To answer your questions:
I don't think they are that interested because they don't have the same tolerance for changes to the source material that I do. Shoot, I even got into an argument with my brother the other night because he was talking about how Jackman wasn't Logan because he's too tall.
The other thing is that I have told them about all of the Deadpool rumors - and even when I was telling them about how Deadpool was supposed to transform into true to the source material Deadpool, they still didn't buy it and weren't satisfied. After showing my brother the 2nd trailer that had Deadpool shooting optic blasts, the words out of my brother's mouth was "They are going to f--- it up"
Although he did get geeked up when I showed him the TV spot with kid Logan in the 1800's first discovering his bone claws, and impaling Thomas Logan.
After seeing the film, why I think they won't like it is for my brother, the movie isn't anywhere near as gritty and dark as it should be. My brother feels that Logan has been way too tame in the movies, and his berserker rage side hasn't been showcased enough. I don't think this movie is really any different, and when it does get violent, it's still eye candy type of violence, not viscious and gory type of action.
As for my brother's friend, I think he's one of those types of guys that doesn't really accept comic book films outside of The Dark Knight and the Spiderman flicks. Last time I talked to him about the movie, he was already complaining about the X-Men films with Nightcrawler, X-Men: The Last Stand, Psylocke, etc... and was complaining about how weak of a character that Gambit is.
I could very well be misjudging my brother's friend, as I don't know him as well obviously, and he could be yanking my chain on the whole Gambit thing as he knows how big of a Gambit fan I am, but for my brother, he'll go see it, and he's interested, but not hugely interested and I don't think he'll like it very much.
So basically your brother is a pretty big comic fan and is less forgiving then a lot of us. I didn't know if he was a comic fan or more on the general audience member side of things.
Your brother and his friend remind me of my younger sister(who I got into comics, especially X-men). She's hardcore about changes and actually full on hated even Singer's films including X-2. Part of it was because Rogue is her favorite character and she has a deep hate for Anna Paquin now for ruining the character.
