Now that we are almost out of the much hyped May month, I'm removing Potter because that's pretty much a guaranteed hit. Which of the following movies is going to be the surprise hit of the Summer?

Knocked Up
Surf's Up
Ocean's 13
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Evan Almighty
Transformers
The Simpsons Movie
Bourne Ultimatum
Rush Hour 3

Isn't a sleep hit a movie that makes say a 100 million due to a leggy run but was under the radar ala Devil Wears Prada. Anyway I'm holding that TF's going make **** loads of money because it looks amazing.

Yeah, I probably should have put what "less hyped" movie.

Yeah, I probably should have put what "less hyped" movie.

Yeah it's cool... Another question would be which film's going bomb simply because the season is far too stacked with sequals and what not... I guess time will tell. But TF got such a huge fanbase, along with a whole generation that grew up watching teh show, and the probably have kids now... It's that movie that anyone can go see especially fathers/sons... I'm so excited...

My pick for the Summer Bomb is Die Hard with a PG-13 rating and some of the things I'm hearing already. It doesn't look good.

Oops, I forgot to put that in the poll. :o

Even though i do think TF will do very well and Die Hard 4 will be a surprise success for me the ultimate sleeper will be Rise of the Silver Surfer,no one expects it to be anything but crap after the first with a similar if less BO run but i can see it cracking $200M with the release date it has.

Knocked Up. I don't consider sequals sleeper hits. Surf's Up may do well to, but I'm going with the Judd Apatow movie, because 40 year old virgin was funny as hell.

Knocked Up and Superbad for sure

Bourne Ultimatum has my vote for number one. Then comes Transformers and Fantastic Four 2.

The term "sleeper hit" CORRECTLY used- would be 'Knocked up'.

But, the following are going to be hits- just not 'sleeper hits':

- Ocean's 13
- Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
- Transformers
- The Simpson's Movie
- Bourne Ultimatum
- Rush Hour 3 (maybe, could just as easily not do as well as the previous two.)

And dude, did you just say "less hype" on Transformers?! You gotta be fcking kidding me, lol. Trust me, by the time July 4th rolls around- the country is going to be POPULATED with Transformers merch. and marketing litterally! The best marketing I've seen since- well, Spider-Man 1. The hype WILL be there when it's needed, it's a far way off though- in a way- right now. Just check the Transformers merch. thread- you'll see the list I'm talking about.

There's been atleast one surprise $100 million-grosser every summer for the past few years, and they've been mostly comedies. So I'll go with Knocked Up. Trailers look great, reviews have been great, and the story/subject matter's popular with audiences.

For the past five years...

2006 - Devil Wears Prada
2005 - a tie between Wedding Crashers and 40-Year Old Virgin
2004 - Dodgeball
2003 - Freaky Friday, Italian Job
2002 - Bourne Identity

The term "sleeper hit" CORRECTLY used- would be 'Knocked up'.

- Ocean's 13
- Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
- Transformers
- The Simpson's Movie
- Bourne Ultimatum
- Rush Hour 3 (maybe, could just as easily not do as well as the previous two.)

And dude, did you just say no "hype" on Transformers?! You gotta be fcking kidding me, lol. Trust me, by the time July 4th rolls around- the country is going to be POPULATED with Transformers merch. and marketing litterally! The best marketing I've seen since- well, Spider-Man 1.

Yeah I agree with your point on Transformers having no hype, that movie is way hyped up. Come end of June your going to see all kinds of stuff.

I think you should have narrowed it down a bit, Transformers is going to make 220+ easily imo, and I don't think much of a sleeper hit, it just doesn't have the built in audience of Pirates, or Spidey, or Sherk, but I chose Transformers cause that will make the most of the films seleceted (and also hopefully be the sweetest cause it is looking so damn sharp) but I think in terms of "Sleepers" Knocked Up...I also think Halloween (comes out Aug 31st I believe so still summer) may end up surprising alot of people with its box office

None of these can really be considered sleepers;

Knocked Up - 40 Year Old Virgin was a sleeper, people are expecting this to be good, plus it has Katherine Hiegel, one of the stars of one of the top rated TV show on air right now.

Surf's Up - CGI cartoon with penguins, c'mon, kids will be begging mom and dad to take them.

Ocean's 13 - Both the first two were hits, this is expected to be a hit too

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - The first made $150 million domestic, second should be able to make that much if not more

Evan Almighty - This could be the only one that might be considered a sleeper, but Steve Carrell is really popular now, a movie star and TV star

Transformers - Huge built in fanbase, Michael Bay dumb action movie (unlike The Island, which tried to be too smart)

The Simpsons Movie - The Simpsons may not be as big as they once were, but it's still a huge franchise

Bourne Ultimatum - Bourne Identity, $121 mil, Supremacy, $176 mil, sleeper? No

Rush Hour 3 - Rush Hour $141 mil, Rush Hour 2, $226 mil, only thing that might make this a sleeper is the time between movies

All the movies are probably expected by the studio to make over $100 mil, a better poll would be which will bomb

Knocked Up. Why the hell is Transformers on the list? That could be considered a blockbuster....unfortunately.

I guess TF has a chance to make about $220-230m, what already means a great result for $150m movie

I see Transformers flying under the radar as of right now especially admist the May movies. But when everyone was talking about the Summer movies it's Spidey, Shrek and Pirates. And maybe even Potter. I was nervous about Transformers when I first started hearing about it and now I really want to see it. I probably put it as my #2 movie behind Spidey this year.

Dude, at my college the talk was all Spidey, Shrek, POTC and Transformers- not HP. I'll give the classic example again.

When the first trailer hit, I played it before class and 80% of the guys in my class (around 10-20 guys) huddled around my laptop wanting to see the trailer over and over again and each response was BEYOND positive.

I think they have done very well with the Trailers but I think it's been more a slow build than automatic following.

Gradual, but dude- did you check that fcking list? Lol. Once we hit mid June it's going to be Transformers in over drive- you can't possibly tell me any other summer movie wil have a merchandising campaign that big- can you?

From the team that brought you the 40 Year Old Virgin, starring Katherine Hiegel, how will Knocked Up be considered a sleeper?

Not everyone will rush out to see it. But, people will see it over time. It's not going to be an upfront film- I can tell you that straight off. Plus, Carrell is not present, thus expect it to similarly have to find it's audience back- which it will undoubtably do.

It's not 40 year old virgin 2. Thus, it will run the same but nobody sees it as 40 Year Old Virgin 2.

"Knocked up" is the only movie in the list can be considered a sleeper.
Barely, as it's a movie by the makers of one of the most successful comedies in years.

Probably not.

That's why I picked Transformers.
