Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

I am all for making MJ less of a damsel and capable of doing things herself. Sometimes she did get a little too in over her head and I think ultimately it really risked lives around her too. I get what they were trying to do. It is a bit aggravating for her to get so upset at Peter for being a bit worried. Who wouldn't worry? He loves her. I wish she came to an arc at the end where she discussed it with him and came to an understanding. Like "MJ, I do trust you and love you and I admire what you do but you have to understand how I would get worried. I deal with this stuff and I almost die and I have super abilities."

She took it way too insulting sometimes. Like her going to Tombstone's lair was a bit much. Or even what she did in the Black Cat DLC.

The Grand Central level was the only MJ level I thought was really, really well done.

I like her in this game, but sometimes she just came off the wrong way.

The Miles stuff was all crap aside from the Rhino mission. I don't care about him at all and some of the missions, like sneaking by the guard checkpoint on the way to Feast, were stupid and filler. I dread his missions on replays and wish I could skip them. I would rather he just not have been in the game and maybe replace his missions with Yuri ones at the very most. The idea of him being Spider-Man makes me cringe hard and a bit less excited for a sequel where I am sure we will be forced to play as him. I love this game and appreciate what Insomniac did but pulling Miles in, who I don't care about at all from the comics, was a bit of a low point in the game for me. I don't hate him and can sympathize with him a bit, but that doesn't make the addition of him worth it. Also that phone call with him in the Heist DLC was so bad and cringey.

I just hope they are not going to keep increasing Spidey's reliance on MJ. It already feels like this DLC is slightly suffering from the CW syndrome, with the main protagonist being too inept to do his job, so he has to rely on his supporting cast to come up solutions, ideas and plans.

For example, why did Spidey have to rely on MJ to find information on the thumb drive hidden in the painting? She is going to investigate, while Spidey is basically twiddling his thumbs, until he hears from MJ again. Instead of finding one of the Hammerhead thugs himself to interrogate. Isn't this Spidey supposed to be experienced? You'd think after 8 years on the job, he'd know how to get information out of criminals. Heck, the first step could have been to locate where Hammerhead hangs out nowadays and instead of an MJ sneak Mission, it could have been be a Spidey sneak mission, as we go through Hammerhead's office and computer, to find out what Hammerhead is looking for.

Also, wouldn't it be highly suspicious and put her in danger, when MJ starts to ask people about thumb drives she should have no knowledge of? I didn't care much for MJ in the main game, but in the DLC it feels like they really had to crowbar her in.

It's exactly how Slott wrote Spider-Man...inept, incapable of doing things on his own and ridiculed by those around him. He was basically spineless. So yes, they need to avoid this crap. It's part of the reason why I'm against having more Spider people. It takes away from what makes Peter special.

Just learned who the face model for Mary Jane's design is, and it seems like Mary Jane got the Sara Ryder treatment, where the gameplay model is purposely made less attractive than the person they're based on.

To be fair, the more realistic they try to make the characters and keep insisting on motion capture, the more uncanny valley sets in.

Maybe my standards are low but I think MJ is pretty in this game.

The game is pretty slow until the Sinister 6 breaks out. I wish we had gotten more interaction with the villains besides just the boss fights. Similar to how we fought Shocker twice, would have been nice to fight Scorpion 1 on 1 before the team-ups.

I totally agree. We could have fought most of the Sinister six individually before they team up at the end.

I was so disappointed with how easy and formulaic it was to fight Scorpion. Considering that he's as strong and fast as Spider-man, and able to climb walls, this could of been an amazing boss fight that spanned across the city.

My favorite boss fight in the game is probably Task Master, because it isn't a simple repeating pattern of dodging and attacking. He is unpredictable, and able to dodge and defend against you. You can fight him on top of buildings or on the street. If you run, he chases you across roof tops.

Really? I thought Taskmaster was boring. You just have to wait to do a perfect dodge and then go all in.

I still liked the Electro/Vulture fight the best. Felt cinematic and somewhat more open world.

Worst fight was the second Mr. Negative fight.

Yeah, but Task Master didn't have a repeating cycle where you just wait for him to become vulnerable. I made the fight more entertaining by taking it to different locations. He actually bet me on ultimate difficulty, whereas vulture and electro were never a challenge.

I liked the Mister Negative fights when you aren't in a hallucination.

I didn’t realize you could leave the rooftop on the Taskmaster fight. Will have to try that. Might be cool to fight on top of Avengers tower.

Yeah, I pulled him to the Time Square to get some good screenshots. :D

*Edit*

Oh, and unfortunately you can't draw him to the top of Avengers Towers. I tried. :(

I wish I would've known you didn't have to fight him in one spot. The roof I first faced him in was too small to move around.

So I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this or not, but I tracked down the firehouse they used for Ghostbusters, and on the back of the building is a graffiti ghost. Thought that was pretty cool. Wonder how many other nods there are in there? Something from TMNT maybe?

I agree. I thought the Mister Negative boss fight was a lot more challenging than facing Doc Ock for the finale. I really enjoyed the story of the game - generally not a fan of Miles Morales, but I think the game did a decent job of introducing him as a protégé of Peter - but the closing stages of the game felt rushed.

I actually did the exact same thing. I wasn't planning on it but I ended up in Times Square. It made for a great fight on the street with a big crowd standing around...felt like a movie scene. When I play NG+ I'll have to remember to take some screenshots.

I've heard about that but I haven't got mine yet. Then again I just got the platinum trophy like a week ago. And I also heard that it's only for players that are in the USA.

They relied on the "sneaking around and not get caught" one time too many between MJ and Miles.

I definitely agree with this. Miles escaping from Rhino and MJ's mission at the museum should have been the only ones.

I played some Spidey last night for a bit for the first time in about a week taking a break from RDR2. Still a lot of fun. I'll probably start NG+ here pretty soon. But I think I may wait until all the planned DLC releases before playing them. RDR2 is my main focus right now.

But I'm curious...forgetting about the Heist as a whole, specifically what did everyone think about Felicia Hardy's characterization?

Really liked Felicia a lot. No complaints from me. I even like the suit. She was a really fun character and just highlighted how wrong they got MJ. Because whenever MJ is around, there is no fun to be had. It's basically Peter being timid around her and apologizing for every little thing.

I known I am late to playing the DLC didn't have time to play any of the DLC un till a few hours ago but I am just wondering am I the only one that had a lot of bugs in the dlc? I have put about 2 hours into the DLC so far and I had 1 time where I was getting no picture after the game loaded and had to close the game out to the ps4 menu and than load the game up again. I had 1 time the part when you like have to chase black cat and she is using some kind of electrisicity thing one you where when it loaded on was like upside down in the air and couldn't see what was going on and than a second later she had gotten away. On that same part I also had a time where it took a long time to load and I didn't even see her like show up just saw I had to catch up to her when it loaded. I think I have already seen like 6 bad bugs in the dlc. Also the part when you get the pizza I never got to see spiderman eat the pizza or heard it before the visule of the game came back up. Also in general it seems like there are a lot more load screens and lot longer load screens in the dlc than in the main game. Disappointing that the dlc seems to be so much more buggy than the main game hope the 2nd dlc is a lot less buggy.

What if... just what if,
in Spider-Man 3, Doc Ock's body has completely deteriorated. Knowing Peter's secret and as revenge vs Norman, he takes Harry (after the Devil's Breath Symbiote leaves him for Peter, then Brock), reconstructs Harry's limbs, shoves a mind/muscle control device on his head that Ock can control the same way he controlled his arms from his own headset, and calls him the Superior Spider-Man? Harry would constantly fight Ock's control, same way Peter did in the comics. That would be a more believable way to do the Superior storyline.

I had the same thought. Apparently...

Insomniac have said that they won't include the Superior Spider-man suit in this game, because they 'feel it deserves its own story.'

I'm happy to hear this. I've been reading comments around the net that praise how Felicia is portrayed in this game and so I was curious to see what my fellow hypers had to say. She's my favorite supporting character and I was a bit worried they'd do her injustice like they did MJ. I'm not sure why so many writers have issues with classic MJ. But anyway, I'm excited to play The Heist. The one thing I've heard though that I hope Insomniac will change thru more story is for Peter and Felicia to become friends. I often see her portrayed as a femme fatale that takes advantage of Peter. Which is ok in the beginning but imo this should evolve.

I've not played the DLC yet but from what I've read, you're not alone in this. There's been a bunch of users around the net complaining of all sorts of technical issues. I don't know how much this might help but I've heard that setting the time of day to night before starting the Heist does seem to help with some of these issues.

I may just be the only one but I found the Superior Spider-Man comic to be underwhelming. And that's me being nice about it. I really hope they steer clear of that story. However, part of the reason I did not like that story is because of how both Peter and Otto were written. So far in Spider-Man PS4 both characters are much better than what's presented in Superior. That at least would give me a sense of hope should Insomniac attempt to tackle that storyline.

I liked Felicia. No complaints.

Nice. Considering how harsh you are on the game's version of MJ, and rightly so, to hear you say this about Felicia is encouraging. Though I'm not sure where she ranks in your list of importance, it's still good to see positive remarks about her.

Mary Jane is a whiner in this game just like how she was in Spider-Man 3. It makes her unlikable and makes Peter more sympathetic.

She also looks like Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man 2, the least attractive she has looked in the trilogy, but still quite attractive nonetheless.

I didn’t have a problem with this characterization of MJ per se. I get why they did it to give her a more active role than just girlfriend. I just wish they only did one or two side missions with her.

Bought the game, the prequel novel and the art book last week. Been playing on friendly (yeah I know lol) because honestly I’m not as good of a gamer like I used to be and also I’m starting a new job so I want to finish the main storyline before I start training for the job. I’m loving it so far though.
