing experience. He wrote for The Real Ghostbusters and other shows.

His X-2 and X-3 novelizations were among his best work in the past 10 years. They were much better than the movies, imo.

Screenplay and Scripts are usually tweaked by directors anyway..and I have faith that Marvel Studio's would not let any trash get by.

Marvel does consult with the writers already. JMS and Simonson consulted on Thor. Fraction and Bendis consulted on Iron Man. Brubaker consulted on Captain America.

It's a good thing, as long as it doesn't end up like Green Lantern where Geoff Johns had way too much power during the scripts developments and re-writes.

I have a feeling that Johns had very little power honestly. The man already wrote an origin wrote a much better origin story. I think the WB let him get a quick look at some pictures and that's it. They probably pitched the Oa scene and the ending.

I think Marvel is fine where they are but I think unlike the Wb, they really want to deliver the marvel experience. When you got them trying to perfect Thor's hammer......I think we are on the right track.


Directors need to work with the screen writers and comic book writers though. Again Green Lantern seems like they made a script and gave it to someone who probably didn't know who Green Lantern was.
Marvel I think has been better at letting the directors make the project personal with Whedon possibly being more hands on.

Eh, I still think Johns was the invisible hand behind Green Lantern's failure. *Somebody* thought it was a good idea to throw the cheesiest possible interpretation of the color spectrum into the movie, and since his last several years of GL comics have all focused on the emotional rainbow, I think he's the biggest suspect.

^ I don't think GL's movie failure had anything whatsoever to do wit the many different rings and emotional rainbow color counterparts. The movie sucked on so many other levels.
