Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

Only thing I'm not a fan of is that Fury recruits Spidey and Mysterio. Sounds like an unnecessary plot element added for the sake of it.

Wait, how do we know this? I must've missed something.

The trailer kicks off with what sounds like quite a cute exchange between Peter and Aunt May as we learn that she's supportive of his actions as Spider-Man.

However, things take a rather unexpected turn when Happy Hogan turns up and it instantly becomes clear that he's now romantically involved with the wall-crawler's aunt. See, while we all expected Tony Stark of wanting to get up to no good with her, it was Happy we should have been keeping an eye on!

Thanks! That wasn't in the other trailer descriptions that I read.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of it, either. What was even the point of having May discover his secret if they're not going to do anything interesting with it.

Elemental villain and a Europe trip make me think......

That makes no freaking sense? Also, the Happy / May thing is coming out of nowhere. Did those two ever meet in the first movie?

I don't mind May and Happy together at all tbh, it's a nice change to have May with someone else in a movie for once.

Not if it's introduced out of nowhere, but that's just what I think.

How come there's not a *single* leaked image from the trailer, with the amount of people that was in that stage?

Not in the ones I read either; neitherless, I'm with you on the payoff...what was the point in the ending of HC & Pete being afraid to let her know, if they just going to wssh over it. That would be a missed opportunity on the writers part & make little sense, imo.

No one ever thought Tony would be interested in May, with his strong feelings for Pepper. That's a red flag for me.....

Well because anything more wouldn't be funny.

Civil war gave off the impression Pepper and Tony broke up. so its possible originally they thought about getting Tony with May together but changed their mind by the time homecoming came along when they just seemed to be back together again..

It’s fine to not to dwell on her “finding out”. Time has passed... no need to show the aftermath for something we can assume. It’ll be nice to have Aunt May in on it, in film. Brings a new dynamic.

I look on some other sights and I just don't get so many people up in arms about Aunt May dating... Geriatric 616 dated in the comics. A LOT! She nearly married Doc Ock, for crying out loud! Why in the world would anyone expect a much younger, attractive May not to start dating again?

Anyway, I like the sound of the description. I really hope the female agent is still a thing, though.

EX-FREAKING-ACTLY. They don't even need to go into that much detail about how May and Happy met, they can just explain it with throwaway dialogue. Or, they literally just meet and flirt a few times. Really, it isn't a big deal.

Hey, in her defense there, Ock really wanted that island.

But to settle for business as usual with a slight twist and not see the dramatic fallout of that reveal is such a missed opportunity. The weight that had in the JMS/JRJR comics, or the Ultimate comics where she found out are some really strong moments for both Aunt May and Peter. The JMS/JRJR one in particular just hits you with the real emotions and strength Aunt May has to have. It just feels lazy to me to brush that aside and not want to do any of it (maybe they will, I'd like to see some meaty character moments but I really doubt it with these versions honestly).

I think I read that was something Kevin Feige wanted to put on screen for ages, Aunt May finding out. So they got it in there as the final bit in Homecoming. That's great, but it'd suck if they don't deal with the repercussions of that and left it as something that was played for laughs.

Ex-freaking-actly! :o This could've provided some great drama. Now it looks it's gonna be dealt with in 5 minutes so we can make room for "oh no, Aunt May is dating my mentor's male secretary!" :lmao:

This. So much this.

We have never seen a moment like this in the majority of Spider-Man media, particularly the live-action movies. Spider-Man 2 sort of hinted that she knew Peter was Spider-Man, but when SM3 came around, they did nothing with that plotline.

To cast aside a potentially great scene between the two of them discussing this and maybe even bringing up Ben, is to forget a big core of the character. Yes, Spider-Man is meant to be quippy and such, but it's not the only reason the character has so many fans worldwide.

I wouldn't mind however, see her chastise him for not sharing such an important fact with her; and, see his response.

I do think they have to build on the Aunt May knows angle. To not build off that is a wasted opportunity.
