Spider-Man: Edge of Time - Part 2

Back after a couple of days vacation. Some thoughts about all the news.

Trailer was cool, this is the first time the story in the game has actually sounded interesting. Black Cat being the villain reveal is lame, but whatever. The variety in gameplay is encouraging, and the collectibles does seem better. The Flash newspaper story line is way better than anything you could collect in SD, and could turn out to be the most worthwhile collectible in a Spider-Man game yet.

All in all, I'm excited. It does seem to be turning out great, even if I have a few reservations about a couple of things.

Very true. Last year's Comic-Con revealed Carnage, Deadpool, and Vulture.

There better be some juicy spoilers they don't want to reveal.

Yah, I was at least hoping some new reveal would peak my interest, but nope.

How are they copying AA format? and btw why is everyone so obsessed with Arkham Asylum?

okay it was a good game it felt like batman we don't need every super hero copying what they did or it will grow stale very quickly

Spider-Man: Edge of Time and Captain America: Super Soldier are copying AA with the platform of being inside one area, but we don't want a game to COPY AA; we want a game that will feel like the developers are doing their best in making the best kind of game for that specific hero and so far, AA is the only worthwhile superhero game with giving us a great visual feast, a great story, nostalgic voices and amazing bits and pieces strictly for the fans that really have nothing to do with the game itself(the bios). Now, Shattered Dimensions ALMOST accomplished this, but the story was awful. Not to mention, we need that grade-A Spidey game with 616 Green Goblin.

And...yes, it's(Arkham Asylum) a GREAT game.

i'm sure there will be more villains then Anti-venom and 2099 black cat ;)

He didn't mean it like that. He just meant we received more reveals during last Comic-Con for SD. There's, hopefully, no way EOT would only give us three villains in the form of Walker Sloan, Anti-Venom and Black Cat 2099.

how refreshing that batman didn't copy anything then -.-

it really grinds my gears that Batman AA is this wonder child that came out of complete ingenuity that didn't copy anything and therefore everything that has the same building/zone uses stealth or takedowns is an outright copy of AA mechanics

and notice i'm not taking any of the games credit it's good, good voice acting good collectibles, nice challenge maps...

but it's not something they needed to think outside the box for... so many games before them used these same mechanics right...

the only thing they did was do pick the ones that fit a batman game and do them right

Rocksteady did not re-invent the wheel they just made a nice one!

and the fact that other's are doing it like the cap game is that it work's it's a format and even the cap game if i'm not mistaken starts in the trenches only later does it open up more...

i don't want Spider-man : The Arkham Asylum Experience

i don't want rocksteady to make Spider-man games

i just want for people to stop worrying about what ripps off what and enjoy what is given to them!

and btw wan't to get picky? Batman copied Dead Rising for being all in one area :O

portal was just in the aperture science facility

Dead Space all in the Ishimura

and i can quote features for every aspect of AA

i don't mind it's a great game.... but stop talking like it's something completly new and fresh...

it's a good batman experience an excelent game... that's it!

Edit: I don't see how you can see that SD level design is anything close to AA...(in terms of similarities)

A game doesnt have to be new and fresh to set the bar. We've seen other elements that make up Arkham Asylum before, but put together in Batmans world? No, we havent seen anything close to that. Batman: Arkham Asylum has done the one thing that no recent Spider-Man game as been able to do, which is make the player feel like they are the title character. Outside of the first time that i played SM2, i have yet to feel like Spider-Man in his titles. If you want to look at a game that would be good for Spider-Man, i say look at inFamous 2. Thats an open world game thats able to craft a brilliant story without tossing horribly redundant side missions at the player.

When you look at EoT and then you look at AC, its so evident how far apart the titles are. One is going to release to mediocre scores, the other is going to release to GoTY talk. Its not that Beenox doesnt like the character, i just dont think they know how to craft a good experience around him. Its why we've gotten nothing but gimmick games from them.

Good Christ MrCitrin3, you're overreacting a bit much.

I never said we need a Spider-Man: Arkham Asylum, but we do need a game that feels like it's worth something more than just a cheap plot, which is what Edge of Time feels like.

Arkham Asylum did take in other ideas of games, sure, but it didn't cheapen, in any way, the whole experience of "being" Batman.

Plus...calm down once more man. I never said a game copying another game is bad, but you can't just sit there and say EOT and Captain America: Super Soldier didn't think of locking their heroes into one place was in a way similar to Arkham Asylum/Arkham City.

And plus, we need a Spidey OUTSIDE in the great New York.

You can't really say that EoT had what? a year dev time? comming from a not so good SD engine... what did you expect? we can't ask for miracles they did what they could

not batman had what? 2 3 years dev time... how can you even compare...

they don't but whatever i don't feel there is a need to compare everything to AA and since it came out it's all you see

i want superman games made by rocksteady why not give "insert comic book hero here" to rocksteady i want the "insert hero here" Arkham Asylum Experience! why is it the only company that know's what they're doing seems to be rocksteady? rocksteady i want to have your babies!

i'm so tired of it i really am...

and it might not seem that way but i'm perfectly calm and basking in my lasteste minecraft creation while i write this

Sure AC is a must buy this year

but how can you compare it to EoT that had half the dev time and came from a good title but not amazingly good? you get a decent game

sure i want a mind blowing spider-man game and beenox is on the right track the way i see it

it'll just get there slower since Activision doesn't give it the time to trully work on a game on the scale we want it to be!

and i dunno but did RS re-write AA engine? if not 2 years slightly better Gfx's same engine = loads of time to really make detailed level design etc

Spider-Man: Edge of Time and Captain America: Super Soldier are copying AA with the platform of being inside one area,
Which in turn copied Metal Gear Solid, Prince of Persia, etc

And annoying gameplay compared to AA, not as fun and well in control
Not to mention, we need that grade-A Spidey game with 616 Green Goblin.
Of course

why does nobody think that peter david can write a good story has anybody here read the death of jean dewolff or I'm I the only one. Also I would like to point out that metal gear solid did the in one location thing first so and that game was all about sneaking around.

And look somebody beat to my point. also I agree we need the green goblin done right and as the main villain.

Which in turn copied Metal Gear Solid, Prince of Persia, etc

You don't even need to go that far...

i don't care what games copy... aslong as it feels like spidey...

so if this game feels like spidey it's a step in the right direction

if not it's a step in the right direction in terms of other stuff not gameplay related...

but i can see it now if i made a game where you could punch bad guys in the face with real nice gfx's physics etc some *****e would say

pfft punching bad guys in the face is sooooo copied from Arkham City pfft!

Not questioning PAD's skills as a storyteller, I think Dan Slott is really good himself, but the game story left a bad taste in the mouths of lots of us, not certain PAD's greatness can make him less vulnerable

I'm not blaming Beenox for the development time as it's Activision's fault...what's so wrong for me to say "I want a GREAT Spider-Man game"? Should I just be fine and dandy with the games that we are getting? Sorry, but that's hard for me to do, I hate mediocrity.

And besides, bringing up AA doesn't exactly mean I, as well as others, want a Spidey game to be EXACTLY like AA. Batman: Arkham Asylum is our only comparison of what can be a great comic book game. Again, you're thinking too much into it when we bring up AA.

i want superman games made by rocksteady why not give "insert comic book hero here" to rocksteady i want the "insert hero here" Arkham Asylum Experience! why is it the only company that know's what they're doing seems to be rocksteady? rocksteady i want to have your babies!

You gotta love it when posters add words into your posts that you never said.

Saying we want an Arkham Asylum-like Spider-Man DOESN'T mean we want a Spider-Man game to be a carbon copy of AA. Lol, god you're dense. We say that because we want a game that will HONOR the Spidey franchise as much as Batman: Arkham Asylum honored the Batman franchise.

Which in turn copied Metal Gear Solid, Prince of Persia, etc And annoying gameplay compared to AA, not as fun and well in control Of course

Don't act like you're on his side in this argument, you know exactly what I mean whenever I bring up AA :whatever:

read it closely i didn't mean you -.-

and there is nothing wrong with wanting a great game... but given the things we are given and that we won't get a game with the AA stamp of aproval we need to look for the best in what to come

and i see potential in Beenox so i'll givem a couple more years to blow my mind

I see alot of potential in beenox as well but if the next game they do isn't different then I'm going to be mad.

Where is all the "potential" that Beenox posseses? Im not seeing it. Sure they gave us a SM game that was better than the recent titles but that's not saying much, at all. They still crafted a fairly mediocre title. The fun of SD ends at a few good animations and a lot of alt costumes. That's about it. I think Beenox is great at providing fan service, but that's about as far as it goes. So far they've given us uninspired gameplay and a lackluster story. That trend looks to continue in EoT.

well with all the great games that are to come till the end of the year even if it's just decent it will fill a nice hole after a beat AC and before i start Skyrim :D

By the way it sounds, spidey was better off at treyarch.....

Me too. the way I see it, after spidey goes back to open world it'll be pretty refreshing.

By the way it sounds, spidey was better off at treyarch.....
Not sure I agree, current devs expanded the trey of Spider-Man fans a bit, I think they did better

I hope the next game Beenox develops would take out the web hammer just as Pat said, it's not that entertaining

I'm gonna play beenox's spidey game regardless. But I think he is much better off in a well built and thought out new York. I have so many different ideas about how far spidey games could go, and honestly no one has really delved nearly as deep as they could.

And they wouldn't have delved any deeper had they with free-roam again. WoS probably was the worst and most shallow free-roam Spider-Man to date.
