Smoking bans: Good or Bad?

I'm guessing you had a relative die of lung cancer. Guess what, a lot of smokers have, as do a lot of non-smokers who would rather give people the freedom of choice than live in a healthy but supressed society.

Anyway Strange, I hate smoking more than you do. The hate doesn't enter in to it though regarding legislation.

I don't smoke and ultimately I don't like being around people who smoke but as far as bars and clubs go, smoking is sort of part of the experience. I'm almost disappointed if I come home from a concert and don't smell like smoke. But even so, ultimately I think smoking bans are a good thing.

Again, I just say that if a place allows children, then smoking should not be allowed. But as far as I'm concered if the bans included bars and casinos then its up to the smoker and establishment owners to fight that not me. Whatever gets a smoking ban in public places where kids are allowed the fastest is what I would vote for. Again, I know I'm selfish but I have my reasons.

Nothing in moderation is going to really hurt you. Alcohol is very mentally addictive, as is eating junk food. If we're going to ban things that are addictive, and very detrimental to health when not done in strict moderation, ban them all. Or better yet, don't ban any of them.

Way to make a generalization based on a single case there. It is VERY mentally addictive. This is quite a well known medical fact.

I'm not the only one, I got friends who are sort of like me so it's hardly based of just me and I said some people can't handle drinking alcohol even have a few idiots relatives that are addictive to it

It's more than a few, Morg. It's certainly enough for it to be a well-backed up statement in the medical community. It's mentally addictive in general.

I'm speaking only for myelf here. My main reason for being against smoke isn't just because I hate 2nd hand smoke because like everybody has pointed out already; if you don't like it, f'in leave the establishment where the smokers are. My main thing is that I can't think of a legit reason to smoke. The smokers say that it relieves stress. That's great and all, but if I could make all you smokers quit while reducing stress in your lives so you wouldn't want to smoke, I would. I don't care if I sound like a sap, but I hate seeing people engage in harmful recreation. I always get into it with Calvin for smoking, not cuz I dislike him or wanna bust his chops, I just hate seeing anybody 'kill themselves"...and pay so much for it too.

I hope I sounded less like a facist and more like somebody who cares about people(way more than he probably should).

If someone wants to light up a cigarette, I won't stop them.
