The 2.1 had Raimi's input. He picked the scenes he thought would be fun for fans to see. He was NOT interested in doing that with this release. So Sony could NOT follow that formula.

Last news. Fans who got an early copy verify the Digibook has the Editor's cut. Not just the 5 movie Legacy Steelbook.
This was 99% assumed anyway but now is proven.

It may be faulty memory (it's been a while) but I never got the impression that Raimi was anything but passively involved in 2.1. The theatrical version was his baby, and the extended cut was always just an excuse to cash in.If I remember correctly, he wasn't even present for the "Making of" feature for it.

I don't think he was needed to follow the same formula for 3.1. The 'Editor's Cut' misses what makes people excited for alternate editions, the deleted scenes and extended action sequences.

That said, Sony could have easily just added a bunch of deleted scenes to the bonus disc.

I guess it's in Sony's interest to promote Homecoming now instead of a 10 yr old movie that wasn't that well received anyway. Still, I hope for a SM3.1 with all the deleted scenes added in. Maybe for the 20th anniversary?

If anything, all this looking back at SM3 reminds me of how comic accurate Sandman looks.

No, during all this 3.1/editor's cut discussion someone posted an interview with Raimi where he discusses how Sony persuaded him to do the 2.1 and he was actively involved in picking the added scenes. He did it.

Of course I agree that Sony should have included deleted scenes from all three SM movies. No one is against that. But for some reason that we don't know they never did show any other than those in the alternate cuts.

2.1's additions were mainly good though, so I actually like that cut of the movie a lot. Who knows what they were thinking with 3.1.

Hmm. Yeah. I got the digi-book and just put in the code to get the digital copies, made my account and everything.


Spider-Man 1,2,2.1 and 3 are there but no Editor's Cut. Sucks because the Editor's Cut is what I wanted on my computer so I could take the added scenes and share them.

Could someone compile a list of deleted scenes that aren't in the Editors Cut?

The ones we know were filmed are:

-Sandman intimidates Penny's doctor
-Peter sees Venom in his mirror
-Brock visits the Stacy house
-Alternate Venom/Sandman team up
-Mary Jane's forgiveness speech to Harry
-Penny at the construction site

A Venom skull prop turned up online and suggests the alternate finale from the novelisation was at least partially shot. I believe a location shot of Oscorp is out there too; this was most likely for a scene from the same novelisation where Peter attempts to speak to Harry but is not granted access.

There's a few bits and pieces of extended footage out there too: An extra beat in the subway fight where Spidey is hitting Sandman with a 2x4, a gag between Peter and a child during the Spider-Man celebration, Brock's extended rant at the church. There were rumours of a Harry/Venom fight sequence at the construction site, but I'm not sure where they came from.

I watched the Editor's Cut this morning - Overall, it sucks. The added content is so minimal. There's only one scene in it that's completely new, that's beautiful, that you wish was in the final cut.

The scene with Harry's butler is cut and replaced with another, which is better, but two great scenes from the theatrical were cut from this version. Disappointing.

I don't know why they would dig up one big deleted scene and a few other small bits and not go all out to release everything else that's out there.

The butler scene being gone was a big improvement for me.

Having Harry look at the broken photo was a lot more powerful and simpler, should have kept that.
