I think if you grew up playing Sonic Adventure 1-2... it's pretty much the best Sonic movie you could ask for. There was a definite love for those games in this movie. It really made me happy to experience it in theaters. I've seen all 3 in theaters, this is the one I would plan another trip to the cinema if someone asked.

I played SA2 on both Dreamcast and GCN so this one definitely hit some awesome nostalgic beats.

I really enjoyed Sonic 2 a lot as well tbh. But the Knuckles TV series... man, they dropped the ball on that one.

Sonic 1: 7/10 (Solid entry, but could have used more Sonic lore.)

Sonic 2: 8/10

Sonic 3: 9/10

Knuckles TV series is like a 4 or 5 out of 10.

This movie definitely deserves to be the top earning Sonic movie, imo. I hope it is. I doubt we ever see a Sonic movie crack close to a billion though. But you never know.

This should play very well internationally. It's got range of appeal for both kids and adults. I'm looking forward to seeing the box office numbers for this international.

Curious about the Japan numbers. Is Sonic ad popular in Japan as it is in the USA? I've honestly never looked into it.

Sonic 1 and 2 only did about a million and half in Japan. A good performance in Japan tends to be $10-15 million.

Watching this after Kraven the Hunter was a heck of a palette cleanser I tell ya what.

If you want to make a good video game movie, start by respecting the source material. This is the model.

I saw robo sonic and said ok…clearly they think the main demo is boys and they wouldn’t be interested in Amy but I really wanted to see her and then when I saw that hammer, my husband and I lept up and screamed! All day he kept saying “Amy “

One thing that I think this movie really does well is giving Shadow his own agency as a character.

In SA2 its revealed that Gerald had tampered with Shadow's memories and they ultimately get restored when he talks to Amy and remembers Maria's wish. It gives him plausible deniability in Gerald's scheme to destroy the Earth by making Shadow a victim of Gerald's machinations. Then we get the Post Fall Amnesia in Heroes and so on.

With the movie, by removing Maria's wish/promise to her, he becomes more responsible for his choices. Yes Gerald still gaslights him a fair amount, but Shadow comes to the conclusion that he went to far and needs to fix his mistake. Plus by giving Amnesia in regards to wear he came from before crashing to earth, you can still play the amnesia card but also avoid a lot of the standard amnesia tropes that he suffered in Heroes and Shadow 05.
