The Amazing Spider-Man "SPIDER-MAN 4 Production on Indefinite Hold "....NOT!...or Maybe?

Well here is to hoping the Venom spin off doesn't suck.

Heh you think the Venom movie will actually make it into production? After what has just happened to Spider-Man?

I think Raimi and everyone should just drop it. **** number 4 off. Leave Spidey for a few years then start again.

I am absolutely furious if the studio considers The Lizard too farfetched to be the main villain.

I just don't see The Vulture that compelling of a villain. Never did, never will. I certainly don't have an interest watching a full-length motion picture with him as the main bad guy.

its not a cas of being far fetched, the insider said they (sony) don't want lizard because they want a 'human' face. sony really haven't got a CLUE

new actors, sure but not a reboot. if there is a reboot then they will retread the 'a' list spidey villians so lizard will probably happen near the end of the decade. **** that!

The Lizard and Kraven would be a perfect story for a sudden reboot as a first film for a new vision. It could encompass the horror of experimentation and becoming a mutant or a superhuman and dealing with your super hero persona while protecting your friend and mentor and dealing with your inner demons of the beast you may become.

Fo me the Lizard would have not worked in this already established franchise, because of the similarities the Doc Ock character had in SM2 ergo such an iconic character should be changed completely, again.

But think of it, how well would this work for a reboot. Something similar 'The Incredible Hulk' did. They shouldn't do the origin like the first film did, but scenes from the origin could flash throughout the film alongside Curt Connors' transformation into a monster. Spidey could very well deal and fear his potential change into a monster while still trying to save his friend from the mutation he's undergoing and save him from Kraven who would experiment on himself with some super soldier serum that enhances his abilities.

I believe this would work for a reboot story, because it would be a fresh start. They would use villains never done before and yet villains who fit for a start film, dealing with the theme of transformation and mutation. Also the tone of the film would be much serious and darker, let's see how that works for a change. A new universe would be established with Gwen as Peter's love interest, but nothing too deep. I think characters like MJ, Harry and Norman should not be mentioned at all, and introduce Harry and Norman later on, let's say in part 2.. don't rush with MJ though. Establish Jonah Jamesson as a very complex character, a friend of Peter and yet a potential villain for Spidey, one who would finance Spider-Slayer project and the Scorpion later on. Spidey should exit the realm of realism and audiences should expect a comic adaptation film that exists within it's own universe.. that is the rich SF universe created throughout the history and I think that now is the best time for them to think and incorporate that on film.

Which doesn't make any sense because GG had his face covered the whole time except for when he died. A villain doesn't need to have a human face in order to be a good villain. Darth Vader anyone?

And they want to make a Venom movie also. So everytime Venom and Carnage speak are they gonna uncover their faces?

And apparently they're worried about how the Lizard will looking fake and cartoony but it's okay WHEN THEY DECIDED TO MAKE SANDMAN A GIANT MONSTER THE SIZE OF STAY PUFT.

Does not compute.

Seriously, the amount of fail surrounding this is disturbing.

It's really not that hard to make a decent Spidey movie I don' think.

I realize Raimi wanted to end his time on the franchise with a high note, but I think he needs to move on.
Totally agree.

I would imagine this is the beginning of the end.
Exactly.

I can wait to find out what Vanderbilt's script is all about. Hopefully that stuff gets leaked ASAP, for those interested of course.
I certainly hope so too... I am very interested to see what approach they were planning to take with the villains, Pete & MJ's relationship, possibly what new supporting characters used, and of course, the story motivation and situation.

Well here is to hoping the Venom spin off doesn't suck.
Amen, brother!

I think the production studios just like the sound of "summer blockbuster" more than "Winter hit" or something. I just realized that Thor, Cap and GL are all slated to come out that year. Damn 2011 is gonna be one hell of a year for comic fans.
It mostly have to do with the kids, out of schools, family summer days off, and the fact films are more accessible at all times for patrons because of summer. I also saw a thing on TLC years ago that said concession sell better in the summer more than any other time of the year... pretty obvious there.

I've never heard of a franchise that has done as well as Spider-man financially, be completely rebooted. I guess Batman is the closest, but Batman 4 completely killed that franchise. Spider-man 3 was nothing near that horrid piece of crap. If they get new actors, fine, but we don't want to watch another origin story, with another green goblin, because the first time was good enough.
I agree, SM3 is nowhere near as horrid as BF; however they do need to re-boot... and there is a way to do that without re-telling the origin again.

Heh you think the Venom movie will actually make it into production? After what has just happened to Spider-Man?
I do... Sony may need a tentpole if SM4 is shelved for a length of time.

I think Raimi and everyone should just drop it. **** number 4 off. Leave Spidey for a few years then start again.
Exactly... and there is no doubt that if Sam is released, Tobey & Kirstin would be gone as well. So that may just happen.

Not necessarily... I totally disagree. However, it does depend on who is helming the franchise and their understand of the characters and usage of them.

Venom isn't tent pole material.

And Batman Forever is much better than SM3.

I saw John Hurt give an interview not too long ago and he was talking about when he was nominated for a oscar for the elephant man. An American film producer told him no american actor would of took that role because the audience would not of seen his face

Goes to show studio execs and producers think.

not it isn't. that movie was frigging RUBBISH.
the '89 batman movie was overrated, the sequel was dull as s*** and the less said but the schumacher movies the better.
people go way overboard with SM3, it was disappointing but it had serious action (which the pre BB movie lacked) and some cool moments as well (birth of sandman).

they can keep aunt may, jjj, robbie and curt conners everyone else can go.

it's funny how disposable these franchise are then.

I say, go ahead and get new actors later on, but don't 'reboot' it. Just continue the storyline.

Continue the storyline in SM4, then shed continuity in SM5-6. Bring back Brock if you want to do Venom. Work Doc Ock back into the mix, slowly but surely. Maybe leave out the Goblins, although Hopgoblin is another possibility. Just really loose sequels. Don't even call it SM4. Call it Amazing Spiderman, and attach tag lines like POTC and HP. SM4/5/6 are pretty unimaginative titles.

More harry potter and transformers?? Ugh

Harry Potter has been slated for a summer 2011 release since March 2008, when it was announced that the filmmakers decided to split the final book into two movies. Paramount staked out the release date for Transformers 3 before the second one even came out.

Summer 2011 looks like an exciting year for sequels and "new" properties like Thor, GL and Captain America.

calling it amazing spider-man rather than SM4 is a great idea.

new peter
new mj
and go with the lizard storyline, c'mon dylan has been waiting for his chances for two movies.

"Just think, if we had gotten Vulture and Sandman in SM3 and Venom hadn't been shoehorned in, Sony would have an obvious choice of villain who could easily carry a film on his own for SM4. Shortsightedness, Sony. Shortsightedness."

This is one of the best replies Ive read in this threat... and its absolutely true even (though I hate Venom).

I loved the first 2 movies, but with Thor, Batman3, Capt America...etc on the horizon... Im starting to think that letting Spiderman die is may be for the best if studio interference is gonna be a problem.

Irony is theyll prob bring in another director and promise them complete creative control. Why not just give it to Raimi. After all, he did a great job on the first 2.

Rebooting Spiderman is silly.

Well in Batman Forever at least the main character actually acted like the main character.

The exchange with Bruce and Dick about revenge and what it can do to a man and Bruce opening up about the death of his parents to Chase is better than ANYTHING in SM3

we're going to have to agree to disagree on that on as I think the pre batman begins batman movies are almost unwatchable.

That's cool I guess. The movie companies see dollar signs in there pupils so they're ready to cash in. Even if its so soon on those franchises. Im really excited about the new Franchises that could start with the latter you listed. Should be a hell of a year.

I´m sick of the current obsession with wanting to reboot everything at any side of trouble. This is not a franchise that has been ruined with no redemption in its current form. Batman seriously needed a fresh start, so did James Bond, so did Star Trek. There´s nothing so inherently wrong with Raimi´s take on the franchise that you need to restart everything from scratch again. If the studio can´t make up their mind on who the villain should be, that´s gonna be a problem regardless of the director and crew.

I agree fully.

IMO Raimi's version is pretty much done. The grasping at villans like Vulture is a sign of it. Like it or not ,this version of the francise is going to end, whether it's after part 4 or if there isn't a Spiderman 4. The fact that Sony is already getting ready for a reboot with 5 and 6 is a sign that writing is on the wall guys.

Spiderman 4 ,if it does happen, will most likely be Raimi and Co's send off anyway, and it's unlikely they'll try to continue the story with same versions of the characters. This version of the series isn't gonna go on and on.

Well I dont see the Vulture at "grasping".

You dont know what he had planned for the character.

I would prefer Lizard and Kraven and then Electro. But Vulture doesnt have me thinking its the end of the franchise.

Its his opinion. Obviously not one the studio shares... but if history has shown anything, its tha the studio suits are idiots who really know very little about the properties they own or how to handle them.

Which is why youre supposed to hire great creative teams, then stay the hell out of their way while they do what you hired them to do.

"More harry potter and transformers?? Ugh"

While I despise Transformers, I think Potter is a example of exactly how to handle your franchises.
