Should they make another Punisher movie?

What? I think you are missing a few words in that sentence fragment there.

Damn, I screwed one that up. That's what I get when I rephrase a sentence and don't proofread it.

Just watched The Punisher film with Tom Jane, it is one of my favorite Marvel films now. I seriously want a sequel to that with Tom Jane as The Punisher again.

100% agreed. It is quickly becoming a cult classic. The director's cut has a nice added sub plot too.

And War Zone was so abysmal it only makes us look at Jane's Punisher in better light. Hell even the Dolph Ludgren film feels like a good movie compared to War Zone.

I agree i just watched the Tom Jane version again and wish they would do another one with him.

Amen to ALP's comment.

Jane's "Punisher" is a much better film than "Warzone" was. Jane was smart to leave. He smelled a steaming pile of **** with "Warzone."

lets hope Marvel talks him back into it and gets a good director to do it.

Looking at the DVD bonus materiel, I think Jonathan Hensleigh did an awesome job directing Punisher, he used no special effects, only practical ones; in this day and age, you don't find to many films doing that. Jane turning from a happy married man into 'I don't give a fudge about nothing but punishing the Saints' was rreally good. So get Hensleigh and Jane back, and I'll be happy

I thought PWZ was a fun movie, but the 2004 one was definitely far better, IMO. Jane and Hensleigh being back would make me very happy.

Assuming they actually make another punisher film, the franchise will have a track record of 3 previous films that all under-performed.

Can anyone think of a similar franchise scenario in film history?

It's too bad War Zone had such a God awful director that made such a piss poor movie, because I thought Stevenson WAS Frank Castle. Seems like such a waste of potential for the character.
I do like the Thomas Jane movie. Marvel's movies have been mixed quality, but I'd say that it is actually one of Marvel's more decent movies, particularly the director's cut.

But to think that Punisher is going to get a 4th go round blows me away. You can't keep Frank down. I do say that there is no need for an origin at this point. Just get going with the story. If not a movie, give us a graphic TV series.

Too bad Stevenson didn't get a better produced film for him to star in. He's my favorite version of the three.

He certainly LOOKS the most like what I would expect Punisher to look like...

So are the rights reverting back to Marvel anytime soon, or does Lionsgate still have them?

Oh yeah nvm, I forgot War Zone was under the Marvel Knights banner.

I really hope David Chronenburg directs a Punisher film one day.

You know him, Michael Mann, or Zack Snyder wouldn't be bad. All three could make a decent if not better Punisher film and all three aren't shy on getting their hands a little bloody.

Hell, David Fincher is another name to toss around into the hat.

Punisher War Zone was under Lionsgate... i dont know what was the Marvel Knights thing about... got me excited for a minute. Now I'm like... so? Wheres the Marvel Knights movie?

Some good suggestions there. I'm not a fan of Zach Snyder but this kind of character is suited for him. Michael Mann is one of those guys who truly knows how to do gun shootouts.

my ideal directors would be:

Zack Snyder
Sly Stallone
Michael Mann
Paul Greengrass

Stallone, Walter Hill, Michael Mann, or Russell Mulcahy (seen Give em Hell Malone was bad-ass)

I'm sold on Stallone, Walter Hill, or if Tom Jane comes back, have Jane direct himself. Stallone just does his thing. Which I love. He pulls no punches and understands violence: if the story is compelling, the violence comes naturally and subsequently, feels natural and real, not gratuitous.

Hill is the same way. The guy has amazing action, and great characters. He also has a very low-key, gritty style of film-making that permeates all of his films, regardless of the genre.

Jane, based soley on Dark Country, has a great eye for visuals and atmosphere. He made great use of tension and unease. The car chase was pretty nifty too.

Give 'Em Hell Malone was an interesting movie. Some all around great performances (though the leading lady was awful), but the dialogue was a little off, the humor wasn't funny(except for French Stewart singing Goodnight Ladies...had me rolling).

I love Zack Snyder's movies, but he'd have to get rid of the slo-mo. I enjoy his use of it, but it's not right for The Punisher.

Paul Greengrass wouldn't be right either. I hate how all action movies these days have these horrible shaky cam action sequences. I want to SEE these sequences. I don't trust Greengrass giving any of those.

Well, Greengrass has let up on the shaky cam stuff recently. While he's a great director, I don't see him doing a Punisher movie. Ideally Walter Hill is the man for the job, he even almost got the gig back when Jane was working on the sequel to his film.

Like I've mentioned, Marvel isn't going to be going for A list directors like Mann, Cronenberg, Greengrass etc... The next movie will be just as cheap as the other ones.
