Superman Returns Singer mentioned that this would vaguely tie in with Smallville, how so???

Thats just one, The leaving earth for 6+ years exactly when did superman do that in the comic's? I believe that is another liberty he took that I am not to fond of.
Superman has left Earth many times in the comics. He's gone back to Krypton. He's visited other worlds. You just never see the impact his absence has on Earth. We just assume that he's back in a day or so. But what if he actually had to follow the laws of physics and didn't have something like a boom tube or a wormhole? It would take him years, wouldn't it? Time simply exists in comics when it is convenient for the story. It just so happens that for this story, it is.

Whether your opinion is in the minority or the majority should have no effect on how prepared you are for a debate.

Jor-el WARNING: If you go back in time, fate will find a balance = Superman killed Jonathan intentionally =badly written episode = Death of Superman = No more Smallville for SpiderDaniel.

That's not intentional. While I don't like the episode, I can see that Clark did not intentionally kill Jonathan. He knew the warning. He knew what the consequences. But he didn't know how or who it would affect. So no, he did not willfully kill Jonathan.

:p And now, Lana and Luthor are going to have a romantic relationship. Can it get any worser?
At least as bad as your grammar.

Like I said I don't want to get into this type of argument again but I will say this:

Jor-El WARNING: If you go back in time, fate will find a balance = Clark changed the course of time regardless of the consequences to save one he loves = As a result, Jonathan dies = Clark feels guilty and regrettful = Martha tries her best to comfort him by explaining that it was not his fault (he didn't know what would've happened) = interesting (and controversial) twist on a classic character = Unique, modernized interpretation of Superman = More Smallville for LostSon88.

I'm not as slavish to the established canon as some people are and although yes, this is a controversial move to make for the Superman character, Smallville is just one of various interpretations and as a Superman fan, I am willing to at least acknowledge if not completely accept their creative decisions. So long as the death of Jonathan is NOT the catalyst of why he becomes Superman, i'm all good.

I don't speak Portuguese but I do speak two dialects of Filipino (Tagalog and Visayan) and French fluently. It was a joke.

He knew someone close to him would die. If that's not an indicator of bad writing, then I don't know what one is. I don't mind if something departs the canon...as long as it's delivered with intelligent writing and at least decent acting (which only Rosenbaum and Glover accomplish for me).

I accept some of their creative decisions, too. Like when they turned Mxyzptlk into...The Russian Influencer?!? Why not just give him some other name? Oh, then I loved the Chinese Kryptonite/Lana is Neo episode. Oh, and the episodes that mocked the Wiccan religion were priceless, too (What's next, mocking Jesus or Buddha?). Not to mention Chloe and Lois' long-winded-straight-out-of-Gilmore-Girls dialogue delivery every episode. The fact that they even painted themselves into a corner with the whole forced death in episode 100 is just wretch-inducing. The only thing that would've made the moment any more touching was for them to play another Lifehouse song during the ending.:)

As far as that episode is concerned, I actually thought the "balance" that Jor-El was refering to was going to be the universe making sure it got Lana, hence Clark's preemtive attemtps to protect her the second go-around. At least, that's how I think Clark perceived it.

The way I perceived it and the way it went down was that he gets one back, but he loses another. I figured it was either going to be Chloe or Kent, and it was Kent.

Edit: It's not that I hated all of the episode. I actually enjoyed the part where he revealed his secret to Lana. I thought it was corny and stupid, though, when Lex became psychic about her knowing "something" about Clark, and as a result that became a plot coupon to get into a high-speed chase?!? If Lex loves Lana so much, then why the hell would he endanger her in that way? He took a bullet for her in an earlier episode if I'm not mistaken. It just seemed way too illogical to me.

I'm aware of the way it went down, I just don't think Clark had any idea it was going to happen.

Maybe, Scoot. But I'm willing to bet you'd interpret the whole "balance" comment as meaning that one life will be exchanged for another. And not just some random shmo who Clark doesn't know, but someone close to him.

Well, I don't know how I'd interpret that if it were actually happening to me (though that would be awesome, because I'd be Superman), but I think the writers tried to align it more with my idea. I also think a big part of the "reasoning" behind the sour opinions/outcry come from the fact that a lot of us knew - or strongly suspected - J was going to die. I imagine that, to those who had not known that prior to seeing it, the set-up played out differently, up until the last few minutes. It probably could have been handled better, but what can't really?

And I thought Jonathan's actual death was very nicely done. Poignant.

And, by no circustance, Clark would take the risk. Thats not how Superman acts. Period.
They should`ve rewritten the episode without this turning back time bul**** and Chloe dying instead of Lana.

BTW, Jonathans Death was terrible too and too fast.

The death scene was actually pretty okay (and that's me being honest). I just wish they could cut the good parts of that episode out and remake so I can sleep at night.

Phew, it's a good think he doesn't play Superman then.

:)
