There are many mixed views about the Silent Hill movie. Some people love it, some people hate it, some people are somewhere in between. But did the movie make enough money to warrent a sequel? Does the director believe he did the mythology of Silent Hill justice??

My own views on the film are mixed. At first, I really enjoyed it, really loved it. But upon multiple viewings (which I also enjoyed) the flaws became more and more apparant. I think as a stand alone film, without thinking of the games, it does well. And compared to the games, it does rather well still. They changed the story around a little... I think they wanted to go in a different direction with the mythology. It's about... 80% in line with the story of the games. All the symbolism is still there. The whole idea of Hell, Pergueatory, and Paradise. The idea that Silent Hill is shifting between realities. The whole thing of how religion can be abused and distorted.

The film looked great. They really nailed the look and atmosphere of Silent Hill. From the town itself, to the fog, the emptiness, the rusty bikes and broken prams, etc. And the look of 'dark' Silent Hill was also good.Nailed perfectly. Rusty, steely walls. Grate floors. Weird creatures hanging in weird cages, etc.

But there was alot that was wrong. Mainly the script. This film would have been so much better if only the script was better. The dialogue at points is a little shabby. The scene where the screen goes white, and the little girl proceeds to explain EVERYTHING... awful scene.

And there wasn't enough weirdness. You know how in the games there is a much more tense, lonely atmosphere... and there's the weirdness. And the movie also missed the ambiguity. How can I explain the weirdness... those who have played the games know what I mean. The games at points are just VERY surreal. You would question whether the whole thing is a dream. And that's another thing, they definitively set Silent Hill too much in the real world.

I thought there was plenty of weirdness.

I enjoyed the film. Flawed maybe, but I still thought it was a relatively decent film. I think they could give a sequel a bash, but not sure the original made enough money to warrant it.

Well, the film made about five million over it's budget, so....you never know.

I would love to see a sequel. True, the first film was flawed, but so was Spider-man, but with time, Raimi made the great Spider-man 2. I'd hope for the same thing from this director. Learn from your mistakes.

I like the film, especially the first half. It did have its flaws but I was creeped out enough that I would like to see a sequel.

Yeah, and considering advertising costs, all together it didn't make much of a profit at the box office.

I'd love to see a sequel for Silent Hill. That means more Pyramid Head, more creepy visuals, and a more tense atmosphere.

I've never played the games but I liked the film. Pyramid Head was awesome, seeing him slink on to the screen was such a 'FRICKIN WOW' moment.. I'd be open to a sequel anway.

C'mon guys, say more than that!

Why don't ya want a sequel?

Well, you'll never be a professional critic, that's for sure.

Nor am I trying to be... Plus, it doesn't deserve a full review, anyway.

Sorry for disagreeing on your view of the Silent Hill movie. You can continue loving it now. :down

I cannot emphasise how much this movie sucked enough, and I cannot emphasise enough my reply

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thank god it's lackluster box office probably saved us/

My issue isn't that you don't like the film. My issue is that you don't seem to be able to express why.

Well, whatever you think, Carrie 2 was worse.

*sigh*

I feel that the film is weak in most aspects of the word. I found it rather boring and unexciting. It was not even remotely frightening, with lame creatures and special effects. Acting was mediocre.

I just didn't get into it. Then again, I'm not a fan of the game series. Maybe that has something to do with it, but I doubt it. So far, movies based on video games have not impressed me. Maybe they should stick to making video games based on movies, rather than movies based on games.

I think Silent Hill is a step in the right direction as far as video game adaptations go. It's not impossible to make a good video game movie. It just needs to be taken seriously and taken good care of by good writers and directors.

I think Doom and Resident Evil were both far more entertaining. Silent Hill was an incoherant mess.

What was boring?

And it's a different type of movie to Doom and Resident Evil. Doom and RE are meant to be brainless entertainment.

so Silent HIll was meant to be a boring, badly written, badly acted incoherant mess?

That would explain a lot.

Badly written I can agree with. A couple of the actors... I'd like to know where they pulled them from. That Anna girl was annoying. Incoherant... yeah I can agree with that. Film needed a better writer, it's the movie's biggest flaw.

But boring? I never found it boring. The only scenes where I can see your point with that is her husband's scenes. They were unnecassery and did nothing for the film and slowed the pace right down.
