Why is it that I cringe everytime someone puts VENOM alongside Doc Ock and Green Goblin as Spider-Man's greatest villains--when it should be THE LIZARD? Whom I want to see 20 times more than Venom on screen! So it certainly is your opinion.

I don't see any Emo kids running around in Lizard T-shirts like they do with Venom. You can't deny he's popular. Just look at all the treads dedicated to the character (which is wearing me out by the way). But just cause Lizard is a classic villian doesn't mean he's necessarily "better". I know he's your ideal choice for the next one on screen but he's your basic Jekyl/Hyde villian that we've seen before in Green Goblin.

He's the dang lethal enforcer. No wait, that was some arcade where you shoot bank robbers. Anyway, Venom looks cool. I'm not even a big Venom fan and definently not a supporter of him being in Spiderman 3 and I've bought like five Venom toys in my life, about as many as I have of Spiderman. So the word is out, Venom looks cool and therefore he is exciteing.

I don't like reboots much at all. I am of the mind of most origin films will be similar in most aspects, so why bother redoing it? I say just make movies where the characters are established facts, and be clear they have no connection to previous films. Why I don't want another Superman origin movie ever. Why no more Batman origin movies are required. Also, why I hope they avoid this in the Spider-Man series. I am already annoyed we are covering the Hulk's origin again.

Only origin I think needs to be completely redone is the FF (mostly for Dr. Doom. But, that is because they got him SO wrong).

They definitely shouldn't start over. The next film, even with a new cast, should go on as if nothing has actually changed. They shouldn't do anything that blatantly contradicts the first three films but not worry about fudging it a bit. Raimi has done a brilliant job with the Spidey trilogy. He can now move on to other things with his head held high.

Spider-Man 3 wrapped up most of the loose ends (Harry's subplot, Peter's guilt over his uncle's death, etc.) and ended the Peter/MJ romance on enough of an ambiguous note that the next film could either keep them together or split them apart. Plus, you've got Gwen and Captain Stacy as established characters for the next film to play around with.

A reboot would just be a waste of time. Nobody wants to see the origin story again (at least not so soon), nobody wants to see Spidey fight the same villains again, and nobody wants to see all of the growth and progress made in Raimi's trilogy completely wiped out. SM4 already has enough of a clean slate to work with; starting from scratch would be pointless, redundant, and just flat-out unnecessary.

But it's not like X men 3 where they pretty much made a direct sequel more or less impossible, hence why now we're getting lame "spin-offs".

and I don't think we will ever see another Spider man orgin movie. At least not for a very long time. The only reason Batman Begins was an orgin movie was because Batman 89 wasn't and there had never been one before. Aslo Spider man's origin is so clear cut and specific that it would be hard to ever really do it differently.

A reboot would be a horrible idea because Spider-Man 3 wasn't that long ago, for a reboot, you need a while. Batman and Robin was like 1997, and godawful, Begins was 2005, so almost 10 years. They'd have to wait until about 2015 for a Spider-Man reboot.


The only reboot I could see would be Superman because the first was just one film that wasn't all that great, sort of like Hulk.


Sure, Spider-Man 3 grossed huge, but that's not at all a reflection on the quality of the film, just the anticipation, you advertise Venom and market it real well, and you'll get a high grossing film, especially since the first two Spider-Man movies were taken so well. But the fact is, the movie didn't deliver, but I don't see why they can't make a good 4th film.

With different actors and director, it would be different, but you wouldn't need a total reboot, just a loose sequel.



It's not like you couldn't cast Jake Gyllenhal as Spidey, I used to get him and Toby mixed up anyways, plus it'd be cool with all the people on Dark Knight who have/had connections with him.

Sony/Marvel is not rebooting a 2.4 Billion dollar franchise. Hiring a different director, two main leads, and writer (already happened) may happen to inject some new blood and a different direction into the films. But rebooting makes no sense to studios (Sony/Marvel) of a 2.4 Billion dollar franchise, regardless of what you did or didn't like.

I would prefer a reboot in 6 years over a Spider-Man 4 with a different cast. Spider-Man 4 would follow the storyline that was left off in Spider-Man 3 ... It would maim consistency with new actors. Whether people want to admit it or not, I think that Kirsten Dunst was 100% correct when she said that a sequel without the original cast would not do well.

Did you see the end to Spider-Man 3? Peter and Mary Jane's relationship was totally left in the air. I need more closure than that.

What about Dr. Connors? The Stacys? It would suck if a reboot happened without having to go anywhere interesting with these characters in the current series of films.

I would love to see these things go somewhere in the fourth movie with the same characters and the same cast.

You can sequel anything with an imagination. An X4 would not be that hard to do storywise. Heck, I have a story idea for an X4 that would be a direct sequel to X3. However, an X4 would either require a whole new cast or getting all those actors together again, which is the difficult part of X4. The story is not why X-Men is getting spin-offs, the cost and difficulty in bringing in that large of a cast is.

This franchise needs 2 new things:

1. totally new cast
2. dont make it as kiddie (yes, I know you think that's your main audience, but the original StarWars movies didn't pander to kids and the kids still loved it. R2D2 and C3PO were just funny - not dumbed down for kids as in the last 3 movies)

A reboot can do these two things - while keeping the same backstory.

^I agree with both somewhat, but keeping the backstory, meaning, keeping everything that happen in the previous movies doesn't make it a reboot. It makes it another sequel, exactly what it should be, even with two new lead actors.

And I want Spidey to have knowledge of GG, Norman Osborn, Doc Ock, Sandy, Venom, Harry/Goblin, etc. I personally don't want to see a SM4, with Spidey not knowing his encounters with these characters.

But the part about making a much more adult-oriented movie and not pandering to kids...IS A MUST.
