Although I feel somewhat confident about a renewal happening. What are the chances of AoS shifting to Netflix should ABC brain fart for some ungodly reason?

Even if it isn't they have options. They can do Netflix, or do a film, or simply fold the show into the other Marvel films (Like Black Widow they can be some other hero's supporting cast maybe in Captain America 3)

Unlike Whedon's other cancelled shows who's rights were held hostage afterwords Marvel owns the rights, and Marvel has lots of options.

No way does ABC not bring back AoS next season.

1. Marvel = Disney = ABC. Even if the ratings took a dip for a while, because Marvel is part of the ABC family, ABC can afford to float them a bit. Might be in a different timeslot.

2. Between the trending Cap 2, and the trending AoS shockers, they will see a ratings jump over the coming weeks. It's a whole new universe, and we just got off on a good foot. ABC has to recognize that.

3. Age of Ultron hits next year. You think ABC is going to walk away from the chance for another mega event like "Uprising" and all the ratings sweetness that would bring to the table?

I feel very comfortable with AoS position right now. It might have been a bit precarious before, but after the grand slam episode this past week, I think it's smooth sailing right into Season 2.

I think alot of it is timing....moving the time...or another day of the week might help the raitings

1. While this is correct Disney is not necessarily in the business of wasting money if the return isn't there. This show is expensive and its ratings don't really pay for it right now, it needs an uptick in viewers to stay on the air whether it's in the ABC family or not.

2. ABC doesn't have to recognize anything except the bottom line and right now advertises are flocking to The Blacklist over this because it pulls in better ratings. Furthermore this episode didn't bring in extra viewers at all. https://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/tv-news/why-isn-t--agents-of-s-h-i-e-l-d---a--bigger--hit-011858737.html

3. Age of Ultron is going to be huge without AOS just as much as it would be with it.

With all this said I think it gets a second season but I would rather it be with the quality we have just experienced in the past 4-5 episodes over 22 instead of just a couple each season.

I find it difficult to see ABC having the guts to turn around to Marvel/Disney/Whedon and say you're not getting another season, but the simple fact is that ratings aren't great. The initial wave of optimism was cut short be some dire opening episodes, but word of mouth is very good right now.

Confident for S2 just on merit of the franchise, S3 not so much

I'm afraid of a pick up with a budget cut.
Imho a smalle number of episodes (like 13) with a bigger budget, maybe on Netflix or any sort of cable channel could be better. I'm ok to wait more months to have a better product.

Netflix would be there for the immediate rebound relationship pickup. I can't wait to see what gets accomplished between MCU and Netflix in 2015.

I keep reading people want to move the show to another day of the week. My question is what day?
Mondays are out of the question no show can compete with Monday Night Football or even Monday Night Raw.

I'd just be happy if us poor folks in the UK had them back on schedule again ;)
C4 shot themselves in the foot majorly

I don't think it should be canceled because the ratings are competitive for the timeslot and bring in numbers for the key demo. I also don't want it to be canceled, but that's a separate issue. I don't really want it to be Netflix (I'm looking forward to the Daredevil, etc., but I don't think Agents of SHIELD would benefit having the same format). If this show were on Netflix, this season could not have occurred. We never could have a cliffhanger for a week, go see a movie, and have the meaning of the following episode completely changed. I also don't think Netflix could afford Agents of SHIELD.

As for changing the timeslot. I don't like the 8pm slot and would prefer 9 or 10. That being said, the audience of a show doesn't usually grow dramatically. Being across from NCIS might be to its advantage. It'll never be expected to win the timeslot and it's not like any show ABC replaced it with could either. While NCIS does well with everyone, I think the 18-49 male demo is less likely than average to watch it. Because of this, Agents of SHIELD has a niche it can take advantage of. I'm not sure some other night would be better. That being said, I would reevaluate my position if Agent Carter followed it and that show would do better some other night.

There's no reason AoS on Netflix couldn't run in a weekly format

Yes they did after making the blindingly great decision to show this series on friday evening and then repeating it the following afternoon I couldn't help wondering when they started showing it on E4 on Sunday right before the Tomorrow People remake if they were either trying to get people to watch the Tomorrow People or seriously thought Sunday afternoon was a better time to show it!

I've only been able to watch a couple of episodes of Arrow and even went as far as buying the season 1 collection but had more interest in Agents of Shield even after that prolonged leave of absence...:csad:

Great to see its back, now I hope they avoid whoever cancelled Firefly after it wasn't even allowed to air in order or even get the benefit of a full season!

Here's my .02.

I think at this point with the way things are shaking out Marvel might have missed with what demographic they were aiming for. I think the show is a little too "cerebral?" to grab the children that powered The Avengers numbers because of the supers. That's why Arrow is doing so well. They aren't afraid to use household names to fuel the show, even if they are "b" level heroes. So at this point, if they aren't willing to up the frequency of supers, then let's get more adult content a la "24". Lose the damn Icers and ice people the old fashioned way with lead.

Being that I am used to the Netflix binge system. Why not have AoS there? Wheadon can then film it movie style knowing people are gonna watch it in one go. And it could still be lined up with movie releases. Make a season tie in with a film even. I think the quality of the product will be better without the constraints of family TV restrictions.

Anyways. What the ratings say to me is that AoS is a niche show with a small but dedicated fan base. And unless they up the hero cameos, that's how it will remain.

I despise the Netflix style of season dumping. I love being able to talk about it for months on end and speculate and get awesome event weeks like Turn, Turn, Turn. Netflix is not a good home for this

Putting aside the key demo of TV A18-49. The target demo for the show is M18-34. Which it has done very well in. This show wasn't targeted at kids. No show on prime-time TV is targeted at kids.

And about your comment about lose the icers and use guns. I'm not completely sure but if I had to guess there's been more firing of "real guns" on the show than there have been of the "icer guns".

What about Hulu? Hulu runs weekly shows.

See I consider the 8pm slot early enough to be a young kids demographic. And what also drove interest in Marvel was merchandising sales from the movies. I know merchandising isn't 'to the focus of AoS, but if featuring in some regard the heroes these kids bought those toys for. Well I think those numbers would be up there. Up until recently, AoS has been a little too family friendly for a cut throat espionage agency. I guess I can retract my Icer comment. They have been letting it fly the last couple. Still hate those stupid weapons though.

I don't know. I have this ideal in my head of how the show should be. And it wouldn't take much to get it there. In my head AoS is a combo of Criminal Minds, 24, and Splinter Cell in Metropolis.

Will 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Get a Season Two?

Despite pacing problems in the first half of the season and on-again-off-again scheduling that has frustrated some fans, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." on Disney's ABC has been picking up steam in recent weeks. Its most recent episode, set during the events of Marvel Studios' Captain America: The Winter Soldier, played well off of the events of the film and set up what will likely be the main conflicts in the remaining five episodes.

A few solid episodes and a movie tie-in don't necessarily make a hit show, however, and there is still some speculation as to whether the show will return for a second season. Does it make sense for ABC to bring the series back in the fall, or should it just be written off as a single-season extension of the Marvel cinematic universe?

By the numbers
Even though there has been a lot of praise for this past week's episode, "Turn, Turn, Turn," the show's ratings have never been worse. With only 5.37 million viewers (down from the 12.12 million that tuned in for the pilot and even the 5.71 million that had tuned in the week before), this represents an all-time low for the show despite the episode being a direct tie-in to the hottest movie at the box office. This is a continuation of a slow bleed of viewers that the show has experienced all season, and shows that even an improvement in pacing and a more focused storyline haven't been enough to turn things around.

It doesn't help that the show is scheduled opposite "NCIS" on CBS . While "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." was drawing in its lowest viewership numbers to date, "NCIS" enjoyed over three times as large of a live-viewing audience with 17.39 million viewers. "NCIS" serves as a more natural lead-in to the shows that follows it as well; "NCIS: Los Angeles" enjoyed 14.56 million viewers and "Person of Interest" enjoyed 7.89 million, while "Agents" was followed by sitcoms "The Goldbergs" (4.45 million) and "Trophy Wife" (2.82 million), as well as a re-airing of the fantasy drama series "Resurrection," which only saw 2.17 million viewers. While the Tuesday night lineup on CBS sets viewers up for genre viewing, ABC's lineup is scattered.

Is there hope for 'Agents'?
The real effect of "Turn, Turn, Turn" won't really be seen until next week. If word of mouth brings about a renewed interest in the show, a ratings bump could occur as former viewers tune in to see what they've been missing. It wouldn't be the first time that this happened; after the secret of Agent Coulson's resurrection was revealed in "T.A.H.I.T.I.," the show saw viewership rise from that episode's 5.46 million viewers to the next week's 5.99 million.

Guest stars from the Marvel films can also be a major draw, which is likely why the show has a few more planned before the season is up. Cobie Smulders (who plays Agent Maria Hill in the Marvel films) is set to return in episode 20, while Samuel L. Jackson (who plays Commander Nick Fury) recently confirmed that he was involved in the season finale. These cameos and word-of-mouth advertising resulting from recent plot twists might help boost viewership as the season winds to a close.

Will there be a season 2?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producers Jeph Loeb and Jeff Bell made it clear that they're hopeful for a second season. Loeb stated that "the fun of being able to tell a story is that for this season, it's 22, and let's hope that we get to tell 100 more," while Bell said, "We can't wait for next season. Here's the thing: Hydra is now loose. A lot of things that we couldn't talk about in the first 2/3 of the season are now our in our world." The interview shows just how much of the first season was building up to the upcoming finale, and makes it clear that there is a plan in place for a second season. Will it ever see the light of day, though?

Most likely, yes. While its viewership has been slipping all season, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is still the strongest show that ABC has on Tuesday nights. Its 5.37 million viewers also isn't that far down from the network's overall average for the week of 6.39 million. It also performed relatively close to other hit shows such as "Modern Family" (which only had 4.79 million viewers) and "Once Upon a Time" (which had 6.68 million viewers last Sunday).

When you add in the cross-promotion possibilities with Marvel films and the fact that the next "Avengers" film is slated to come out when season 2 would be working up to a finale, it's highly unlikely that ABC will cancel "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." this year.

ABC is not gonna cancel Agents of Shield despite its underwhelming ratings.

Also ABC is still more accessible than Neflix.

I think alot of it is timing....moving the time...or another day of the week might help the raitings

Don't mess with the old Buffy time slot. Like all Whedon shows, character building is a slow simmering process that gets exciting toward the end of the first season. The show is finally gained steam, and the ratings will reflect it.

Honestly, all the Jossverse shows start out slow. However, this show isn't really a Joss Whedon-helmed show despite what the marketing portrays.

Personally, I wish they would wrap up all the needed loose ends this season so there wouldn't be a need for the next season. It'd have been cool if Hydra used Graviton, Blizzard and Deathlok in Avengers 2, so it isn't one Big Bad and a bunch of nameless henchmen again.

However, if it does get canceled, maybe the characters and any dangling plots can be dealt with in a Black Widow movie.

I like the series and all...I just really like the idea of moving forward into new corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If season 2 of AoS is needed to bring in the age of miracles more or to launch Phase 3, then great...but if it keeps going to just to go, then I'd rather them focus on other stuff.

It is very much a Jed Whedon project though (along with other assorted cohorts). He has roots in the slow build. It's his flavor of writing. And lets not forget Maurissa as well.
