I'd say so, two successful films with huge Box Office success and more on the way with a confirmed third film in development plus spinoff series with Knuckles.
I think if they go past 3, they may need to time skip ahead a few years where Sonic is ready to live on his own. You could still have him visit his human family when he gets in over his head and maybe needs some guidance. But they could keep it limited to just a few short sincere scenes. That is, if they keep him on Earth. I wouldn't mind if he ends up going to planets more akin to the comics and games.
8/10 for me. I really enjoyed it. It had a few things that could have been readjusted and tweaked. The nods to the various parts of Sonic's franchise history (As well as a couple of subtle pokes regarding a former Sonic comic writers works) was wonderful.
Only critiques I could offer was the score was rather mid to forgettable which is sad because the franchise's music is so god damn iconic. Seriously Paramount bring in Jun Senoue to write the music.
Especially now that Shadow has been introduced. GIVE ME ORCHESTRAL LIVE AND LEARN OR GIVE ME DEATH!
Also I wish we could have gotten more of James and Tika adventuring with Sonic & Tails as opposed to off doing their own thing. I like them as characters and wish they were along for the ride as opposed to a pick up 2/3 of the way through the movie.
Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were amazing. Ben, Colleen and Idris did a stand out job. You could tell all three were invested and none of them phoned it in. Plus their animation was top tier.
I enjoyed it. It knows what it is and does it well. Some of the jokes are too cheesy to work but it has a lot of heart. As an avid player of Sonic 2 and 3, I really appreciated all the references, especially the air bubbles under water.
I also really appreciated we got long stretches where there wasn’t a single live actor on screen. They treated the characters as their own story and not just there to service the human story. I can’t imagine that’s easy to direct so props to Fowler for doing a great job with it.
The Hawaii wedding plot was fine. I got some chuckles from it, especially after the twist is revealed. Tika keeps getting more and more hot in these movies.
Knuckles reminds me of Drax from the first Guardians. Doesn’t really get metaphor or humor, which makes him funnier. I hope he and Tails aren’t sidelined for the sequel.
My only question is where does Sonic keep getting rings from? I thought he only had a few left after the first one and then he lost them all in this movie in Siberia.

After sat the opening weekend number went up again to 71 million. My guess was 70 so I may be pretty close. First movie end at 315 million and had it's legs cut of a little faster then normal because of COVID. With more legs and with 12 million or so more opening weekend and the fact the OS numbers for the places where it came out the week before USA where up 2% from first movie maybe the movie can make 400 world wide.
I wouldn't mind it. Or Rouge the Bat. Shoot, I'd love to see Chaos too. Silver the Hedgehog down the road too....they have a plethora of characters that will be fun to see in movies.
When is the Knuckles show suppose to release? I really don't want another streaming service... but I may get it for that show.

I think they're aiming for 2023 but they haven't said much other than it leads into Sonic 3.
These are the characters I expect to show up:
Sonic & Tails: With the way the second movie ended it would make sense for them to have bookend appearances in the first and last episode.
Tikal: IMO one of SEGA's most under used characters. Given the fact that her father Pachacamac was the one to shoot LC. I could see her used as Knuckles child hood friend in Flashbacks. But then the question becomes: what happened to her?
Rouge the Bat: Rouge is the perfect antagonist for a Knuckles show. Plus I wanna see the internet burn with rage over Bat Tiddies XD
The Chaotix: They first debuted in Knuckles spin off game back in the day (except for Mighty who debuted earlier and Vector whose design goes back to OG Sonic) so it would make sense for their cinematic debut to be with Knuckles.
The Hooligans: A bit of a reach I must say but Fang, Bean and Bark would be perfect hired muscle for Rouge to use. My dream cast: Timothy Olyphant as Fang, Ryan Reynolds as Bean and Kevin Smith as Bark.
If you want to get technical, Detective Pikachu broke the curse first.
Also, I don't think one movie is enough to break the curse considering what we've had with Uncharted, Resident Evil Welcome to Racoon City, and Mortal Kombat all within the last year.

The first Sonic movie only made $4 million more than Detective Pikachu domestically and Detective Pikachu made $433 million worldwide vs. $319 million for Sonic. It didn't bomb.
Also, Detective Pikachu is 68% on Rotten tomatoes vs. 67% for Sonic 2 and 63% for Sonic 1. So reviews were of a fairly comparable level.

I just got home, and I’d give it a solid 7/10. I’d say only about 50% of the jokes worked, but the characters really carried the film, all had a lot of good chemistry. Of course, Carrey steals the show, even the jokes that didn’t land with him were still enjoyable just by how much fun it looked like he was having. I’m not really a Sonic fan, never completely beaten a single game, but never hated him, and I really like these films.
Given the Shadow tease, I wonder if we’ll get Amy in Part 3 as well? Kinda makes sense, given the first film was Sonic finding a family, the sequel was Sonic finding friends, I could see them setting up Sonic looking towards his future.

I have a feeling if Rouge ends up in the Knuckles show, she ends up with a re-design lol. But who knows. I loved Team Chaotix in "Sonic Heroes" always thought Espio was cool. Vector... who voices him? Tikal would be sweet, especially if they can tease Chaos. The Hooligans, I'm not sure I remember them.
