Well, I don't know how I'd interpret that if it were actually happening to me (though that would be awesome, because I'd be Superman), but I think the writers tried to align it more with my idea. I also think a big part of the "reasoning" behind the sour opinions/outcry come from the fact that a lot of us knew - or strongly suspected - J was going to die. I imagine that, to those who had not known that prior to seeing it, the set-up played out differently, up until the last few minutes. It probably could have been handled better, but what can't really?
And I thought Jonathan's actual death was very nicely done. Poignant.
