I don't think Star Trek's opening weekend will be that big. I don't even think it'll make that much money overall. Its too sci-fi for general audiences. General audiences like action.

I consider Star Trek to be a mild threat to Wolverine.

*Terminator is the problem.

Have you seen the trailers for Star Trek? The reviews suggest that it is non-stop action--the first for any Star Trek film. Don't underestimate it's appeal. In addition, the reviews for Star Trek have been stellar--especially regarding the characterization, humanity and acting prowess of the cast. Do you expect Wolverine to get similar glowing reviews?

To me, it's not about the opening weekend--it's about legs. I don't think Wolverine will have any...and I think Star Trek and Terminator are going to dominate May.

Abrams is a talented man. I think Star Trek will bite a big chunk out of Wolverine and I am not a Star Trek fan what-so-ever and this movie actually looks good. It is a reboot so to speak so you don't have to be a fan to enjoy that movie. With that big movie opening the weekend after Wolverine, most of Wolverine's box office will be stamped out.

Then again, just because it's a good movie, don't mean it's gonna make lots of money... I think it will do fine, and hope for more, I'm not a treky either but I am a big fan of Sci-Fi. With all the films being released in may, it makes me wonder, is there enough money to spread all around...and I think...yeah maybe. We'll see, but just because there are a couple options doesn't mean one is going to stomp out the other. Infact, having 2 attractive movies could actually work in their favor.

Most of the people that will want to see Wolverine will see it the first week, same for Star Trek. When there are no new movies coming out then some people get bored and watch that first movie over again. This is not the case unless a movie has good legs and you get good legs from tons of repeat viewings and great word of mouth and Wolverine won't have a lot of either so therefore the new big movie opening the following week will stamp out Wolverine's box office.

Wishful thinking.

You think Wolverine will beat Star Trek to be number 1 two weeks in a row? No. Wolverine will have a huge drop off like X3 because of a new movie opening and bad wom that leads to less repeat viewings.

We'll see who's right in 4 weeks.
Care to make a friendly wager? If I win, you have to put "chaseter was right." in your signature in a size 6 black font. If you win then I will do the same saying that you were right? Care to wager?

I'm game.

Wolverine stays at #1 for 2 weeks in a row.

*How long do you wanna keep the losing signature up?

Can I put something in my signature...like "night0205 is a #^%@$&# moron!"... if i lose that is...

I did the poll wrong, I thought it meant OW :hehe: So I choice put $80-$100 mill.

But I think it'll get at least $200mill over there.

I'm not sure what Wolverine's domestic box office gross will end up at however, I'm 100% positive there's no way it holds on to the #1 spot. X-Men 3 got knocked out of the #1 spot by a forgettable comedy during the second weekend. Most of the co-workers are talking about seeing Star Trek in a few weeks. Unless Wolverine gets great word of mouth there's no way it will beat out one of the most anticipated sci-fi movies of the year.

I'm actually surprised so many people voted over $250 mill. I hope it does, then we'll get a DP spin off :D

This movie will make more than x1...the first 10 minutes of the movie alone has more action than all of x1. I don't see it making more than x3 or x2 though

I expect the Orgins to outdo Startrek because it's opening will be much better but I think that StarTrek will have the better legs and reception. Here are my(not final) predictions for the openings:

X-Men Orgins: Wolverine 87mil. (I could easily see 100mil)
StarTrek 48mil. (I could see it surprising my totally tanking in it's opening weekend or blowing up)

I'm actually surprised that StarTrek is tracking as well as it is as I thought it was looking like another SpeedRacer.
