Single Issue-Must Haves

Must-Have of the Day, featuring the first appearance of Machine Man.

Must-Have of the Day, featuring the first issue of Thunderbolts. I still remember that shocking ending, revealing that this new supergroup was made up of B-list supervillians. Today, this isn't anything new; but, T-bolts started it.

While the original Secret Six were before the Thunderbolts, the villianous version of the Secret Six didn't emerge until 2005. (This is from what I just read. I am not a DC expert.) Thunderbolts premiered in 1998.

Suicide Squad does predate the Thunderbolts by quite a few years. Though I'm not sure it was an all-villain team.

Yep, that Suicide Squad predated T-Bolts by a good 12 years; but, it consisted of heroes and villians. (I have all 66 issues of that original series; but, have never read them. I got them when I bought some guys collection about 3 years ago.)

Must-Have of the Day, featuring double-sized Iron Man vs. Doctor Doom. 'nuff said!

A lot of writers felt that Dr. Doom should have been Iron Man's main bad guy due to their similarities.

It's a good idea, but he's kind of taken....

:ff:

I realize that, its just that some writers disagreed with him being made the FF villain. Seeing as he and Stark are both business men with powered suits of armor.

Must-Have of the Day, featuring the first appearance of one of the Dark Avengers, Moonstone. While she had a cameo appearance before this in Captain America 192, her first full appearance was in this issue of The Incredible Hulk:

Here's my single issue must have for the day... I think it speaks for itself...

FF #236

The FF's 20th Anniversary issue is a complete story and one of Byrne's best. This is a must read. Not just one to leave on the shelves.

The FF got their powers right? Or was it a dream? Find out if our FF are really heroes or just crazy.

I still remember buying this book off the rack...

:yay:

I remember the same thing. By this time, I had found my first comic shop in Tacoma, WA. I had my mom or grandma drive me 50 miles about once every month to two months to pick up my pull list...otherwise, before that, I had to get all my comics at 7-11 every week.

BTW, last year, I finally completed my Howard The Duck collection of his first series. Those last two issues were a bit hard to get; but, it's surprising how reasonably I got many of those issues in VF condition.

Must-Have of the Day, featuring the first appearance of another Dark Avenger, Ares.

I like the way Bendis handled that Iron Man vs. Doom fight in Mighty Avengers.

Doom and Iron Man have always had a Heimdall / Loki relationship. Which is cool.

Thor may be Loki's arch-enemy but when Ragnarok goes down it's Heimdall who takes his ass down.

I've always thought Iron Man will prolly be there when Doom get's his come uppance. It was also apropos when Iron Man pulled Doom kicking and screaming into the Onslaught aura.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Must Have of the Day, featuring the first appearance of another Dark Avenger, Daken. Never thought I would consider a copy of Wolverine Origins as a Must Have.

I'm not knocking you at all Phaedrus45, but are the past two issues you just recommended actually good stories, or did you say they are must-haves solely for the fact that they are the first appearance of Dark Avengers?

I'll throw one out there:

GenX17.jpg

Generation X 17 really is a great underdog story. Skin, the weakest of the bunch, is left to defend a dying Chamber against the X-Cutioner, who's gone toe to toe with the X-Men and nearly killed Colossus. The way Skin fights X-Cutioner is cool and you really see the character's street smarts come into play, something I wish more people would have used with Skin instead of just killing him off later. Also, this was Bachelo at the prime of his art, not the messy stuff we see today.
