Spider-Man: Edge of Time - Part 3

Spidey is one of the very few characters where free-roam is such a natural fit. His whole concept practically screams for free-roam. Not that linear games don't fit him, but an open world New York just clicks. The problem is that making a good free-roam game takes a lot of time.

Because. It's Spider-Man. How awesome was it having the freedom to swing around, and go anywhere in NYC in Spider-Man 2?

I'm not saying free roam is the only and best way to do a Spider-Man game, but it's one of the best ways to go about it.
I want a linear game with free roam swinging mechanics, though I'm more in favor of open world, I don't mind a linear game, just don't mess up the swinging mechanics
The problem is that it felt repetitive. They forced us to do side quests to unlock the new chapter of the story.
Web of Shadows removed that, sadly it has nothing more than ridiculously punching and hitting, with mild amount of rescuing people from falling or taking them to hospitals
In InFamous, that is optional. If the only thing we want to do in the game is to complete the story, we can do it and each mission is different. If they could do it for Spidey, then I want a free-roam game too.
Never played infamous, but I see where you're going, I love doing side quests when I'm not in the mood for story missions, I don't want to be forced performing them to unlock story missions
If EoT has good sales, then Activision might give more money to them to do a better game. Perhaps more time, too.

I want free roam swinging mechanics, they should apply that

maybe if eot does good they give beenox totall creative control?

The thing i hated most about open world spidey games is I didn't want to swing for five min. to get to the part of the story.

You'd think, but with the way Activision works, they'd see those good sales and say "look they love our game JUST the way it is, do it again". I mean look at the Tony Hawk series, the guitar hero series and the call of duty series. If you didnt know, 2 of those series have been canceled due to over saturation.

I'm starting to miss free roam...I dunno where that came from but I was just thinking about how I haven't played a free roam Spidey game in a while...better pop that SM2 game in soon.

I doubt it, but I hope the Amazing Spider-Man game, which will probably suck seeing as how the movie is 11 months away, is at least free roam. If not...I'm sad. Though I probably won't buy it without looking at reviews, and there is a good chance it will suck, but no free roam would still make me sad.

Im in the same boat man. I find myself looking toward the movie based tie hoping itll be free roam. Spidey deff needs to return to a more open environment. Iv said it before and ill say it again, look to inFamous 2 at how to do a brilliant free roaming superhero game.

infamous 2 was great but I don't think spidey would be able to work like that. I've decided I want good kombat (see what I did there) in a spider man game and the green goblin thats what I'm missing.

...What?

inFamous is the PERFECT example as to how to do a free roam superhero game.

inFamous would be a great template. Obviously you cant cut and paste, but inFamous took a free roaming environment, put a superhero into the middle of it and was able to tell a cool story around that individual and setting.

They just keep spitting these things out.

That sexual innuendo in the video was actually quite funny.

"Be honest...was I good?"
"Yeah, you were great. Better than the original."

Not average?
You must be the only one here less excited than me about this game

Not just you two...

Doubt that...we're talking about Activision for one thing...they're like Sony or FOX.

WHAT???? How can you NOT enjoy swinging through New York when you're freaking Spider-Man?

New interview with Katie Sackhoff (Black Cat 2099):

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gc-11-spider-man-edge/719224

So I was right about those blue-haired chicks being clones of Black Cat....and BC 2099 is even a clone herself, hrm...more proof that this has nothing to do with SD since Black Cat was shown in a holographic picture in the 2099 level.

Now....let's see a new villain

Indeed. Free roam = Spidey. Simple as that.

S-M2 proved it, IMO.

the next spidey should be free roaming but it needs to be done right. Most of the other free roaming games are lifeless. I never thought Spider-Man 2 was a great game and I don't see why everyone else does. It's incredibly lifeless and boring. I'd say Ultimate Spider-Man proved that you can do a free roaming game and make it interesting and fun for many hours.

There has never been a mission that requires you to "swing around for five min." before allowing you to progress.

I'm talking about to get to the next spot to progress. I was swing around in wos for five min. one time so I could start the next part of the game.

So what you're saying is, you'd rather have a game where everything is essentially set out for you? Extremely linear? No thanks.

WoS was heading in the right direction, but for some reason never made it there. No more SD or EoT style games. Spider-Man belongs outdoors, in New York... swinging ABOUT. :funny:

for a guy how liked the first spider man films you seem to be bushing sony the people who made them

Hrm...???? Activision is like Sony when trying to ruin something that's good. Sony ruined Spider-Man 3 and destroyed the chance for a Spider-Man 4. In a way, Activision is just like them because they'll never give Beenox full control.

when I want to play a game I want to play a game not swing around for five min. trying to move to the next part.

When I'm playing as Spidey, I look forward to swinging around and can't wait until I can do that again. Shoot, when I had WoS I spent nearly half a hour just swinging from building to building.

And...it NEVER took five minutes to get to "the next part", lol.

yeah And if you want to swing around I'll go play wos witch I own. maybe they should make a linear game with a free roam option. then everybody wins.

If they can do it with a ps1 game then they can do it with a ps3 or xbox 360 game.

I agree, freeroam and Spidey go hand in hand. If they could fix those camera issues that plagued the previous and refine the combat along with a great story, pssssh you got yourself a badass Spidey game :cwink:

They just need to have it set in a free roam area, but for certain battles they should focus on a single area. Like say you had to fight the Lizard at the Bronx zoo or something. You could progress through the area in a linear fashion, then once the mission is complete you are put back into a free roaming environment,

that's how i see it. Though... i also wouldn't mind the ability to enter the "zoo" again on your own.. like maybe if you enter the front gate of the zoo, you get a load screen to take you inside. (like most indoor/sewer missions)
