So...whats happening with John Singleton?

I remember he couldn't make up his mind whether he would do Luke Cage or Black Panther. What's the situation on that? Has he made his choice yet?

Personally, I think he could do both. Luke Cage would suit his usual style, especially when he does action, and Black Panther could be more of a challange for him, something that would be much greater in terms of scope.

I agree, I love Singletons work, and I do believe he could pull off both. But I feel that maybe he should do Luke Cage first. We know he can do action, and that he'll make it nice and gritty. If he can pull that type of comic movie, then I'll feel more comfortable about Black Panther.

But if they wanted to make the movies at the same time, and wanted another director. I'd say Antwon Fuquia would be a great choice for Black Panther.

Sad to say that even though luke cage (michael jai white/tyrese/terry crews) could be done with a budget of $25-40 mill maximum, i dont think we will see a cage movie until 2012...(or later). I wish Black Panter (Chiwetel Ejifor) sp? would get the greenlight BUT it's an EXPENSIVE movie, AFRICA/Exotic locations etc...easily $100 mill plus... John Singleton expressed interest in this also besides Tim Story...

Maybe cage could have a cameo at the end of the avengers....too much to ask for?

I dont think its too much to ask for but i doubt it'd happen!

Last I heard of John was he was approached to do Black Panther. I'm hoping John does Black Panther first. Or somebody to do it before a Luke Cage film. Black Panther is a King, a genuis, and a political leader. I wanna see a Black Superhero like that first. I love Luke Cage but he was a former gangster that ended up in prison. Not a good look for a Black Superhero. Handcock already did that. And I don't wanna see that again next.

And I agree that John seems more suited for Cage.

Singleton dropped out of A-Team. Wouldnt be surprised if he came back to one of these properties. To tell the truth though, I havent really like his work except for Four Brothers.

he has moved on from A-Team... I think he may be frustrated with current Marvel hierarchy, their priorities are heavily involved in Iron Man 2, Avengers, and Thor.. A Power Man movie may likely be viewed as a "modest budget" film by Marvel brass, and Singleton may balk at that.. he might need Bendis to advocate for an Iron Man type budget..

True, power man/luke cage budget should not be over $40 mill. Maybe Luke Cage should be done 1st to show a Black hero can turn a profit (again), if it hits $100 mill I am sure Black Panther will be moved up to marvel's priority list.

BTW, too bad Terrance Howard blew it with marvel...he was the PERFECT choice for Diamondback which was the main villian in the script for Cage.

BUT the punisher and the hulk were given a 2nd chance. Conspiracy? Who knows, either way it seems that if it's a black character, he BETTER make a great profit if the character wants to see sequel. Sorry there aren't more example's to prove this....

Why? Because Blade almost doubled its budget. Blade did fine as a franchise and arguably started this whole thing. The only other black superhero not made for film anyway I can think of that has made it to screen is Spawn, which was just bad. I dont see why Cage or Panther should be looked at as risks.

BUt not doing them now, and being a risk are 2 different things. Id say both Panther and Cage are not priorities now based on Marvels process right now.

Its all about getting IM2, Thor, and Cap out and then crossing them over with Avengers.

But after a Avengers I woudlnt be surprised if Panther or Cage come up. I think after Avengers is done, Marvel would act more opportunistic than making future plans, as in if a filmmaker shows interest in a particular project they'll probably just start planning. Obviously they'll still prioritize but the priorities would be much more loose allowing change if a particular project gains speed.

Hulk and Punisher are much more famous titles than Blade, which is known to most people as just a Wesley Snipes movie series.

Also, Goyer wrote himself into a corner of suck with the third one. The next logical step was television....which they did. (I never watched it but I'm sure it was bad)

Ronny u didn't miss ANYTHING by not seeing the blade t.v. series....yep, it was that bad, my soul hurt everytime there was a fight scene or sticky muttered lines....

If Cage may not get greenlit for 3 yrs, who knows there might be some new black guy on the scene who can handle the role. (for now tyrese, jai white and terry crews seem to be the top 3 choices....no damn L.L. Cool J...i do NOT want CAGE licking his lips and rapping!!)

John Singleton is overrated in my view. I like Poetic Justice but the rest I am iffy about.

I think they should look for an actor before they find a director. John Singleton isn't the best choice for director, I think someone else should be sought out first.

And does Marvel have the rights to these properties or not?
