Should they make another Punisher movie?

Not immediately. I'm waiting for other characters to get their movies. The Punisher had the chances.

A true shame that The Punisher has had such bad luck getting a consistant film series, although I suppose the DVD sales of PWZ could decide whether or not another movie gets made. The PWZ DVD has been selling pretty well, hasn't it?

DVD sales probably aren't going to do it, though great DVD sales is what got it greenlight when it was still a sequel to the 2004 film, the 2004 made over $50 million worldwide as opposed to only around $9 million.

If something does get greenlite it'll probably be a cheap direct-to-DVD piece of crap, then again My Bloody Valentine 3D made a nice chunk of change during it's run and Lionsgate opted out of doing a sequel.

They should have just made another movie with Jane instead of War Zone. The character had been set up well enough in the origin movie, the sequel could have been whatever they wanted.

Supposedly the sequel to the 2004 movie was going to be a much darker, seedier and more violent film with no humor and a more brutal Punisher, but Jane dropped out because he didn't like any of the scripts they did. I believe it was Tim Bradstreet who came to Jane's defense over allegations that Jane dropped out because he wanted to make Frank similar to Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver, when what Jane really wanted to do was make a very dark and seedy urban action film with a similar vibe as Taxi Driver. Seeing how lighthearted a film PWZ was, I guess Lion's Gate wanted to do a more fun action movie as opposed to something dark and depressing like what Jane wanted.

Who knows if PWZ will make enough bank on DVD to warrant another film somewhere down the line. It's not just the DVD sales but also the international gross as a whole, theatrical and DVD. The best bet for the character at this point would be for Marvel to produce an R-rated animated film on DVD, and if it does well enough perhaps it'll be enough for another live-action film to be made.

Jane wanted to bring in Walter Hill (who would have made a damn good Punisher movie) to write and direct the movie, Lionsgate didn't want him for what ever reason and I think was kinda the last straw for Jane.

Including international gross War Zone only made$10,086,898 theatrically, it would have to make a quite a large sum in DVD sales to even consider doing another movie, which is doubtful.

Walter Hill would do a phenomenal job at a Punisher film, IMO. Who knows why Lion's Gate didn't want him onboard, but it was definitely a huge mistake on their part. Hill directing with Ennis writing the script in the same vein as his Max comics would've been a dream Punisher film come to life.

With PWZ likely not to rake in too much dough with it's DVD sales (at least not enough to warrant a major studio production), hopefully Marvel will seriously consider doing an R-rated animated film and maybe even an animated series like the HBO Spawn series.

Even a Punisher vs. in the same vein as the Hulk vs. would be real cool. The guy does live in the 616 universe, after all (although he really shines in MAX 1-60!). Having him take on Deadpool would be hilarious and awesome, and they could always do a Punisher vs. Daredevil. No one could say no to that.

(If you haven't seen Hulk vs. yet, get it NOW! Hulk vs. Wolverine is amazing!)

If only the movie Deadpool was as entertaining as the animated one.

"I shot you in the ass with one of these.... What? I did."

Any of those would be cool to see, and a hopeful right step in getting The Punisher more recognition among the mainstream.

I recall there was talk of doing one way back, with Jane possibly doing the voice, but that all fell through. There was also apparently a plan for a one-shot comic drawn by Bradstreet with Jane as Castle, the things that could have been.

Hopefully the plan for an animated series remains there, it's the character's best bet to continue in another medium. Jane doing the voice would be a must.

As cool as those sounds I prefer Frank away from the super-powered, irradiated side of Marvel. I prefer his brand of street level crime fighting.

I totally agree with this. (Deadpool is my favorite character and Daredevil is one of them.) Seeing The Punisher go up against Daredevil and Deadpool would just be :wow: Hopefully Marvel Animation Studios will see this thread and start working on it right now.

I'm sure this would sell great. I mean, how couldn't it? And I loved Hulk vs, just pure awesomeness!

There needs to be a LEGO PUNISHER videogame.

Cool :woot:

On that subject, a true sequel to the 2005 Punisher video game would be awesome as well. Base it off of Ennis' Max run and improve the engine from the first game.

I dunno. They need to something really fresh and unique and BIG with Frank. These B movie Punisher films are just never gonna fly. The character is just too cliche and his whole story and motives have been done to death soooo many times. Unless something is done that is really interesting I don't think he'll ever get a successful film.

Maybe they could include him in other comic book movies? Like how Frank sometimes turns up in other characters comics, why not in other characters films? Still keep Stevenson as Frank for sure though.

Maybe he could pop up in Deadpools film? They have had some great clashes in the past as well as both being in Suicide Kings at the moment.

Well if Marvel is really doing the Deadpool film, I guess theirs a chance for that. Which would be awesome! :woot: So this could work.

But I hope if anything they do a Punisher VS animated movie, it'd just be sweet.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. This should have been an easy movie to do, not requiring much in special effects. They had so much room for character development, but that seems to be one of the things they are incapable of doing. So...

No, enough already

I'd much rather see the Black Panther, Power Man & Iron Fist, Dazzler, Warlock & the Infinity Watch and, of course, Alpha Flight. Heck, at this point, I'd rather see them take another stab at Howard the Duck than do a Punisher movie again.

Seriously, how hard is it to write a good crime film set in NY? Been done hundreds of times. Just put the guy in a skull t-shirt.

Where's Michael Mann when you need him?

Well that is the problem. Punishers story has been done to death, just with different characters. It's the typical cliche of cop/fed/soldier wanting revenge for the murder of loved ones.

Yeah, LG should release a Punisher vs animated film. Have him go against Bullseye and Moon Knight. Either Tom Jane or Ray Stevenson could voice Frank Castle.

I would like a sequel to PWZ, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I agree that the problem with the Punisher is in the comics he's unique but on film he's.... been done to death. The cop/soldier whose family is killed and now he wants revenge has been done like 32423423434234324 times.

The best bet for The Punisher to ever get a distinctive treatment in film and one that sets him apart from other vigilantes is for Ennis to be brought onboard to pen the scripts.
