Smoking bans: Good or Bad?

I can understand this to a point but it is also sad when a person wants to go to a public place but are not able to because smoking is allowed and it affects them physically. By allowing smoking in public places you are taking away the freedom of people who want clean air to breathe.

It is my point, and it is why I would agree to a smoking ban. My question to you is why should a bad habit that affects not only the person but also the people around them be allowed in public? I guess it really only comes down to human decency.

Then I didn't miss you point at all. We already covered this ground, we're talking about letting BARS and RESTAURANTS decide whether they want smoking or not. If you don't like the smoke, don't go to those bars and resaurants, go to a different one. There are TONS of them in america. If you're in a focused public place, fine, no smoking. There are parks in my city were smoking isn't allowed, and we don't smoke there.

Again, I'm not talking about isolated public places, I'm talking about all public places. Also I'm am just trying to tell my opinion and get other peoples opinion. I'm not starting a flame war or bashing people for smoking, 70% of my family smokes as well as a lot of my friends, most respect my feelings and don't smoke around me and the others I just stay away from. As far as bars and casinos, I don't frequent those places enough to care about them. But maybe there are people who do and don't care for the smoking there, they should be able to go there without being affected by some elses bad habit that can cause health problems to them. I just want opinions. And if Wilhelm has the same opinion as you then thats fine but that does not mean everyone shares that same opinion.

If it's a public place that isn't 'heavily frequented, you're not being affected by smokers much at all. I remember being a non-smoker in the city, unless it was inside, or in a heavily frequented place like a park, the smoking is no more noticible in the air than say, car fumes.

You are correct, I have been to Vegas several times and some of the casinos pump air freshner into the air to drown out the smell of smoke, the Mirage does this. So some places that allow smoking, it is almost unnoticable and that is great. But again, if a ban comes on the ballot I will vote for it. If smoking was not allowed in any public places, i would not have a problem with it because I don't smoke. If other people want the bans to allow certian isolated places to have smoking then it is up to them to fight for it not me.

I've been to Germany twice and as far as I know they are no longer nazi Germany. And Germany is a very beautiful country and everyone I came in contact with were very nice and polite. Of course if I had a time machine I guess I could go back and experience nazi Germany but I might think of better places to visit.

A driving ban is not as easy to fix as a smoking ban but I would support government support for more fuel effeicent and less polluting cars.

I'm not lying about anything. I said if it came on a ballot to vote on a complete public ban then I would vote for it. If that same ballot had two proposals, 1. for a complete ban and 2. for a ban in all places where people under 21 would frequent then I would vote for number 2 because more than likely I would not go to any of those places like a bar or casino. But I do not like smoking and it is my right to vote for a ban. It is not my fault that lawmakers want all or nothing, maybe there are not enough smokers out there putting up the good fight, but I will not fight for them and their habits that clearly affect other people. Now if I wanted to fight for smokers rights and only wanted to vote for a partial ban, then I might be waiting a long time for lawmakers to get it right. Just my opinion and I welcome others without bashing them
