Siege Ends The Avengers

I don't see Bendis sharing his spot at the top of Marvel's central franchise anytime soon.

If he leaves the Avengers, it makes my choice to fully drop them easier. He's one of the reasons I stick around and enjoy it as much as I do. He and Luke are my favorites on the team. They have a good dynamic.

I just can't get into the classic feel. I honestly don't care if Mighty is dropped because, while I read it, it's probably my least favorite of the Avenger line. And if it weren't for Quicksilver and the Young Avengers it would have already been dropped.

While I think Bendis does just fine with the Avengers, adding Slott as a co-writer would probably help, but might add too much of that classic feel mixed with Bendis's new feel, and I don't know that I'd like that.

IA with your post. I could care less about the classic Avengers and simply cant get into Mighty as well. I loved New Avengers with its edgier, street feel. I think it should stay or at least have something similar take its place. Spidey has been a great fit and I also like Luke there. I have to say though, that I wouldnt mind if Bendis left bc he lost his touch back around Civil War. The title just hasnt been as great as it was in the beginning for quite some time and I think its bc its time for some new blood and new ideas

I hope Spidey leaves the avengers only because i cannot stand the way Bendis portrays him. Bendis writes 616 spidey like some overactive manchild who contributes nothing to the team. What has spidey actually done on the avengers team besides make dumb remarks? Bendis seems to have forgotten that Spidey outclasses everybody on the team both intellectually and physically, it would be nice to see that every now and then.

I agree with that to an extent, but being that I refuse to read BND, it's the only Spidey I can get. And he doesn't write a BAD Spider-Man, he just underuses him. He writes Spidey better than he does Bucky or Iron Fist. (and the latter is a shame really... he's such a cool character)

Cap, Thor, and Iron Man are coming back, so I don't really care what else happens with the Avengers. I'll give whatever's coming after Siege a fair shot, at the very least. I've been in love with the Avengers since I first saw them when I started reading comics.

I dont know, i'm still skeptical that ironman, thor and cap are reuniting for good. Thor's made it clear several times recently that he still has a lot of disdain for Tony after what he did in civil war, and Cap...well Steve and Tony's relationship is a mystery but i would imagine its still very complicated after Civil War. Not to mention that Steve will most likely not be wearing the costume for the foreseeable future. So i dont think its a 100% certainty that the three will be on a team together. Then again, i'm just thinking realistically and marvel may just decide to do it anyway.

Tony's sacrifices in "World's Most Wanted" and "Stark: Disassembled" seem to have healed the rift between Thor and Tony considerably. I mean, both Thor and Don Blake hopped onboard the task of reviving Tony without hesitation.

As for Steve, I wouldn't mind seeing Bucky act as Cap on the Avengers. It's looking more and more like Steve will assume Osborn/Stark's position as head of the US' superhuman forces, so he'd still be a presence, at least.

And conflict is gooooood. I mean, I don't want ongoing meaningless melodrama. But a little underlying tensions between the three of them would make things more interesting. Nothing worse than characters standing around complimenting one another.

Conflict'll happen by virtue of their natures. They're 3 very different men who want the same thing but have drastically different means of getting it. I think seeing a bit of forgiveness in the meantime will be a good transition into the Heroic Age stuff.

I like the idea behind this, but I haven't really enjoyed Bendis' take on the Avengers in the past. That, and I'm skeptical of the whole Heroic Age idea. Seems pretty out of line with what Bendis and Joey Q have done in the past. I'm almost expecting them to turn the heroes into some kind of like oppressing force or something towards general humanity.

I don't know, may still check it out, but I'll probably wait it out on the sidelines for awhile and see how it goes.

Steve and Thor came RUNNING to help save Stark in the current arc. While they haven't cleared the air about everything, the door is certainly open.

I suppose I agree with the second half of this post (I've made my thoughts on Bendis writing the Avengers well known), but the first part, about the "edgy" and "street" aspects, those just aren't supposed to be the Avengers. The Avengers are meant to be the big, epic group with some of the most powerful members fighting the biggest threats, and making them "street" really just never made sense to me. There are so many better ways Marvel can, and in the past, has done that, including Bendis's own work on "Daredevil".

I don't mind the Avengers tackling street-level stuff. Sometimes it's nice to see the big guns just happen across something small-time and dispatch it. But Bendis made them pretty sucky compared to the street-level s*** (the numerous ninja fights being the prime examples) and he made street-level stuff their only challenge for a long time. I mean, fault him all you like for Naked Chick Ultron, but at least he was trying to have his Avengers live up to their legacy with that arc.

Yep, the Avengers are supposed to be Marvel's most prestigious team "to fight the foes no single superhero could withstand."

Enough with the street level villains and them picking up garbage, if and when the Big 3 return, I will return.

I dropped New Avengers since the issue with Cage and his baby mama drama (that whole issue was a huge wtf facepalm) and Mighty since Iron Man left.

Ever since civil war broke up the original new avengers, the book hasnt really gone anywhere. I felt like the original lineup of wolverine, spidey, luke, spiderwoman, ironman and cap had a alot of potential that was never met. It was a well balanced team and it would have been nice to see them go some insane adventures but oh well. Personally i would like to see that team come back. If thor wants in then i wont complain either. lol

If they revert to the New Avengers line-up after Siege, I'll probably pass. That's not the fulfillment of Siege/Heroic Age's promise, as far as I'm concerned. :o

They need

Cage- He's the black guy
Thor- He's the sentry(or the sentry was thor), I think Sentry will find his end in siege
Captain America (bucky) - Honestly I don't see them tossing the guy unless he dies again. The objective was to bring steve back now and use him later down the line in a few years.
Iron Man- iffy since most of the new avengers sees him as the leader who personally tried to kill them all.
Spider-woman- She's the chick of the team but at the same time we have spiderman
Spiderman- Oh with a new movie on its heels he's staying.
Wolverine- I gotta flip a coin. I would be surprised to see him stay but I can see him go if they bring in..........
Ares- Love this guy and he is Wolverine but with less morals but not evil
Hercules- They are making it seem like he will be taking a break and theres already so many powerhouses.
Vison and Stature- Not really the original avengers and the young avengers need there people back
Quicksilver- I forsee him returning to the X-men titles
Wasp- Oh he will be in the avengers. They didn't bring him back to just dump him.
Jarvis- You know he's coming back
Ms Marvel- Powerful female ..........yeah she's staying
Us Agent- Oh he's gone. Bucky is basically US Agent but actually Captain America

Overall though I don't see the roster adding in anyone new.

I just hope Clint turns back into Hawkeye. I'd love it if he beats the crap out of Bullseye & then takes his costume back. :D

My post-Siege team:

Captain America (Bucky? Depends on what Steve does after Siege)
Thor
Iron Man (Maybe, he'll be doing something that makes the heroes forgive him in Siege)
Spider-Man
Luke Cage
Hawkeye
Ms. Marvel
Hank Pym

Though, I do hope Bendis leaves & decides to do another solo character book. But that seems really unlikely, Dan Slott taking over the main title would be amazing though.

I was really excited that [BLACKOUT]the old Vision[/BLACKOUT] made a quick appearance in the new issue of Mighty. Too bad it didn't last.

I really don't want Luke Cage on the new roster or Wolverine for that matter. Keep it classic, the only exception I'll make is Spider-Man.

Here's my list:
Cap
Thor
Iron Man
Hawkeye
Vision
Ms. Marvel
Wonder Man
Black Knight
and The Beast...SWORD is getting cancelled, he quit the X-Men and was a former Avenger (a popular one at that!)

That'd be a sweet line-up. I didn't realize "SWORD" was being cancelled, not that I'm surprised. The art was awful.

That would be awesome! If Bendis and Slott co-wrote a bimonthly Avengers book? I'm sure neither of them would do it, though. On his team books, Bendis could certainly use a partner. And who better than Dan Slott?

I...didn't actually mean that. While I'm sure if Dan Slott co-wrote with Bendis, he would improve Bendis' output in terms of quality astronomically, that wasn't what I was getting at. What I meant was, a book called THE AVENGERS comes out twice a month. One issue is Bendis', and another is Slott's, each doing their own story with their own creative teams. Much as when INCREDIBLE HERCULES split off and one issue was Cho's, and the other was Herc's, and each story had different artists. I mean, they're both just different branches of THE AVENGERS anyway. Why not just sell and publish them under one title? Lord knows the X-Men could have used such an idea ages ago.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN merged that with his two side titles under that premise, and sales wise at least has been a success, usually selling in the Top 20-25. The logic was all 3 titles were all Spider-Man books so it made logical sense to publish them all under the same header.

Otherwise, what else to call a new MIGHTY AVENGERS? NEW MIGHTY AVENGERS? They could just relaunch it with a new #1 like the MARVEL ADVENTURES comics, but that would seem like a waste. I still want it to remain. Slott's doing too much to just end it after barely a year and a half.

SWORD is getting cancelled

Is this actually confirmed? I hadn't heard anything about that. I'm expecting it to get canceled fairly quickly but I hadn't heard an official report of it.

If it is canceled then I blame the artist. The story is great, so if it tanked it's because of the artist and his rendition of Beast (and others at times) that scared away so many people. That's my opinion.
