Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

Settle down Krypton, these are comic book forums. We’re meant to have fun

Anyway, the original point came from the initial deal between Sony and Disney

http://collider.com/spider-man-marvel-sony-deal-explained/#mcu
alleging that marvel would help reboot spidey and then Sony would take it from there. They still own the character really. Marvel never bought him off them. That’s all

Maybe lead with that then. Forums are also about communication.

To that end...

While they have a five picture "deal" with Sony both sides are making bank off this deal. Given the shape Sony is in now it wouldn't behoove them to not renew in some fashion especially given the response to Holland as Peter in every outing as the character so far.

And I need to clarify this... Marvel as an entity, including MARVEL studios and a Marvel Comics etc. OWN Spider-Man. Sony has the film rights to Spider-Man. They do not own Spider-Man. People throw this around a lot without specifying.

Guys, guys...

First of all, FAR FROM HOME is NOT a double meaning referring to Spidey's rights lol. Please. C'mon. Seriously.

Secondly, as the deal does finish with FAR FROM HOME, I'm positive renegotiations will take place either during production or post on this film. Feige and Holland have both mentioned a third film (Feige has said a couple of times, I think) so that means they do have at least a trilogy set up/in mind. KF is such a smart guy, I have no doubt he'll get done what needs to be.

Well, technically that would make it a triple meaning :oldrazz:

I think it also depends on when Sony and Marvel Studios are planning to release the third film. If they're looking at 2021 (standard two years apart), I'd say renegotiations would indeed take place during post-pro. If a 2022 release date, it could be later.

Could also keep in mind that KF and Marvel Studios might want to use Spidey in other "Phase 4" films. And a renegotiation would have to take place in order for those films to move into pre-pro, etc.

Yeah, I never got the impression the title has multiple meanings referring to the film rights. It's implying the film takes place outside of New York for a change, nothing more.

Sony is off and running with their own universe :whatever:...they're gonna need Spider-Man back at some point...

If Venom and Morbius and Silk are really successful, I could see Sony trying to go back to doing their own thing again.

See I'm of the mind that if Venom, Morbius, and Black Cat and Silver Sable are successful without Spider-Man, Sony may be perfectly content with keeping up the little spinoff universe they've created while they continue reaping the rewards from letting Spidey play off in the MCU sandbox.

I'm not stressed about it in the least.

It looks like Sony has scrapped the Black Cat and Silver Sable movie in favor of Silk, but I agree.

Sure but when push comes to the shove, what it really boils down to is, will Kevin Feige allow his MCU property to show up in another cinematic universe? Doing so makes the Sony universe the MCU universe. I truly think that’s a huge red flag on KF’s radar and he’ll work something out to prevent it or fix it.

That’s a good mentality. Me neither.

And they won't be lol

Unless the film is a complete disaster, I expect Venom to do reasonably well. Not the surprise BO juggernaut that Deadpool was perhaps, but strong enough that Sony will be pleased with the results. I do think that character is popular enough with average moviegoers to make a splash.

Morbius, on the other hand, will crash and burn. I mean just look at the list:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/chart/?id=vampire.htm

Five of the ten highest grossing vampire movies of all time are the Twilight films. Then you've got the two Hotel Transylvania movies, which are kids movies. You've got the awful Van Helsing movie from 2004 at #8, and then rounding out the top 10 are two movies from the early 90's that were based on best-selling books. Even with significantly smaller budgets compared to the typical superhero movies nowadays, the box office totals for these films aren't exactly encouraging. This is a particularly tough sub-genre to break out in.

The article says it's interior stuff. Still cool to hear they're starting soon.

More info from Atlanta Filming.

Cast list seemingly includes Gwyneth Paltrow but no RDJ.

I wonder why that character would be in it..

I wonder if the Marvel/Sony deal forbids Marvel from using certain elements from the Spider-Man mythos like Mary Jane (hence why the didn't mention her name in HC), the Daily Bugle, etc...?

No. Marvel just wanted to be "fresh" and "different"

I was just watching Civil War and it came to my mind that what if Mysterio uses BARF technology (the scene where we see young Tony Stark) to remind Spider-man of his traumatic experiences....you can make it as though Mysterio found it in the rummage left by Vulture when they were moving Tony Stark's stuff...it would be a nice callback to civil war and homecoming

I dont think they should go the scavenger route with Mysterio. It worked for Vulture but I think Mysterio should be something entirely different. It would be kinda lame if all of Spidey's villains in the MCU were coming from the same place: Avengers. One of the things I didn't like TASM was how all of the villains kept coming from Oscorp.

I'm not sure what to make of the news of
Pepper
showing up but I really hope this movie is more self-contained and standalone than Homecoming was with no Iron Man elements. I really want to know more about Michelle, Flash and Ned. I want to get to know this version of Aunt May better, give her a character arc of having to deal with Peter being Spider-Man. Spend more time fleshing these awesome characters out than telling us whatever Iron Man is up to.

Skyler Shuler @Skylerhxc
I wonder who will be play Jessica Drew in SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME? ;)

Skyler Shuler @Skylerhxc
Yes, Jessica Drew will appear in the film, she’s an MI-6 operative.

Skyler Shuler @Skylerhxc
This is my little scoop.
^ Very interesting.

Anyone remember this?

I don't buy it. Either the plot or the scooper.

Edit; Apparently that guy works for the Hashtag show and they've been pretty spot on these last few months. Meh, that plot doesn't sound that appealing to me. Was hoping for something more standalone

Yeah this leak is looking pretty real right now. I thought about it the second Atlanta Filming said Gwyneth Paltrow is in it but not Robert Downey Jr.

Anyone else think the employer is Doc Ock? At first I thought of Norman but if they're setting up the Sinister Six it has to be Ock right?

Also...sigh....more Iron Man influence....ok.

I kinda like the idea of Ock as more of a wacky/eccentric genius-level employee to some rich benefactor, rather than running his own big operation Osborn-style. Hopefully it's not Ock.

That being said, not so sure they'd introduce Norman just yet either. Any other potential options?

Curious as to that "Stark's creation" Mysterio supposedly steals (if the leak's legit, who knows), too. Really hoping he's not amassing majorly-dangerous tech and devices for some larger power-grab scheme here, it's way too similar to Vulture's arms-dealer schtick last time. Mysterio shouldn't really have huge ambitious plans anyway, just keep him purely in it for the thrill of messing with people and making some dough along the way.

Its definitely Ock. They're setting up the Sinister Six and Ock Is integral. They're essentially doing an adaptation of the Master Planner arc. The mysterious man putting together all of these villains
